Unable to log in (8/4 after maint)
Check at the bottom of the server status page for when it was last updated.
For instance, mine says:

It's now 24min past the end of the scheduled maintenance for today and all the servers are showing UP in the server status window, but I'm still unable to log in. Is it just me? When attempting to I get the following error message:
The game client was unable to connect to the login server. This may be due to a local network issue such as a firewall block, or may be because the login server is down for maintenance. Please check your network settings and try again, or check http://www.cityofheroes.com/servers/index.html for current server status. Note that since I'm posting this and seeing the server status I'm not having connection issues and since I was just playing last night I have no firewall problems. Is anyone else having this problem? Thanks. |
I can't get on either...I guess they are having a hella long maintenance.
Wish there was someway of knowing when the servers come back up.

European Support (redname) just posted an announcement indicating maint was taking longer than expected and they had no ETA on completion. Server status page is obviously useless since the LUT is from freakin' June! Wow.
I guess we're just in a holding pattern.

Must...get....into....game!
Almost 10am and still unable to enter game. Thought it was launcher but after updating that it's still no go.
Did anyone get a patch update, or was this supposed to be a regular maintenance? Considering the shift to the NCSoft launcher only afterwards?

I am sure running a MMO is complicated, but it just seems they get stuck with lots of unexpected issues. Couldn't they hire more talented folks who might be able to get ahead of problems and expect stuff?

I don't have a problem with the maintenance taking longer then expected... but it would be nice to have the server status actually showing the real server status.
I am wondering what happened on my machine to cause me not being able to log in... the servers are up? Thanks to all of you for posting the question and finding the opportunity.
I guess I will get ready for a meeting and play afterwards.
I remember once upon a time the server page working..... What's up with why it doesn't any more? Or did they cut back on the help like many companies now days? Less people doing 2 times the work. It's nice that they are working on the game, but someone needs to tend to the website, too. lol

Servers may show up that are not, the script connects to the port the server listens on so it may not be fully up, but its far more accurate then the one on the CoH Site. |

Glad you posted this, I thought it was my 'puter. Sad to be nostalgic for the Server Status page actually displaying server status, isn't it?
There was a message one of the times I logged in yesterday saying that the CohUpdater was going to be turned off today. Probably causing more problems than expected.

Heh I just noticed the link they provide for the error message "The game client was unable to connect to the login server"... points to an invalid weblink.

Would be nice if they
1) fixed the error message so it reported the correct official page link
2) fixed the part of the code on the server_status page that reports incorrect Last Updates (bottom right), and
3) included the Login Server on the server_status page, like the sgspaces.net link does...

Maintenance is to last from 6am cdt through 2pm cdt..and then more maintenance from 6pm cdt through 8pm cdt. so basically all day for a lot of us...I say a partial refund is in order....
I get rid of people who continually get surprised doing their jobs.

As for the extended maintenance, it can cover a lot of ground: new hardware, replacing existing hardware, reboots, defrag, etc. A good network admin knows that any job can take longer than expected. You can try to plan as much in advance as possible, but you can't plan for the unexpected; it's just that, unexpected.
I find your lack of signature disturbing.
Maintenance is to last from 6am cdt through 2pm cdt..and then more maintenance from 6pm cdt through 8pm cdt. so basically all day for a lot of us...I say a partial refund is in order....

At $15 a month, and an average of 30 days in a month, comes to 50 cents a day. As this is less than a day's worth of downtime, would you like the 25 cents as a check, or just a quarter dropped in the mail?
