War mace and ???

I want to make a character that does good at fighting as many different mobs in the game as possible solo, not too worried about AV's or GM's. I have a WM / SD toon now in his 20's but I am not sure if that is the secondary that will allow me to run tips or radio or contact missions solo with no worries no matter what mobs are in them. I want a toon that is fun to play and I like the look of WM so I can't be talked out of that but I am just not sure about the secondary.

I was assuming brute would be the way to go but I don't mind playing a tanker if that is a better fit.

On a more serious note, I've been toying with a couple mace builds for both brutes and tanks. First one is a Brute and the other 2 are Tanks.

I just finished leveling a WM/SD to 50. If I had it to do over again, I'd probably go WM/WP - just for the quick recovery.

Endurance usage was a constant issue.

WM/Will, lotsa mitigation for your regen to compensate. Should be smooth even at low levels.

Wm/Dark would be a serious contender if it were not for the fact that with your mez aura plus stuns in WM, you may have difficulty gaining fury (a WM/DA friend of mine said his Brute was the best Tank he'd ever made because the enemies were all stunned - but he had low fury all the time, that's why he called him a Tank)

im on a fiery aura war mace thing going its working out really well since at lvl 12 i had 90%resistance to fire damage

If you want an easier ride leveling to 50, WM/Will. I don't have one, so I can't really give tips on it. But the mitigation of WM combined with the all-around sturdiness of Willpower should make for a very happy journey.

If you want a character that you can really pimp out at 50 to be ultra hardy and crank out a ton of damage, I heartily recommend WM/SD. (Besides, having a mace and a shield is also just a classic badass look!) Leveling SD is definitely harder than Willpower. Loading up with Lucks makes a HUGE difference since once you have most of your layered defenses a single Luck will softcap you. Don't forget the trick of emailing yourself inspirations too! It's very helpful in those earlier levels when you can't carry a ton of them. Endurance is also an issue, especially if you take Hasten.

All that gets cured at 50. You can use set bonuses to hit the softcap without gimping your damage output, you can cure your endurance woes with the Cardiac Alpha slot. The effective softcap is higher than 45% in Incarnate stuff, but getting all 3 level shifts plus the Barrier power will get you back to godmode. My SS/SD is able to solo spawns in the "collect glowie" phase of the Lambda trial with ease.

The one weakness SD has compared to a set like Super Reflexes is lower defense debuff resistance. If debuffing foes get a couple of lucky hits in, your defense can crumble fast. It's rare but it happens.

You can get /SD with 95% defense debuff resistance using HO's. Lots of good examples of it on the scrapper forums.

Why make a (insert different AT) over (Insert current AT) when (Insert current AT) isn't as fun?

(Sorry, I couldn't help it. I can't tell you how many times I've seen that in various threads about any AT.)

All kidding aside, consider WM/Electric. While the dmg aura isn't quite as good as Fire's, it's still a damage aura. You will have higher resist numbers then Fire, a boost to speed/recharge in Lightning Reflexes, and great endurance management tools in both Energize and Power Sink. Energize isn't as good a heal as Fiery Embrace, but paired with War Mace I think you'd be fine.

Yeah, mace and battle axe SHINE when combined with the resist-based+heal armor sets. I especially like battla axe, because it's ALL knockdown, nothing wanders. Fire is the least good fit because burn causes redraw, and dark is an endurance-drinking machine, but ba/elec has serious potential.

WM/WP is a solid combo if you want easier levelling.

If you are looking at fully IOing the build, going incarnate ETC - you can make pretty much everything work.

I think WM/SD is a very nice combo, SD adds a 4th AoE, more damage to your ST attacks and WM provides KD which adds to your survivability.

I have one of each at L50.

After reading all of your great input I have decided to keep leveling my WM/SD while I realize it might not be as pretty or STRONG as EA but I certainly like the look of it. One of the biggest questions I have though is about One With Shield while it looks like a great power mids appears to show it as a power than cannot recieve recharge enhancments, is that right? If it is right does that make a skippable power or basically just a get out of jail free power?

I have a build that I threw together at work so I cannot post it right now but I was a little uncertain as to what I am building for. I was assuming positional defenses but what numbers I am shooting for 32.5 or 45?

Don't forget that /Elec has good psi resistance, is sapper proof, and handles well in Praetoria and wherever there is energy damage

I would not skip OWTS.

The recharge can not be reduced, that is correct.

However, it is useful with just the base slot (steadfast 3% def), and it is also useful if you can dedicate a little +res or +hp or both to it.

It boosts your resistance, and your HP as well as giving you enough extra recovery to help mitigate the crash.

All fun aside, WM/SD will be overall a stronger final build than WM/EA.

However, you will have end issues until you can get procs slotted, and you will definitely want cardiac.

So slot 2 End Rdx in all attacks or frankenslot when possible while levelling.

Multistrike is a good set for your PBAoEs (of which you can have 4) for both early and cheap melee defense & AoE defense with good End Rdx Slotting

45%.

If you go cardiac and get to at least T3, you can take Maneuvers to give you some breathing room for extra recharge and slot your PBAoEs with Obliteration.


Here's a conservative build with no purples or PvP IOs that assumes Cardiac.

I'm not sure if this is in your price range or not though.

I can't view the build right now Deus, but I'll try to check it out in the morning.

I don't really have a price range I have farmers as well as a stockpile of enhancements, but I do tend to stay away from purples unless I really enjoy a toon.

I had been staying away from Cardiac for end management favoring ageless but with SD it looks like the +res would come in handy (at least it seems like I remember cardiac having +resistance on it).

I did take a look at /elec and I was liking what I saw.

played a wm/wp, a wm/fa and a wm/elea.....

go in reverse order for best performance, i love willpower and all, but it doesn't bring as much to the table as the other two, wm/fa is a damage machine, just tons of fun, but your blue bar doesn't like you so much until you get your powers well slotted, and consumes recharge is kinda long. elec armor has been amazing, good resists, GREAT blue bar help, extra recharge. i built for recharge and recovery, it's NON-STOP SMASHY GOODNESS!!!1! and i do mean non-stop, you get fury built up and it doesn't drop until you are out of enemies.

/wp is always good, solid, no hassle, no clicks. but is kinda boring now, and doesn't really perform that much better then the other two to warrant giving up their tools. self heals, end recovery, end drain or burn, just tons of fun man, tons of fun.


Oh yeah, that was the time that girl got her whatchamacallit stuck in that guys dooblickitz and then what his name did that thing with the lizards and it cleared right up.

Here's the build i have been working on. Only lvl 22 right now but I am walking around no sets and can consistently go about 30% resist to S/L. End is an issue atm but I am thinking with a little more slotting and ED on the horizon it is going to be smooth sailing!

Nice build Kioshi, not cheap but no purples.

Is the regen sufficient to make up for the lack of heal?
