Rise of the planet of the Apes
IMO, the many universes (or planes, whatever) theory, where all possibilities happen, is a theory that's in much the same boat. Outside of conjecture, is there any real evidence that any universe outside our own exist? Will I ever be able to peek into these other universes in any way? Will I ever observe their effects?

But I agree with Durakken in that we should be talking more about how awesome this movie was.

And if we can peek into those alternate realities will we eventually be able to cross over so we can dump our garbage and harvest their natural resources?
And if we can cross over will we be able to snatch our alternate selves from those realities so we can use them to harvest organs for transplants? Or use them as test subjects in medical experiments or for testing cosmetics so we can stop the mistreatment of innocent animals.
So, is this a thread about Fringe now? Because I really want to know what happened to Peter. (John Noble suggested that in the new continuity that Peter Mark 1 also died of the same disease that killed Peter Mark 0.)
I do agree that the original PotA film hit the high points as well as could be expected with their budget and filming schedule. Besides, you can't get more iconic than Taylor discovering Miss Liberty in the sand. That's a moment that deserved to be filmed no matter what film was wrapped around it.
Is it certain at this point that there will be a sequel to the new PotA film?
And if we can peek into these other universes will we be able to tape what is seen and broadcast it as uncensored reality TV shows?

The movie looks interesting to me right up to the point that I see apes with spears going into battle.
I had more then enough retro-romantic,noble savage nonsense with Avatar.
Please tell me they get a hold of guns in a freaking hurry, otherwise I do not give a damn.
Just saw it. Rather enjoyable. I had a little trouble getting passed the uncanny valley initially. Caesar kind of stuck out like a sore thumb while the other apes seemed to be more photorealistic.
I wish they had stuck with the prosthetics and make-up they used in Burton's film. I'm still amazed by what they were able to accomplish in that movie despite its stupid ending.
On another note, it seems visual effects and make up artistry seems to be going the way of the dodo and giving ground to CGI in a big way. I understand it may be more cost effective to do things this way but I feel something is lost when it's overdone. Take two Terry Gilliam films for example. The Adventures of Baron Munchausen and The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. Formulaically, similar films. The former movie was a lot easier for me to get lost in because nothing seemed like it was out of synch. I don't think technologically, we're at the point where CGI can propel a story alone when mixed with live actors unless done really really meticulously (i.e. Avatar).

The Alt Alphabet ~ OPC: Other People's Characters ~ Terrific Screenshots of Cool ~ Superhero Fiction
Apparently RotPotA -- hmm, rot-pottah, works for me -- is number one again this weekend.
That kind of surprises me, given how popular The Help is. The theatre I saw The Help in was packed, albeit mostly with older women, and at the end the audience spontaneously applauded. I haven't seen that happen since a sneak preview of E.T.: The Extraterrestrial... 29 years ago.
I think both Apes and Help will have legs, since they're getting good word of mouth. The Help is quite good, and some reviews that claim it sugar-coats segregation are writing nonsense in the hopes of being controversial.

Well The Help had a bestselling book behind it. That always helps.

An odd thought occurs. What if someone with the talents of Uwe Boll was to direct and produce several movies based on books that were showcased in Oprah's book club? I personally would find it hilarious.
