I'm glad I could help you fill in that missing entry in your Dev spotting book.
-
Thanks - I knew someone would recognise it. Not a format I've worked with before, but if the XML feed is a goner, I'll see about altering the script I'm using on our SG website to decode that instead.
-
Having a working server status page again is very welcome, but the XML feed that goes with it is still producing blank data:
http://na.cityofheroes.com/global/in...=na&format=xml
Interestingly, stripping the format=xml part of the URL does elicit some live data, though in a format I'm unfamiliar with:
Code:This presumably means it's the XML output code that's borked, rather than the data feed, so hopefully it should be a relatively easy fix. The data is also still segregated into region=eu and region=na (which includes Exalted). Since we are all one happy server family now, any chance of a combined XML feed that isn't blank?{"timestamp":"2011-09-21 16:55:02","timezone":"UTC","0":{"server":[{"name":"Freedom","status":"Up"},{"name":"Justice","status":"Up"},{"name":"Pinnacle","status":"Up"},{"name":"Virtue","status":"Up"},{"name":"Liberty","status":"Up"},{"name":"Guardian","status":"Up"},{"name":"Infinity","status":"Up"},{"name":"Protector","status":"Up"},{"name":"Victory","status":"Up"},{"name":"Champion","status":"Up"},{"name":"Triumph","status":"Up"},{"name":"Exalted","status":"Up"}]}}
Pretty please?
With a cherry on top? -
Yep, got it on my DP blaster too.
It's really distracting in combat. I've /bugged it. -
I haven't had much in the way of lag on BAF trials since the very first one I played in the early days of it being live. There's been some slight power lag in a few since but nothing that really distracted. Admittedly I play a FF/Rad where lag isn't as much of an issue, but I'm nonetheless curious to see how things are now.

There will now follow a protracted argument over whether the broomstick animation should be between-the-legs or side-saddle...
-
Most of the time when I log in, Union has been one of the few servers in Yellow capacity, so it shouldn't be that empty.
That said, my home server of Victory is seeming like it's harder to find teams recently. I suspect there may be some truth in what Tyger suggests. -
UStream buffering is so bad here that even the recording of the now-finished event is unwatchable. Glad I didn't bother with the live stream.

My advice for accommodation: don't stay at the Travelodge Birmingham Central. Based on my stay there for the Omega Sektor meet it's an utter dump and you will only get about an hour's sleep if you are lucky. When the hotel's own website even warns you that "there may be some street noise" you better damn well believe there will be street noise, even if you are on the 6th floor.
-
I just had another look today, and I am now seeing all the servers in the transfer list. Helpfully the list isn't actually big enough to fit them all, and there's no scrollbar so you have to do a reverse sort by name if you want anything past Union, but they are all there.
-
It does seem odd that we've heard nothing official about this. I was going to transfer a char to Union until I heard about it.
Question: having never done a server transfer, does the list you can transfer to appear before making a purchase? Could I therefore keep checking to see if it miraculously starts working without burning any cash? -
Hopefully it encourages other able organisations to do the same.
-
Yep, the new updater already works with both US and EU versions of the game.
I'm pretty sure that that the code you use determines whether you get a US account billed in dollars or an EU account billed in Euros/sterling. Boxed copies of GR would give you a US account, but now I think about it, if you have no problem being billed in dollars you there is nothing to stop you doing that once global server access is in place. I have always used a US account as I started before the EU launch, and I will be able to use the EU servers once the time comes.
Bear in mind that the exchange rates have for some time now made a US account more expensive than one billed in sterling (not sure about Euros but I suspect the same applies). -
Nothing has been mentioned to that effect. Merging the whole accounts system would be a much bigger engineering challenge than allowing global server access, so I suspect there will be no change on that front.
-
Finally.
Back before the EU launch, a few of us (myself included) who had been in the game since the beginning tried desperately to convince Cryptic/NCSoft that having a separate EU presence was completely unnecessary.
We were told they needed separate offices. They have since closed. We were told they needed local GMs because you couldn't do the job from another timezone, which was always clearly BS. And we were told they needed walled-off servers so they could concentrate the EU players onto a few servers so they could find teams easier, despite the fact that it was well-known then that Victory was the unofficial EU server (just as other servers had unofficial status, such as Virtue being the unofficial RP server).
We said they were wrong, and they said we didn't understand.
Now they've finally proved us right. And I'm not smug at all. NOT AT ALL.
On a positive note, I'm looking forward to seeing you on the 'classic' servers. I like to think that EuroCore's presence here still makes Victory the unofficial EU server in the US list, so feel free to stop by and say hello. -
Quote:Just been looking at a Wireshark trace while the update was running, and from what I've seen, their "content delivery network" is Akamai, which is not peer-to-peer.One thing worries me about this
"content distribution network" Does this mean Peer to Peer? all Peer to Peer is blocked on the network so i'd simply not be able to patch or anything
This is a good thing because many ISPs (mine included) will have an Akamai cache on their local network, so as advertised, we should benefit from improved download speeds. I'm getting pretty much line speed right now, which is a massive improvement over the old updater. I've downloaded 90% of the entire Test client while I was writing this post.
That said, it wasn't all smooth sailing. The install seemed to go OK but the first time I ran the launcher, it hung with just a blank grey window and a menu bar that didn't do anything. Killed it with Task Manager and it ran OK second time. -
Every time there is a CoH announcement, I get 4 copies of the email, probably because a long time ago I had 4 US accounts on the go under my single master account. Today I finally tired of this, and given that I always already know about whatever it is the email is about anyway, I decided to take advantage of the Unsubscribe function.
This didn't work, however. I got a bounce message back stating the following:
Quote:The email I sent was already a blank email. It didn't even have a subject line. The eventual culprit? I even had to switch the email to plan text mode, because the few dozen characters of MIME header was enough to get it rejected.Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently:
leave-24724-3377849.847dcced4e26342d...ris.ncsoft.com
Technical details of permanent failure:
Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the recipient domain. We recommend contacting the other email provider for further information about the cause of this error. The error that the other server returned was: 554 554 mail sent to subscribe/unsubscribe address is too long - looks like spam! Send a blank email to subscribe/unsubscribe (no long signatures!). (state 18).
Come on NCSoft, this is just silly. I shouldn't need to understand mail format protocols just to unsubscribe from a list server. I'm sure your server can tolerate messages that are a few lines long if you ask it nicely... -
Quote:I have this too. Even when I try to modify an existing costume that uses these pieces, the menus for them are missing. As per the above, if I select a pre-made costume that uses one of them, the menu items reappear. They then stay even if I exit the tailor interface and reopen it, and this persists even after logging off - but only on that costume slot. If I want to access them on another costume slot, I have to repeat the same procedure. Not sure if others are having this same problem or not.It seems I can no longer access the Trench coat (3 month vet reward) or the Magic Bolero (Magic Booster Pack)....
I have found if I go to the "custom" settings and choose the "witch costume" I can then customize my costume to include the trench coat as well as the magic bolero. -
Quote:Unless they happen to be the same hardware that could also be used to later provide additional clustered capacity to the existing US servers...This is an important point.
If anyone still had any fears that the EU servers time was limited, this, at the least, should put those fears to rest.
Nobody invests in new server hardware if they're planning on closing the servers down in the forseeable future.
Anyway, this is all the more amusing to me because it's the final nail in the coffin that contains every bogus argument NCSoft made all those years ago for why they needed to have separate servers with separate staff for the EU. We called them on it then, and they said we didn't know what we were talking about. If only I could go back in time and show them this post, we could have all saved ourselves a lot of damned hassle. -
From now on I will consider myself lucky that I only get 4 of them.
-
There were also at least two "Team Seeker" icons (I had one of them). Proud to say I have no idea what they meant.

Quote:Technically, GMT refers to a 'static' time zone, and does not account for daylight savings. Right now, the UK is on BST, which is equivalent GMT+1, so the maintenance tomorrow will not occur at 12.00 GMT, but 11.00 GMT. I think the intention was to take account for daylight savings when communicating the server maintenance time.I'm more bothered about the fact that they've put 'British time' as opposed to GMT
Of course, that doesn't address the differing dates during which daylight savings is in force in different countries... -
I was clued into this today by an SG mate who had failed two missions today this way, and it suddenly explained the report I had on one of my own AE missions. I understand there are a literally hundreds of open bugs that the devs have to keep track of at any one time, but this seems like it should be on the known issues page.

Haven't been able to find myself or either of the guys I drove up with
. I'm wondering whether it was only people with the Hero Pass - we were there the whole weekend but stayed in a hotel...

Can we talk about bulk discounts? Please? Or discounts for several accounts in one family?
[/ QUOTE ]
QFT. At the very least there should be a discount for buying 2 codes. That's an obvious trick to have missed IMO.
