why are the servers down?

servers went down at 7am est with no notice on facebook or the forums....

i think a simple courtesy message somewhere regarding what is going on and when its going to be over, would cut down on questions like this .... just saying.....

I assume it's to turn off DXP but, yet again, it is some awful communication (or lack there of) from the dev/community side.

There were red texts in game, 2 hour 'daily maintenance' window.

I agree. I love nearly all aspects of this game, but the servers being down at odd times would be much more palatable if there was a dedicated "heads up" section to this forum.

And the server status portion of the official website is officially useless.

Server maintainance is Mondays and Thursdays 7am edt to 9am edt. Patches usually happen on Tuesdays.

I still remember when maintainance was everyday(Mon. to Fri.) 9am edt to 11am edt and patches were done after the Tuesday maintainance.

The servers go down twice every double xp weekend on Friday to turn on double xp and then on Mon to turn it off.

Unexpected downtimes occur unexpectedly. That's why they're called unexpected.

That and after the beating the servers took during DXP...

I saw all SORTS of screwy, anomalous behavior during the event.

Years of abuse by Microsoft Windows has given me a muscle memory response.

The announcement on Beta said "for maintenance."

But then again, if they had to take it down because Oberon, King of Avalon demanded it, they'd still say "for maintenance."

Maybe they're sad Double XP weekend is over.

and here it is tuesday morning and servers are going down again.....

still no explaination of yesterdays "maintenance"......

likely no explaination of todays either......

thats nice that the ski lodges are open... but we cant use them BECAUSE THE SERVERS ARE DOWN!!!!!!

on a side note.... i dont care about xp doubled or otherwise - i just want to play!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is there a place in these forums dedicated to server status/maintenance? If there is I can't find it. That would be nice for the customers, just a heads up on why it's down and how long we can expect to wait.

A dedicated status/maintenance forum would be fantastic. Notice I said dedicated, which means actually, y'know, used.

It's rather irritating that the servers came down unexpectedly a few times during double xp weekend, and then they came down post-weekend, and then again today.

Makes me twitchy because it reminds me of daily server maintenance crushing my playtime. But at least we expected that downtime, whereas this has all just been repeated 'oh hi, server coming down in 30 minutes' in-game messages out of nowhere.

One bonus, though, is I noticed the Server Status page is actually working again! There's no information about these downtimes actually posted, but, hey, it's showing actual server status again, at least!

Well I do agree that some idea of what is going on would be nice. I'd also like to know if it is doing the same tomorrow..

This time of day is always possible chance of maintance.
Offically its only thursday, but as said, patches and extra maint is often on tuesday.

Of late, when its been on tuesdays they had been running it a little later - which was really nice for those here in Aus - server maint at 10:30 pm is big difference to 8:30pm.

What really bugs me if that its the wrong URL on the launcher text. Thats most unfriendly. Either make http://www.cityofheroes.com/servers/index.html a redirect to the right page, or change the text box for the heroes program.
