Can I cry now?
Did you reply to him/her and let them know it wasn't a farm? Also, instead of sadness you should try anger and rage.

Sounds like a successful troll to me.
Side note, I think it's amusing that the chat log makes it look like the Family has just taken out a hit on your detractor.

It's a shame and hopefully the devs have something in mind to restore balance/purpose/meaning to the ratings system. As it is now, the odds of you bouncing back from that single one is very, very low since it would take seven five stars to bring the average back up to just a 4.5. You are not alone, I've gotten many 1 stars in the last few months including a double hit to a 5 star arc that dropped to 4 and has not gotten a play since.
Besides the unbalanced weighting of the stars you have the social aspect to factor in. Many people will rate a story arc based on how good they feel it was (which is how the system should work after all) and these ratings are totally different from one person to the next. One the other hand, people that play farms generally either don't rate or give a 5 as a "reward". This has pushed story arcs further and further away from the top of the default search and it's getting worse everyday. There are now five HoF farms with number six like 50 plays away last I checked. These were all granted in the last couple of months. In comparison, there only eight story arcs in HoF total since 4/09 and those ALL come from the first week or so from MA launch. I'm certain the system is not working as originally envisioned or intended.

Check out one of my most recent arcs:
457506 - A Very Special Episode - An abandoned TV, a missing kid's TV show host and more
416951 - The Ms. Manners Task Force - More wacky villains, Wannabes. things in poor taste
or one of my other arcs including two 2010 Player's Choice Winners and an2009 Official AE Awards Nominee for Best Original Story
Didn't know which of your arcs were downgraded so I just 5 starred them all.
Mind if I join you, because I got a 1 star rating and this feedback this morning:
"Message From @******* : Feedback on Architect Mission The New Paragon Society Reborn: Really Bad XP compared to other farms"
What a wonderful investment of time it was fixing and updating my arc.

Personally, I'd PM each and every screenshot of those to, oh, Positron and Aeon. Then again, I don't get plays - mine are buried under so many farms (live and dead) and so old they'll never see the light of day again. Seriously, farms should never be in the HoF. I'm just waiting for one to become DC.
Admittedly my cynical and annoyed self doesn't expect them to get the point, since, well, AE isn't the new shiny any more, but still.

i think the only reason a farm would not become a DC would be that a dev has to make it so, and if they did that then players would go "oh the devs must love farming" and the problem would just get exponentially worse for AE

I mean, I look back at that pile of AE tutorials I wrote up for AE's launch and feel like I wasted my time after seeing farms in the HOF. And for people with actual arcs they put a lot of work into getting... what, zero plays, or seeing feedback like that?
... yeah.
I don't even bother to use the ratings system anymore, myself. At this point, if I enjoyed an arc, even if its something I would only want to play once it gets 5 stars. If I don't like it I don't rate it at all. Until they fix the ratings system, I look at giving an arc stars to not be giving it a rating but rather saying "good arc, here's some tickets for giving me some entertainment."

Arc #271637 - Welcome to M.A.G.I. - An alternative first story arc for magic origin heroes. At Hero Registration you heard the jokes about Azuria always losing things. When she loses the entire M.A.G.I. vault, you are chosen to find it.

Best. Feedback. Ever.
Highly amusing that there is a large contingent of people out there who think of the AE as a farm tool and only a farm tool. Never even crosses their minds that a story could perhaps be told or a challenge perhaps given with it.
BTW, if you don't like low ratings, don't make challenge arcs. Challenge arcs make just about everyone who plays AE angry or annoyed. Challenge arcs sit in the sweet spot for hate.

The lost potential for the AE ranks up there with bases, IMHO. They should take notes from the Foundry.

My arc is not even a challenge arc and I got the same feedback (same person?). Mine is clearly labeled as "Origin Story, Solo Friendly and Drama".

They should drop the player rating system and simply show number of plays (by different players).
edit: Yeah that would still leave the farms at the top of the list but at least trolls can't force normal missions down the list.

I haven't had that problem, although mine is literally called a challenge arc in the title, so its impossible for anyone to get the wrong idea.

Incidentally, searching the word "farm" with the "challenge" tag brings back 12 pages. Rolling up a Fire Armor brute, copying a build from the forums, filling your tray with purples and spamming Burn is HARD, people.

I'm sure the lack of enthusiasm among the player base for AE missions has nothing to do with the impossibly high standards some people set for AE missions early on, where actual story arcs were getting 2- and 3-starred for not being awesomely written enough, causing them to not get any plays (heck even 4-starring an arc was/is a death sentence in general) and thus not creating a positive feedback cycle where someone would want to continue sinking time into continually improving old and creating new AE mission content.

I tired one of the Hall of Fame Arcs yesterday and was very surprised to find it was just a complete farm with no effort what-so-ever of story etc. A lot of the text fields (including mob names) just had a single character, most often just "d".
Not having play around with MA for some time, this one arc (and the fact it somehow got to hall of fame status) put me off MA once again.
In future I think I think I just try the recommend Arcs mentioned here.

i feel most everyone either thinks the work that they did was a masterpiece then they got a bad rating and if feedback was left then the author would just arbitrarily 1 star other poeples arcs out of spite

Besides, I didn't see a rule on the AE building anywhere that stated that if you play an AE arc you must also write one. Also, nowhere is it stated that if you write an arc you will be good at it. Nor is it stated that other players will like the same stuff you do. Nor is it stated that the other people who may or may not like the same stuff you do, and who play your arc which may or may not be good, will be able or willing to offer constructive feedback on what they liked or did not like about your arc and how you can improve it. Nor is it stated that they are in any way obligated to do so.
Besides, I'm suspect a lot of the people who wanted everybody to 5-star their arc and heap it with glowing praise while offering constructive suggestions for how to improve weren't really doing much of the same for other people.

People can insist that they are just "using the rating system as it was intended to be used" and while I can't argue that, it doesn't change how the system actually works. We see this very clearly now looking at HoF and the first few pages of top rated arcs. Put another way, if I'm driving in my car at 25mph and hit my breaks to stop when I get to my destination and the brakes fail to work as intended, do I just step out of the car going 25mph or do I maybe take a different action?

Democracy is great except when people I don't like are the majority.
My arc is not a farm, it's a challenge arc, although it seems that the farm mentality got my arc a 1 star rating and pushed that far down the list. If you read my other thread, I try my best to get my arcs out there, and this is a stifling defeat for me.
