Desperate Guy should get the girl!
Maybe just allow confusion powers to be cast on Turndown Girl.
Maybe followed by fortitude and stamina on the pair if all goes well.
Actually, given the desperation and how long he's been in the cold, a slow may be required.

One of the side effects of doing BAFs a lot to get my incarnate stuff is I find myself hovering near Desperate Guy and Turndown Girl in Pocket D for up to half an hour whilst waiting to join a BAF. Her constant disdainful responses are a sort of cumulative tragedy. As such, I'm now feeling more than a little sorry for the poor guy, whose lines are indeed quite bad, but they make my gf laugh when I use them on her.
Turndown Girl needs to give him a break, I reckon. So Devs, please can you include some alternate dialogue for them in I21? Maybe have her be swayed by his idiot charm and persistence over the next few issues? |

If Turndown Girl didn't actually like Desperate Guy, I see no reason why she'd spend so much time hanging around with him.
Here's the the truth, I bet: they're both mutants, with Desperate Guy having been born with ability to crank out hokey one-liners, while Turndown Girl has the ability to automatically rebuff anything said to her.
Despite the apparent friction they have while out clubbing, they're actually a loving couple, happily married at that. They just don't have effective control over their mutant powers.

In it, a group of dogs are playing - brace yourself - tether cat (as opposed to tether ball).
The artist, Gary Larson, thought of this much as a captured moment in these cartoon-animal's lives; certainly, in his mind, this was nothing worse than you might see from Tom & Jerry or Sylvester & Tweety (let alone Itchy and Scratchy). And it was funny, to him, for the same reasons. (And I happen to agree with him.)
But he got an absolute <mountain> of objections.
He theorized it's because the event never changed - the cat didn't get away, the dogs didn't get their comeuppance, no matter how many times you opened your book, the cat was still, uh, "involved" in the dog's game.
I agree with those who say that, in real life, a guy who'd been hitting on a girl for 5 years doesn't "deserve" to have her "break down" and say yes. Obviously, it doesn't work that way - and I understand and appreciate the feeling that it would send a negative message to a subset of persons.
But this isn't remotely like a realistic depiction. The two stand there, for days on end - years; probably more than a century, now - with him settin' it up, and her knockin' it down. Continually.
We never see her throw her drink in his face and leave, or sensitively explain that while he's a great guy, he's just not right for her. We never see him nurse a drink and decide to move on, or try again with another girl, or go home and sign into a MMO to make himself feel better. Their story remains in limbo, never "moving on".
So, I am in favor of a happy ending for either or both of them (preferably both). Although I can certainly appreciate those who argue it shouldn't be with each other.
(Although my personal taste for irony would have them simply randomly reverse the roles of the characters - sometimes, after server maintenance, it would be "Desperate Girl" and "Turn-Down Guy".)
I wonder if...
Hmm...

I always look forward to her more devastating turn-downs, and hope to see her shoot him down in new ways.
As a passing laugh every now and then (at xmas on the waycto the lodge for example), her deadpan responses are amusing punchlines, but when you see their exchanges every day for hours, she starts looking like an evil harridan. I mean, jeez, it's not like she's got dozens of suitors, is it?
Talk about Miss Haversham.

I'd love to occasionally see her call some bouncers, who appear at her side the same way Praetorian Police teleport in. Then Desperate Guy runs to the nearest door or hatch or whatever, with a lame excuse, in denial about why he's retreating.
It couldn't be because this one guy, who she's not interested in, is monopolizing her time and preventing her from spending time with other people.
Not at all. |
No. It's obvious she's there because she wants to be. And she wants to be because she and Desperate Guy are really a completely lovey-dovey pair.
...or, alternatively, I suppose, we've discovered what happens to people who earn the ire of DJ Zero. Next time you think about breaking that "no fighting" rule, consider why two people so clearly incompatible would be stuck sharing drinks like that for all eternity.

Maybe the devs can make them the only attackable NPCs in the D/Chalet, and once killed they do not spawn again for say... 2 hours. Oh, and make them Level 1 underlings. With no attack or defense powers.
It'd be a perfect way for us who want to get YEARS of pent up frustration concerning their constant back and forth out in a quite constructive manner

I dunno, I think it would be cool if they randomized the NPCs in Pocket D like they do in Studio 55. You know how sometimes one of the Praetors, or a Powers Division member shows up randomly? Or how random villains chat each other up in the D?
It could be like that. They'd be there sometimes, and other times they'd be reversed, and other times something else would be there.
I mean, I've seen her turn him down loads of ways. It's kind of sad.
