Free Going Rogue

Well yes, but from what I understand that applies to anyone who has ever spent any money on the game at all (including just subscribing for 1 month).

Free players are paying for it.
Premium players are paying for it.
VIP players are paying for it.
Yes but if you look at that list I posted it clearly shows that NO ONE is getting Going Rogue for free.
|
Um... I did look at that list, before you posted it. In reply to me saying:
GR Purchasers do get something for having bought it. If we ever decide to not subscribe, we keep full access to GR content (under same circumstances, other people still have to pay for it). Thats pretty descent, not that I plan to ever let my sub lapse. |
I'm confused.
Always remember, we were Heroes.
Um... I did look at that list, before you posted it. In reply to me saying:
and then you replied saying the exact same thing I said?? I'm confused. |
I reiterated what was said in the hopes it will sink into the OP's skull if he ever decides to return to the thread. Hopefully if he thinks the posts are directed at someone else he'll be more receptive to the truth.
Don't tell him tho.
I've gotten, and will continue to get, good value-for-money for the Going Rogue content that I've been able to enjoy for... almost a year now, isn't it? And I will be happy to see more subscribers able to create Praetorians and Incarnates when the Freedom change occurs - I'll be ready to help them out and show them the ropes!
Plus, if I lapse into being a Premium account before Freedom starts, I'm assured of still having Going Rogue since I purchased it.
It is true that newbies who subscribe and have never paid explicitly for a GR code will get GR automatically in their VIP account.
However, if such folk drop to Premium, then they lose GR and will have to pay extra for it.
You, on the other hand, who paid for a GR code, will continue to have GR if you drop to Premium level.

This argument seems awfully familiar. Replace 'Going Rogue' with 'City of Villains' and it's like going back in time.

Also on Steam

Somehow i expect the OP to never acknowledge his rant was misinformed even if he reads and understands the replies. Either he'll act like he was actually saying something else or he'll pull a j_s and never post in this thread again once it becomes clear he was wrong.
Dr. Todt's theme.
i make stuff...
Its not right to have people pay for somthing then just give it out free to everyone Thats BS and thay need to do something for the people who payed for it.

Companies of all sorts have been charging customers premiums for new "extra" features that eventually become free "standard" features for decades if not centuries now. It covers their cost of development and provides an accepted source of profit. Ncsoft did it with CoV so there really wasn't any reason to think it wouldn't also happen with Going Rogue eventually. Welcome to standard business practices 101. *shrugs*

I dont like how everyone gets Going Rogue free. I payed for my Going Rogue and i think we should get are money back or a free month of game play or something. The workers who were hired about five in the afternoon came and each received a denarius. So when those came who were hired first, they expected to receive more. But each one of them also received a denarius. When they received it, they began to grumble against the landowner.
These who were hired last worked only one hour, they said, and you have made them equal to us who have borne the burden of the work and the heat of the day.
But he answered one of them, I am not being unfair to you, friend. Didnt you agree to work for a denarius? Take your pay and go. I want to give the one who was hired last the same as I gave you. Dont I have the right to do what I want with my own money? Or are you envious because I am generous? Mt 20:9-15

Your rant is BS. This is a common practice. The same thing was done with villains - we paid for CoV and now everyone gets villains for free. You will not receive any sort of compensation.

Those of us who had already purchased CoH and CoV were given the privilege of paying $10 for the extra in-game powers and costume pieces that came with the GvE edition. No one was given anything for free.
I just want to clarify this. When CoH and CoV were first integrated, it was in the marketing push for the Good vs. Evil Edition, which came with a new retail box. (This was late 2006 to early 2007, a year and a half after CoV came out.)
Those of us who had already purchased CoH and CoV were given the privilege of paying $10 for the extra in-game powers and costume pieces that came with the GvE edition. No one was given anything for free. |
- City of Villains released as an "expanshalone" in October 2005. At this time, you needed City of Heroes purchased separately to play a hero.
- In September 2006 the Good Versus Evil Edition was released. The code for this edition activated both heroes and villains simultaneously (or whichever side was missing, if used on an existing account).
- In July 2008, players who still only had Heroes or Villains without access to the other side gained that access without having to buy anything extra.
Players who already had Going Rogue and remain subscribers aren't getting anything extra (compared to players who currently don't have it, but will by virtue of continuing to sub), but the time we've had to use the GR content, I think counts as enough advantage. (Plus if we lapse and become Premium, we've still got it.)
Somehow I snuck into the game without ever paying for either City of Heroes or Villains (but yes to Going Rogue). I suppose most people who joined in 2008 did.
I think game time cards ($20 for 1 month + expiring jetpack) were able to open accounts or upgrade trials.
I had City of Villains very briefly after it came out, but can't remember any of the account details. Then in '08 when I heard about the CoH/V merge I wanted to get back into the game, and I think I just bought a pile of time cards at Best Buy.
Sadly, the account details only say "Retail". I can't even tell which one is Going Rogue.

I snuck into the game back in 2005 without paying for a retail package. They had something called a 'Buddy Code' where an existing player could invite you and you never had to buy the game - just start paying the monthly fee.

I actually made 5 bucks buying Going Rogue. I got it during Best Buy's Cyber Monday deal for 10 bucks, so I got a month of game time while saving 5 clams. Not a bad deal and I don't begrudge people getting Praetoria this fall for free.

OP: 5-10 years from now, people will give away computers with better specs than the one you're currently using to play CoH. Twelve years ago, many people paid hundreds a month for 56k Internet access.
Paying gets you to experience better things sooner. It's not a guarantee progress will stop ; if anything, it's the opposite. Part of the money you spend is used to push the technology further.
