Only just come back, some queries.
Welcome back to the game!
1. If someone sends me a tell is there a quick key response to reply, or do I need to type.. /t insert Superhero name everytime.
|
2. Is there a bank of some kind? And if not, can we store things in the trade tab without putting them up for sale, or do they get lost if left there? Okay with the ten slots most of my alts have thats not really a fix, but at higher lvl if I have more it might be a useful stop gap.
|

If you have a SG base, you can also have additional salvage storage there, as well as enhancement and inspiration storage. But that stuff will be available to everyone in the SG with the correct permissions, it is not personal unless it's your personal base.
3. Do folks tend to slam all their alts into one Supergroup, or is it more based on each hero? This might be subjective to every player, just wondering in general, more than looking for a definate answer.
|
Unless you have a certain veteran reward, you can get your first movement power at 14, and the prerequisite for it at 6. Capes are unlocked via a mission at 20, just like auras at 30. Note that by doing safeguard/mayhem missions you can get temporary travel powers. Or have ninja/beast run permanently if you buy the appropriate booster packs.
5. Is there a mail system? If not, how can you transfer items from one of your alts to another. For example a costume piece dropped for my main, which is perfect to one of my secondary alts, is there any simple way of getting it to her?
|
6. Regarding Going Rogue, which I am considering getting, do you get to select the alignment from the moment you download it, or do certain things need to be done. For example I have a Villian and a Hero, who probably should be middle ground style characters, if I get going Rogue, is that something they can effectively start as/switch to immediately, or is it mission based?

So let's say you have a Hero character who you would rather have as a vigilante. You do around beating things up to acquire tip missions. With each tip mission you start, you select the vigilante option (typically, the 'hero' option is things like 'save the hostage' or 'rescue the ambassador' or suchlike, whereas the 'vigilante' option is things like 'go beat up the people responsible' with the unspoken idea being that the hostages fend for themselves.) Once you've done 10 missions where you selected the vigilante option, you can then get a vigilante alignment mission. Upon completing that, you are now a vigilante (with all the bonuses and drawbacks).
After a long absence, I decided to resub after being inspired by the idea of it going free to play. As although I am happy to pay, my wife who isn't as big a superhero fan, will only play if it has a free model. So from the Freedom update she will be willing to run with me. Thus I am back, and subbing for the time being, restarting my starting characters I had left on Defiant.
Been ages since I played though, and a few things are making me scratch my head. I've had a brief look around here, but with work time fast approaching and this site being sadly blocked there. I was thinking perhaps I might get a more direct response from the community on some queries before I try to log back in tonight. |
2. --->> You can store your salvage in the Vault (or whatever it's called redside :P or the bank in Praetoria), these are in most zones, including Pocket D, and most bases. You can store recipes you don't want to carry around at Wentworth's (or the Black Market redside or the Trading House in Praetoria).
3. -->> People do different things with sgs, some do put all their alts in one server in one sg, others don't. It's up to you completely and depends what you are looking for in an sg (a group to do missions/tfs/trials with, a cozy hang-out for yourself and few friends, a solo storage/transport hub, some combo . . . whatever).
4. -->> Depends what you've bought, but as you're just coming back, then you get a travel at lvl 6 and another 14. If you've got a toon somewhere that is level 20, I believe with one of the recent updates, you've unlocked warshades and peacebringers, each has an inherent travel (teleport and flight, respectively). No idea what the redside versions are/have. Capes are unlockable at lvl 20 via the representative in City Hall (and someone somewhere redside). Auras at lvl 30 (same rep, same City Hall), and that may actually be lvl 40 (haven't done that in a while).
5. -->> yes, there's a mail system, you'll see it on your chat menu. It's intuitive, so just open it and you'll see what to do. You can mail most things (not merit rewards of any kind, but recipes, salvage, enhancements, influence).
6. -->> with GR you will have the same character creator options that you have now, so you will be able to make characters in Paragon, the Rogue Isles, or Praetoria. If you choose Praetoria, you'll be able to decide what you want based on the two choices there: resistance or loyalist.
You won't need to pick a hero / villain side until you leave Praetoria at 20. I highly recommend running through all four alignments in Praetoria (there are "good" resistance and "bad," ditto loyalists). The writing is great, the stories absorbing, it has a great beat, and you can dance to it. Heh. Anyway, the point being that you won't have to choose right away, and you can change your mind throughout the process.
And even if you do decide to be a villain (or hero) and then decide you want to be a hero (or villain), no problem. Just do a series of tips and switch alignments. In an upcoming issue, all ATs will be available in one new starting zone that will be (from what i understand) sort of neutral, a proving ground of sorts before moving on to Paragon or the Rogue Isles.
It's a lot to take in, I know, and I'm not doing a great job of explaining it. But welcome back to the game.

Currently, as long as you have Going Rogue on your account, you have to change your alignment of your exitsting characters by doing alignment Tip missions, which you can earn starting at level 20.
Also, if you have Going Rogue, you can make any AT for the Praetorian Tutorial, and when you are level 20 decide auto-magically what Alignment your character will have, when you leave Praetoria.
When i21 releases you will be able to start any AT in the new tutorial and make the decision to be a hero/villain as you go.
I recommend getting the City of Heroes Going Rogue: Complete Collection it offers the best combination of deals to help your account catch up with the game. And you should consider getting one or more of the Booster Packs as well, for the additional powers and costume sets that come with them.
Welcome back to the game. Happy Gaming

2. If you mean storing Invention salvage, their are Vaults that will let you store items on the City Maps and in Pocket D there are both Hero and Villain Vaults... there is also a Vault and general Storage Racks for inside a SG Base. If you mean storing Enhancements, there's the 10 slots per character, there are storage tables for holding them in the SG Base. You can also send/store items in global Email. You can send items and INF to your own global name that starts with a @ ... like @superbob (not my real global

3. Every player and/or character is different. In my case I often make a Supergroup with me and my wife's character in it...and maybe one or two personal friends on one server. But other servers are different. On Justice my characters are pretty much all part of the Iron Eagles II SG ... a hardcore group that retires characters who die from the SG if they die.
4. Movement powers come from the power pools you need to take one of the first 2 powers in the group (opens from level 6) before getting the main movement power ( opens at 14th) There is a veteran reward that lets you take the movement power without prereq at level 6. Capes are available at level 20 ... need to run a mission arc from City Rep in Atlas City Hall for heroes, Kalinda or Burke villainside... Auras open at 30 from another mission arc from them. If you've purchased any paid Booster Packs... like the Magic Pack ... those capes are available at the start.
5. Yep, there is an Email system. You can send items like enhancements, inspirations, recipes, INF, salvage to anyone's global name, including your own. Your global name starts with @. I find it handy to always mail myself an awake and a breakfree ... for those times it all goes wrong... you can even collect them when dead

6. The Going Rogue system. Your character will start getting notification of TIPs found at level 20. They are special missions that can be found in a Tab on your Contacts area. These missions come in flavors. If you are a Hero they will come with a Hero choice, if you wish to affirm your Hero side, or a Vigilante, if you wish to slide to a darker shade of Hero. After running 10 of a type a special alignment mission Tip will drop from a defeat that lets you run a mission to either complete the change or affirm your existing status.
If you start in Praetoria you can play any type of character... at around level 20 you can travel to Primal earth choosing whichever side your prefer to become (Paragon/Rogue Isle) at that point

Kill 'em all. Let XP sort 'em out.
As others have mentioned, Backspace does what you're looking for. But in case you find yourself needing to respond to multiple tells that come to quickly for you to keep up with, you can click on the persons name in the message box, and a select "Send Tell" to respond to them when Backspace won't reply to them.
|
You can also reply with /r <message>, which sends a message to the last person to message you; and if multiple people are messaging you and you want to reply specifically to the last person you sent a message to, you can /tl <message> or /tell_last <message>.

Many thanks for all the replies, and very helpful information, so cheers for that and nice to see a very friendly community right off the bat.
On a side note, where you on the EU forums before they merged Golden Girl, the name seems familiar for some reason.

A small point I want to bring up about the email system is that it can be disabled in the Options menu. If you do not see the Email heading in the top of the chat box with Team, League, Friends, Super, LFG and Tab then it is likely disabled on that character. This setting is per character, so even if you enable it on one it may not be enabled on another.
If it is disabled, go to Menu, Options, scroll down in the General tab until you get to the section headed Email. Make sure that In-Game Email is set to Enabled and you can set the other settings however you need. Once those are set click the Apply Now button in the lower left of the window and you should now see Email at the top of the chat box between Super and LFG.
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.
Black Pebble is my new hero.

There is the Personal Storage Vault, which can hold 30 pieces of salvage. And yes, you should be able to store items on Wentworths without auctioning them, but it is subject to the overall limit you have based on your level and so forth. |
There is, but you have to be level 10 to send the mail with the item you want to send. You send it to your own global handle (your @globalname), and then log on to the character you want to retrieve it on. |

Negaduck: I see you found the crumb. I knew you'd never notice the huge flag.
Regarding Movement...
Some folks have mentioned that you can get capes early with certain booster packs, and I think I saw one mention of ninja run and beast run.
Ninja Run (martial arts pack) and Beast Run (animal pack) are great for alternative travel powers. They open for a character at level 4, I believe.

One of the reasons I love most of the helpful players in this game is that I'm always learning something from them. After over 7 years of playing the game, there are still things to learn.

Run into an odd problem and checked my options but I don't seem to be anything in there that would cause it.
When I send a reciepe to myself via @'myhandle' the character who sends it, is immediately taking it back into their folder.
Are Reciepe's not allowed to be sent, or is there something I need to do to stop the character doing that?
Your mailbox might be full... You can only have 20 global emails in your box at a time.
You can have more messages that are addressed to a specific toon, but you cannot send attachments via "toon mail". (hope that made sense)

Ah okay, will check my toons, although I am pretty sure I don't have any, unless stuff on Auction counts to the total.
The direct mail sadly won't work at the moment as it says attachments have to be sent to a @'handle' when I try to mail the character directly.
Not sure if thats because she is under lvl 10?
Nope, nothing on my toons.
Tried mailing my lvl 11 Villian directly as well, but it said the same thing, needs to be sent @'handle' if a attachment.
Haven't tried the mail yourself and reply thing, but that would mean I'd need to lvl the secondary to lvl 10 first, so she can send mail.
Correct.
You can only send attachments via global mail (not to the toon), AND you must be on a toon that is lvl 10+ in order to send global mail.
A toon may claim attachments at any level.
So, my toon, Brigitte (lvl 50) can send global mail attachments to my mailbox using @Bo'Tanika as the recipient (limit of 20).
Then, my lowbie, NumerNum (lvl 1), can claim them.
Note that Brigitte would not send the attachments directly to NumerNum...
Also, NumerNum cannot send global mail.
Although I believe he could send a regular "toon mail" (text only) message to Brigitte, if he were so inclined.
Edit:
Okay... just tested. Apparently, even the regular "toon to toon" mail has a lvl 10 requirement for sending. Also, you would need to have the "friends & SG only" Option (on general options menu) disabled to see them in your inbox.

If you do use Ninja Run or Beast Run for travel, one word of advice - turn them off the instant you get into combat. They are endurance sinkholes and will make your blue bar plummet like few other things in the game. And short of getting incarnate Alpha Cardiac, there's no real way to change that. I'd strongly advise you not to rely on them for any kind of PVP, be it Arena or Zone.
One thing that people haven't mentionned (and that you may or may not have noticed) is that the former Fitness Pool is now inherent - ALL characters automatically get the powers at level 2. The inherent Swift and Hurdle, along with Ninja Run/Beast Run, made Super Jump borderline redundant, and turned Superspeed into a stealth power. And unlike those two powers, you can slot inherent Fitness to enhance its effects.
