In all honesty, it's a really great game and I haven't had as much fun as I'm having there since playing City. It's a completely different look and feel, but I'm having fun in there. It's a good home while I am too hurt to play City without feeling nauseous.
This. It is a fun game. It's no CoH, but it stands on its own merits.

In the last few weeks, we've seen so many different threads blaming different people for the shutdown. Regardless of what one thinks the factors might be, I think it's safe to say that most people hold the execs at NCSoft responsible for the decision. That's well and good, but actions like the one proposed here have so much collateral damage to innocent people (both devs and players alike).

Write reviews on the merits of a product. TRY it, then review it. Not on what we think might happen, not as an outlet for hurt from another game. Just review the product.

    Ice/Ice in i24

I apologize in advance because I'm horrid with numbers so my two cents isn't going to involve any math or anything.

Relativity doesn't matter up to a point. I mean, the argument that the damage was passable before i24 doesn't hold much weight IMHO. Not because there isn't some merit to it, but isn't one of the reasons blasters are getting a buff across the board because their numbers were relatively low for their intended role? Sure, they still dealt damage before and were perfectly fine on teams, but in relative terms they weren't living up to the intended potential. I'm not saying that it was the only reason for the changes, but relativity was a factor. It only stands to reason that it continues to be one.

With that said, I didn't really hear people going around suggesting that ice was over-powered pre-i24. It ranked higher on the single target side, lower on the AoE side, but in general seemed to be a fairly balanced set. When a set is balanced today and then nearly all the sets around it get a boost, an imbalance will almost certainly occur.

Now, there is merit in the suggestion that by turning blizzard crashless, it may make up for the difference. It may, and I'd leave that up to people with math skills to determine. My gut tells me it wouldn't, though. While it gains some in mitigation, the other sets gain some in AoE damage so I would suspect that the two balance each other out quite nicely. That would still leave the issue of what to do for the sets without snipe.

I know to be perma'd on the snipe changes you need to maintain a certain standard for tohit. An argument could be made that the build that pull it off are somewhat niche and/or min-max, but that is exactly why the issue is important. Those niche builders and min-maxers are the exact same people who will care about relative performance levels.

If the devs say the sets will be watched closely and assessed, I trust them. My OP was simply to see if something was going to be done at release.

    Ice/Ice in i24

I totally agree that it is all relative. Blasters may still be effective this is true, but the blaster changes are being made in response to the feedback that, relative to other archetypes, the blaster class was under-performing. That's not to say that blasters were/are bad in their current state, but rather that they seemed to lag behind in comparison. The point is that relativity matters when considering if a powerset should be eligible for a buff.

Now, this would quickly turn into an arms race between sets if they were all focused on the same thing. It becomes a tradeoff. Single target DPS, AoE DPS, Debuff and Control are the core things I consider when picking a blaster set. In the case of Ice, I knowingly took a bit of a dive in AoE in trade for some very nice relative single target damage and some decent control to boot.

With the blaster changes in i24, my role doesn't really change per say and I'm sure I'll still be able to do a passable job. Heck, with the crashless Blizzard, a lot of new possibilities might arise. It's just unfortunate that they'll be on the lower end of single target and AoE DPS because every set should rank either high in one or the other (or fall mid-range for both).

With all that said, I still love the set. It does sound like the devs will be watching things closely and I have hope. Positron sounds like he has a lot of great things coming down the pipeline to give older powersets some love so we'll see!

    Ice/Ice in i24

That seems unfortunate, but maybe I'm jumping the gun a bit here.

When I looked a while back, the community seemed pretty certain that Ice would be dropping to nearly the bottom of the pack. Is the jury still out on this?

    Ice/Ice in i24

My apologies if my search-fu is weak. I've seen this addressed many times over the last few months but I wasn't sure if it's been definitively answered.

With the snipeless primaries such as Ice, what changes are being made to ensure they don't become under-performers?
  7. Sorry all for the delay and thank you for the feedback. I think I've found a correlation, but not 100% on the solution yet.

It seems like every time my fiancee touches the internet at all from her iPad or laptop, it's lag-city. She could be streaming videos or just browsing a website but the same issue occurs.

We've never had an issue before, but my gut is telling me it might be my router. Any other ideas?
  8. I pinged what I found on a thread to be the IP for the Virtue server, but let me know if I got it wrong...

  10. As the title says, I've been experiencing massive rubber-banding in-game and slowness on the forums over the last 24 hours. Before this the game has run fine at my rig on these settings for quite a long time. I'll attached the various data points I've gathered.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!

  11. Following up... I checked my slotting and even though I had the proc, I had tornado slotted with two 50 KB IOs. Taking those out fixed things greatly.

To clarify... with the release on beta, will knockback occur the remaining 60% of the time or will no knockdown/knockback effect be applied at all? I'd much rather it be the later.
  12. I thought this was going on during an ITF last night, but I couldn't be sure with all the chaos ensuing. Could someone shed some light onto this?

I'm perfectly happy accepting that tornado might only KD 40% of the time and do nothing 60% of the time, but it's a game changer if for 60% of the time it is actually still using KB because with the sheer number of times tornado is hitting, the net effect is still the same: bad guys going everywhere.

The IO was advertised as a solution to knockback. I'd prefer it do nothing 60% of the time than simply function as KB.
  13. Fool,

As usual your dedication to RP and the community is awesome! More please!
  14. I apologize for taking so long to reply. I wanted to make sure the fix worked before posting it. I tried some of the suggestions here but nothing seemed to work.

Finally I found this article posted back in 2008: Dual Display Nvidia : Alternate Solution

I hadn't thought to look that far back, but following the instructions here fixed the issue. Apparently, it's a known bug that hasn't been fixed in the last four years.

  16. Title says it all. Often, when I hop between zones or go through a door in a zone (ie going into a building or shop), my game becomes very laggy and even the unloadgfx command doesn't help. The only fix I've found it to restart the game.

Now, I run CoH on some fairly high settings, but it works fine even for hours so long as I stay in one zone. I've also run into the same issue on much lower graphics settings on the same machine. I've checked to make sure the computer is not overheating and the issue occurs even when the computer is only using about 25% of its memory and 10% of the CPU. I do use two monitors, but I close all other applications and I do not switch screens at all.

Any and all feedback would be greatly appreciated! Here's the CoH Helper logs and the hijack this logs will follow in the next post.

  17. Hey all! New to the brute forums, so I apologize for any ignorance in advance.

When Staff Fighting comes out, I'm hoping to roll my first ever brute. I've played an invul tank to 50 and I've done shield, reflexes, regen and willpower on scrapper. Frankly, I'm sick to death of those powersets and I'm hoping to try something a bit new.

Has anyone tried elec, fire or dark with staff? I've been told all three can be challenging, costly or squishy but I'd love some more opinions on what would work best.

Any and all thoughts are appreciated!
  18. Fool,

    This is a great concept!

I've been in other SGs with MindfulFool and I must say he is one of the most talented RPers I have ever met when it comes to out of the norm characters and concepts. I highly recommend anyone with a free, applicable character to give this VG a look!

  20. Hello all,

I am looking to hire an artist to draw a group shot of about 13 character, colored. I know the cost for these things vary widely, but I'm trying to keep the cost to a maximum of $215.

Does anyone have recommendations of an artist for group shots within this price range?

Nope! Nope I can't. Look, see: NEW BASE! *handwaves*
  22. Here I was about to do a shameless plug, but I see Tyger beat me to it! *give Tyger cookies*

Anyway, everything people have stated so far is spot on. Virtue is generally considered to be one of the more RP-accessible servers, however some might argue that RP in general has dwindled over the last year or two.

There's still plenty to be had, though! I've always had the best luck joining a group. My group, the Codex, does a lot of forums stories and in-game events. There's plenty of active supergroups still out there and I'm sure many would love to have you. If you can afford to make the transition from Free to Premium (no monthly fee, still), I'd highly recommend it!
  23. Don't get me wrong, it's a great concept for anyone who has a matching color scheme.

I just don't want my dark, brooding anti-hero to look to have it look like he's going through a mid-life crisis.

*Cruisin' through Atlas* "Heeey Ms. Liberty! Check out this ride. That's right... all chrome, baby!"

Anyway, thanks! You saved me some points.
  24. So I apologize if I'm just missing this, but with i21 hitting today, I don't want to waste my points.

All the videos of hoverboard I've seen have been of a bright red, flashy hoverboard. Is this the only model available or do we get to pick or color the board in any way?
  25. SadronMeldir

    Hello, Virtue!

Hey welcome back! If you are interested in a themed group, the Codex is open to new members. We've been around for 3+ years and typically fluctuate between 15-35 active members. We do a lot of forum stories, arcs and in-game RP (with a dash of missioning on the side!) We meetup up regularly on Tuesday and Thursday nights EST but plenty of folks play all week long.

Thematically, we are a shadow group with a few odd twists. I don't want to fill up the board with a length post, so if you're curious check out our website (found in my sig).

If you're looking for another theme, please feel free to PM me and I'll happily try and point you in a good direction.
