Technically it is a prequel to the John Carpenter version- the Dutch station was the 1st to find the ship. If you remember Carpenter's version opened with a Husky being chased by a copter trying to kill it. The dog was the Thing.
This is apparently the story of the Dutch station, so take it as you will, we all know how it ends.

has it been pulled? according to the official site and IMDB it's scheduled for an october release in the US

Nope, it's the German for forbidden. Like lots of words it just sounds cooler in German.
