F2P & Virtue
I'm tending to agree with you here, VG. At least until it actually happens, we all can't just automatically scream DOOOOOOOM ™
I was a refugee from another server too.
I did five years on Triumph before moving here. I only wish that I had made the move sooner.
Virtue is a great community and I'm not going anywhere.
Here is a thought, Virtue is almost always in the red (3 red dots). how is F2P going to affect it?
Yea, I don't really see a need to migrate to the VIP server unless there's some type of perk associated with it (aside from the lack of f2p players).
I would think that for most of the current subscribers, everything would be business as usual. I mean, at the core, what's changing? An influx of new players and a revamp on the vet reward system? If you're already a paying subscriber and like everything the way it is, you will continue to be one and enjoy everything that you already have been.
For me it breaks down to 2 categories:
Business As Usual (pay to play)
and
Here's what you get if you don't want to pay - take it or leave.
And for me... that's fine.

I'm a bit concerned by inventions being "Limited" to Premium users. What does that mean?!
as Ood Sigma said....We will sing to you, Doctor. The universe will sing you to your sleep. This song is ending. But the story never ends.
I started out on 2 other servers long ago and came to Virtue.
Not because I rp, but, because generally you find a very good community here.
I'll keep on paying become a VIP and stay here.
s long as they don't pull a Cryptic and tell me because my characters were made on a subscribed account that going free locks me out of them, I don't see any reason to DOOM over stuff.
Well first of all i am not going anywhere! I have been on Virtue far too long to move just to be on some elitist server. I will continue to pay we sub and be a VIPright here.
Now let us address the DOOOOOOMMMM factor shall we? LOL
1. F2P = exactly 2 (count them folks 2) characters per server... VIP = a maximum of 36 with vet rewards and sloys purchased.
2. F2P = very limited access to chat.. team, local and broadcast.. forget joining globals to make finding teams easier.
3. F2P = unable to form or join any SG. So forget added salvage storage or access to free enhancemenets, inspirations or anything else an SG may have to offer
4. F2P = if I recall correctly even limited, if any, access to the vaults .. you carry your salvage with you PERIOD. Again I am working without access to the offical posts but I also believe buying and/or selling at the market is very limited if allowed at all.
5. F2P = level 1-50 NOT 50 (+1), (+2) or (+3).. in short forget access to any of the Incarnate powers.
Okay lets shorten this .. Free to Play is an extended TRIAL account. Sure I suppose if someone was having financial problems F2P would be one way to at least still have access to the game but that's about it.
F2P will probably bring in the curious for a while and afterwards those they really enjoy the game will wind up VIPs simply because the restrictions of F2P will drive them crazy. Those that don't decide they love COH/V will simply stop playing and vanish.
Worst case .. a few players will migrate to the new VIP server to get away from the rest of us (paying and non paying). Frankly if they need to isolate themselves to be happy.. I don't think the rest of us are missing much when the go poof.
Okay now that we have the moment of calm and sanity we return you to yor previous programing...............
OH MY GOD .....
DOOOOOM!

IT's my hope that we don't see many people from virtue going.
I see the possible influx of people as a good thing. We will potentially have new people to RP with, to build comraderie with, and to share the game we love with.
There are enough restrictions on the Free accts that I really don't think they'll be much of a problem at all. Not more of a problem than people currently on free trials currently sometimes give.
We have a real chance to get the RP community to grow nicely here. Of course, not everyone will be interested in it, but how's that different than now?
If we are open, welcoming, friendly accepting and inclusive, we will accomplish FAR FAR more than some of the snobbish responses I've seen so far. (at least on the main discussion thread. )

I agree with the above posts here that the F2P accounts will be limited enough so that they will not clog up the global or even broadcast chat channels. I believe they will only have access to team and local chat, just like trial accounts have now. I also welcome the influx of new players to possibly strengthen the game community overall, not just Virtue server. And for those who will migrate to the VIP "elite" server, if that's your thing, good luck! I'll stay on Virtue, being a VIP just like most of you all.
There's actually a big plus to this system as it's set up: returning friends. I've got several friends who because of various financial or other similar reasons can't maintain a regular CoH account. With the Premium version, especially as in many cases they've already bought Going Rogue and other packs, they can still get in the game and play and stuff, at least to some extent (how the whole system works will probably be explained in more detail in coming weeks).
I've got a few people I'm seriously hoping show back up because of this.

I think Virtue will have a high retention rate of new free/premium players, mainly because of the awesome, welcoming community here. With all the community events going on (cc's, the stuff American Legion does, Hami raids,) I really do believe Virtue will continue to flourish as a vibrant online community

Some people are concerned that F2P will be destroying vibrant communities, like Virtue.
I think quite the opposite. |
However, the increased load due to a large influx of F2P players does concern me. I notice a significantly slower response to commands in all phases in the BAF trial on Virtue, compared to servers with smaller loads (which experience significant server-side lag only during the prisoner escape phase).
I don't think that F2P players will destroy the community, but the inevitable spammers and RMTers that follow them may make life less pleasant.

I came to Virtue at the end of December, after playing on Victory since 2004.

I think quite the opposite.
My experience with Virtue and its native inhabitants has been an awesome experience, and I don't think any amount of new "free" players will destroy it. I am certain that the Virtue community will be more than embracing to new players (Hey! Those are new potential Pocket D ERP'ers you could be converting!)
I am optimistic that the Virtue community will embrace this next generation of CoH players and as much knee-jerk DOOMas people are experiencing right now, I think it is going to be alright when it comes
