All but one of the costume features on that limited list are in the game. Masks, helmets, form-fitting clothing, symbols on the chest, capes, the costumes of various professions/sub-cultures, civilan/military garb, and 'underpants worn on the outside' are all there.

Every post I make? I don't think I've had enough open discourse with anyone in this thread for such a conclusion to be made. I tend to be very blunt when I write posts. It's not intended to be rude, just quick and to the point. Apologies if I've ruffled any feathers, genuinely wasn't my intention.

Continuing with this side tangent...
One tights/spandex comicbook staple area that could really use some love is the masks (both for full masks and masks with hair, really).
Full masks hasn't gotten new stuff since... when?
We could use some mask eye types stuff, instead of having to use goggles and whatever else we can use to fudge it!
Just saying, there definitely are some things that could (should... need??) to be covered still!
Hopefully, now that they're not worried about having to lump everything into a big pack, we might start to see such things trickle into the game.
Oh, and just some tights with different texture (like it is different types of fabric) would still be plenty useful.
And more patterns is always a good thing.
Vines and ulterior may have been a little poorly received, but that was mostly because people were more disappointed in not getting fancy new sets like we'd started getting in boosters.
Those patterns (and the Ulterior textures themselves) do get used though!
More is better!

Yeah I know. And I'd love a MMORPG where the majority of the superheroes/supervillains you face wear that type of stuff.

If most of my enemies dressed up like 1960s costumed villains, this game wouldn't be nearly as interesting.
The forums DO lack an ignore button, but not an ignore function. To ignore someone, got to your User CP then choose "Edit Ignore List" under Settings and Options. Once there, add the name of the person you wish to ignore to the "Add a Member to Your List..." field. For ease of use, it's usually best to copy the person's name right out of the forums and paste it in that field. Enter the name there, hit OK and you will never see this person's posts ever again. Until someone quotes them, which for people deserving of ignore is usually all too common.

Haha, and yes, while I love me some tights and spandex old school super hero/villain comicbook stuff in the game (which we have!), I also love the game's diversity and would never want to see it overrun by any particular direction!

And indeed, thinking back on it, with Soldiers of Arachnos, the one feature from the list I thought was missing from the character creator isn't completely absent.

I've never heard of you or spoken to you and yet you are waxing opinions about me.
Strange.
Actually, that list goes beyond 60s men-in-tights and most superheroes/villains in the game could probably be said to exhibit the features on it. As could most of the fodder, for that matter.

City of Heroes is a game about freedom of expression and variety of experiences far more so than it is about representing any one theme, topic or genre.

Let's say that in September you get your 51 month badge and then FREEDOM go Live. The Tokens you receive from the Vet System are:
N/3 + N/12 = 17 + 4 = 21. Sept thru July is 10 months for 10 Tokens, and let's throw in a Yearly Token for 11. Being subscribed July through September will not only earn you 1,200 in Paragon Points, you'll also get 3 Tokens. At least, I think you do. That's 35 Tokens. It only takes 34 Tokens to fill Tier 8. That leaves you 1 Token to spend on one of the Three Tier 9 VIP costume blocks. You can wait two more months to get the other two, or, you can add 2 more months to your subscription, or, you can purchase 2,400 Points and get the 2 Tokens that come with it. |
- The first block/tier is free. So, it takes 33 Tokens to fill up Tier 8 and advance to Tier9/Tier9Vip status.
- Though we're geting *Points* starting in July, we're not getting monthly *Tokens* until after FREEDOM goes live.
- I made the mistake of counting future Tokens twice when I said 'wait 2 more months.'
So, recalculate:
Let's say that in September you get your 51 month badge and then FREEDOM go Live. The Tokens you receive from the Vet System are:
N/3 + N/12 = 17 + 4 = 21.
Then for the time you purchased in advance (Sept thru July) is 10 months for 10 Tokens, and let's throw in a Yearly Token for 11.
That's 32 Tokens. It only takes 33 Tokens to fill Tier 8. To fill out Tier8 and buy the 3 Tier9Vip blocks, you need 4 more Tokens.
If you purchase more subscribed time in advance, you'll get a Token per month. So, you can pre-purchase 4 more months of sub time and have it all for about $60.
OR... you can get the 4 Tokens by buying 4,800 Points for $60.
The first method gives you more sub time. The second method gives you more in-game purchasing power.
Whichever way you go, it's very much worth it to fill up the 8th Tier with at least one more purchased Token, because then you start getting a 550 per month stipend rather than 400/month.

What I mean is I enjoy City of Heroes because in this game, really any thematic is appropriate. Comic Books aside, heroes can fight crime in tailored suits, casual street clothes, anime armour, alien carapace, their underwear, pirate getups, ninja costumes, robot forms, animal forms, monster forms and more. That no one aesthetic reigns supreme over all others is something I consider to be a huge perk of the game. For this reason, whenever I see allusions that "classic" super heroes are somehow "better" and the game suffers for not having most be like this, it just bugs me.

You are playing a game about superheroes. I'm not saying you have to dress up in spandex and a cape, but that's what should take precedent in my opinion.
As to the person who said the system can't handle asymmetry, I don't believe we need the crazy asymmetry they have over in CO (Though something like that would be great), but asymmetrical patterns seem totally doable. We already have the 50/50 mask, why can't we have more like that?

City of Heroes is a game about superheroes. As such, it should represent superheroes. When most people think "Superhero", they think Superman, or Batman, or Spider-Man. People don't usually think tailored suits, casual street clothes, anime armour (Okay, anime fans do), alien carapace, their underwear, pirate getups, ninja costumes, robot forms (Doable), animal forms, monster forms (Hulk, so that's fine I guess) and more.

There's lots of dudes in tights, But right at the Front are Monstrous Dudes, a dude in a crazy- Ancient Norse warrior get-up and a powered-armor character.

Yes, but those are pretty much it.
Really
Tights
Armor
Nothing(monsters)
Street Clothes
The only thing left is different styles of those concepts.

Glowy is fine, but make it look superhero-y.
This was posted to disprove Xan's opinion, but it's a perfect example of the kind of stuff I wouldn't mind seeing in the costume creator:

The point I made still seems to be overlooked. "More variations of tights!" isn't the kind of thing that has the visual wow factor needed to turn heads (of people not already playing, at least) at an event like Comic Con. If I was doing the marketing, even the addition of 100 new tights patterns/variations would only merit a "below the fold" ("after the jump", for you raised on the 'net young 'uns) mention on any press materials about the new issue. Especially considering how much there is coming to the table with Issue 21
