Is it just me or does Union seem like a ghost town? I just got back from a break to find out that they (finally) merged the servers and that Union seems abandoned. I haven't popped into blueside to see how things are yet, but where's everyone gone? Has everyone moved onto the greener pastures of the Yankie servers?

There's a fair few of us still around on Union Depends what time of day you're on though. We've also had quite a few overseas friends join us, although they tend to be online later than us EU folks.

There's also the grindtastic iTrials that are usurping people away from the journey of the 1-50 game. Could be another reason it feels empty.

Most of the time when I log in, Union has been one of the few servers in Yellow capacity, so it shouldn't be that empty.

That said, my home server of Victory is seeming like it's harder to find teams recently. I suspect there may be some truth in what Tyger suggests.

I've seen 2 dots on Union EVERY single night since incanate content was released, and it was NEVER like that before.

So no, it's not empty. It's busier than it ever used to be.

The thing is, I'm told that it's busy, but I never see anyone around, really. It confuses and irritates me.

Which is all true, I've never seen Union on 2 dots night after night either. However, I wouldn't think numbers of dots per head of population is standardised.

Couple of years back when I was much more active searching on Union would have given double the hits I get today and yet at the time Union only ever saw one green dot. The only time I can recall seeing Union hit 2 dots then was when Defiant crashed and then search was throwing up 700+ players. Most nights now I haven't seen search much over 150. I'll give you search isn't the absolute server total but I can't believe half the server is perma-hidden, let alone 2/3 or 3/4.

But hey, some people are glass half full types. There are also people who think cream eggs, toblerones and imperial leather haven't really shrunk since they were nippers!

I believe this is the crux of the matter. There might be a lot of people on but they're too busy farming the trials on their 50s. Busy server but all gathered at one end of the pool.

True. Things seem to be going the way of Wow in the sense that everyone's gear grindin'.

This forum is practically dead, the union forums are practically dead, and I've never seen Union with 2 dots since I started up a week ago. It's depressing.

NCsoft, just merge some servers or something please...

All servers went down today for a new hardware update. Hardly surprising to find them down, is it? Unless you expect hardware to be replaced with the computers on. Which, you know, can't be done.

Also, the coloured lights next to the servers have less to do with how many people are logged in than they have to do with how much of a load the server can handle. Considering this is the second hardware update the servers have been subjected to, I think it's safe to assume the servers won't be going yellow or red in the foreseeable future, all other things remaining equal.

I'd copy/paste the post explaining why merging servers is not also bad, but dumb, but I can't be bothered to go look for it.

I did that two years ago. Union seemed dead to me then, with around 100-200 players online at peak time.

It was tough making the choice to abandon my 50s and move to Virtue server, but I came to the realisation that sticking with my progress on my dead server would be like sticking with a sandbox that has become a toxic waste dump rather than moving to the pristine sandbox across the road just because I've become really attached to my now toxic waste covered sandcastle.

I don't know how Union's doing these days, but I logged in briefly when my old EU account became free and I saw four people in Atlas... Four. Then I logged back into Virtue and, even though it wasn't peak time (GMT afternoon), I saw tens of people and the broadcast channel busy with people setting up sewer trials.

My advice (though I'm sure I'll get flamed for this by die-hard EUers) is to trash all your Union/Defiant toons, sell their enhancements and then global mail the influence to yourself and use it to start a new life on a busy server (Virtue is the closest in community to Union, imo).

I did this too, but I wouldn't be telling people to abandon Union and head for Virtue, especially nowadays when you can play on both anyway, what's the point of burning bridges? Create a few alts on each and decide when logging in where and who you want to play.

Trashing your characters and selling all your enhancements would be a silly move nowadays, if you really want to move a character just use your monthly Character Transfer slot, but I'd still say the absolute best thing to do is just make another alt and leave your current char where they are.

Weird, Union was on 2 dots last night. At 9pm it's always 3rd or 4th on the Server List (seems to be neck and neck with Exalted) in terms of load.

If there is to be any server merging (and I'd say it might be likely once the new set-up has been running a few months) it's more likely to be Defiant than Union anyway.

This forum is dead because it's not particularly relevant to a lot of what people are posting nowadays (I tend to frequent the AT forums)

Keep in mind that there are a myriad of factors at play here.

1. The i-Trial grindfest keeps people playing 50's instead of levelling alts = Less people in zones.

2. The ability to get to missions is much easier and faster now than it was before. With Ouro and mission tp's and revamping to cut down on travel time = Less people zooming around zones and spending more time hidden in instances

3. Yes, the game population is lower than it was in 2007. This is just a natural thing for an aging title. On top of that, those of us still here are pro's that know all the in and outs, cutting down on the 'standing around talking' crowds.

4. The EU/NA merge means more than a handful abandoned the server for busier pastures called Virtue and freedom.

That said, the advent of Freedom has seen the games population SWELL in recent weeks!! I mean bloat! I've seen more players gathered around Mrs. Liberty this week than I did all last year... combined.

I made Freedom my new home, even normal hours EU time there are people online, not enough to start a trial, but once the evening kicks in it really starts getting crowded. Upto 11pm when trials get really busy, just past midnight its really crowded.

The majority of my characters are still on Union and Defiant, but havent touched them for weeks, maybe months now. I really wonder how many will show up tonight at the invasion event.

This is very probably the best advice.

Now the game has gone free to play you'll notice an upsurge in players on most servers, I mean I just popped out of a mission into Talos Island 2 on Virtue at effectively breakfast time on the east coast. Keep the home server, mine will always be Defiant, but don't be afraid to alt on another if it's busy when you usually play.

The only server I'd recommend avoiding would be Exalted, although that'll no doubt be subjective

I moved to Virtue a while ago; moved back to my EU account when they merged the server lists, but mainly re-rolled on Virtue until a friend came back and we level-pact'd to 50 on Union.

I'm hoping the population on Union picks up, but Virtue is a good alternative, it seems busier at the times I play; I'm planning on moving one or two characters there.

Exalted has a decent population at the moment.

If only they had cross-server trials, would make things alot easier.
