Green Lantern sequel in the works still!

Given how much it was panned (here and elsewhere) it's a little surprising, but I'm happy, I really enjoyed the first one!

More Details Here

Hopefully they can iron out the problems of the first one and make a better sequel, other films have done it

No surprise here. I expected a sequel.

I get some folks hated it, but I personally enjoyed the film. It seemed obvious to me it did well enough to justify a sequel.

Ugh. Based on what we saw before, they're probably just going to go ahead and make Sinestro the villain without giving his turn to the dark side its proper due. And with them losing money on the first one, they're gonna be even less likely to step up the action and space scenes, so, hooray more Blake Lively scenes.

I enjoyed the first and look forward to a sequel. I do hope that manage the pacing better this time, and are more careful about how much they try to shove into the story. GL could have been an appreciably better film if they didn't try to do so much.

Too many alts to list.

You missed it then, it was already extensively covered in the first film during the two minute period where he crafted the yellow ring following the plot point where it was absolutely unnecessary.

That said GL 2 might be an improvement.

She's pretty but her total enthusiasm didn't seem to be dedicated to the first movie, she was passively interested during some scenes.

I love Green Lantern and support a sequel.

To make it even better, I suggest new writers, a new director, and recasting the male and female leads.

Yeah, as much as I love Green Lantern as a character and as a franchise, that movie was a huge disappointment and I really cannot summon up much hope that the sequel will be any better and far more likely to be worse. I would love to be wrong though.

Ditto. Thought it was a lot better than critics made it out to be.

Speed Racer undoubtedly had its campy parts, but when it was awesome, it was really awesome. The Wachowskis sure as hell know how to develop a film's climax.

I'm mildly concerned by the assumption that they need to make the sequel "edgier and darker, with more focus on action." If by that they mean a solid chunk of the sequel will focus on a depowered Hal on the run through the streets of Korugar ducking Sinestro and trying to fight his way back to his power battery to recharge his ring, I can get behind that. But Green Lantern should not turn into "Batman with a power ring." They need to more fully embrace the fantastical elements of the character and the setting. The further the sequel stays away from Earth, the better, in my opinion.

While we're on the subject, who else wants to see Keira Knightly cast as Katma Tui?

Reported cost is $200 million. Current worldwide gross is $154 million. Little of that is outside the US. It will make money once it hits DVD, but that's not really much encouragement to do a sequel with. If it got a lot of positive word of mouth then they can build on that for the sequel. Since it was reviewed as mediocre and did underperform at the box office, that's tough to build off of. They'll need to drop at least $50 million off of the budget next time.

I wouldn't mind a sequal to Green Latern (or Speed Racer for that matter)! I liked it.

I think this is where they wise up, learn from their mistakes ont he first one, and do better. Not reboot it and try again.

Of course, they may not learn anything. By the sounds of it, they may think they need to turn GL into Green Latern the Dark Knight Rises. :/

Not so sure it needs to be darker. It just needs more action and more creations!

How about this: and the end of GL the movie we see Sinestro put the yellow ring on and he flips to the uniform of the sinestro corp/yellow lantern...... so for a sequel he is literally playing both sides of the street as it were in that he switches back to the green ring and still acts like a GL, but he has used the green ring to enforce his will on Korugar and pretty much taken over the planet. At the same time when he is not needed as a GL, he switches to the yellow ring, has learned how to make more yellow rings and is forming his own Corps.

Hal learns of this when he visits Korugar for more training with Sinestro, sends out a distress signal to the Corps and Guardians but must fight Sinestro ( who is still using the green ring at the moment as he keeps the yellow secret). Sinestro is beaten and captured by Hal, banished by the Guardians and then unleashes the Sinestro Corps to attack the GLC and Guardians.
