An Idea Can Be a Very, Very Dangerous Thing

So today at approximately 11:23 AM EST, I sat down at my computer prepared to run my spines/fire scrapper in furtherance of my tournament when I paused.

This turned out to be a very bad idea.

I had been having trouble lately working up interest in playing CoH because of how huge and clunky the tournament had become. Oh, I love the scoring system and most of my characters but the lack of low level players to team with and the existence of my defenders, controllers and such on low-population servers was a bit of a drag.

So, I started considering how to revitalize the game for myself. An idea occurred to me... a lovely, beautiful... lethally poisonous idea... Why not consolidate all my heroes on Freedom and all my villains on Virtue? The population of those servers would make teaming a bit easier after all. And another, equally deadly, idea came to me... I have two accounts... the second account I had only really been using to sign my "teamed" characters into their respective SG/VGs. Why not have two-man teams? One on each account and that way these Dynamic Duos can compete against one another in a NEW tournament?!

So... through no fault of the Devs at all... I have trash-canned my old tournament and am starting a new one. I am deleting all my characters, including the 42nd level Steelclaw main who was SO close to 50.

>>Sighs<<

And before you ask, no... you can't have my stuff... I'm selling it all on the market and dividing up the proceeds among all my new teams.

You know Steelclaw, if you ever get a character to level 50 I think the servers are going to implode.

So... what you're saying is that I'm ACTUALLY saving the game by doing this?

COOL!

So you're playing on Freedom and Virtue? What times do you play?

I like sk'ing and exemping on pretty much all my characters. Wouldn't mind tagging along to see how bad you suck

I am "retired" (don't have to work anymore), so I don't really have a schedule for playing... pretty much whenever the urge hits me.

Um... Perhaps you should just concentrate on this part. --^

while keeping this in mind. With how you've never seen the level 50 content. Or incarnate trials.

You're not going to use Level Pacts?

Teams are the number one killer of soloists.

I've been playing for a long time and normally have all my heroes on Freedom and all my villains on Virtue. So... good plan!

Uber Talgrim - level 50 emp/dark defender
Uber Rod - level 50 dark melee/regen scrapper
Rod Valdr - level 50 invuln/SS tanker
Talgrim - level 50 ninja/dark mastermind

OMG!! Please add these costume designs now!

Actually, that's exactly what I was planning to do... just forgot to mention it in the original post.

I think, if I were having trouble summoning interest in playing because of a great big set of byzantine rules I'd set up for my characters, my eureka moment wouldn't be that I'd been doing it on the "wrong" servers.

There's lots of ways to get company to play with you on low pop servers. Deleting all characters there and moving to a high pop one and hoping for the best probably is the least effective.

Welcome to my world. I've been playing on Freedom and Virtue for years and these days I'm lucky to find people to team with due to me crazy, crazy antipathy to playing either of my two 50s*, because my normal play-time window is anywhere in a 3 AM up to about 10 AM window. Playing on Pinn or someplace? I could recite dirty limericks over broadcast and no one would ever know.

But I wish you luck with your crazy game! Maybe I'll get a chance to team with you, that would rock.

And yeah, what about leveling pacts?

* Who could have predicted that playing the same character for about a hundred hours could lead to boredom???

I know a lot of people who play in Pinn during those hours. But if you're looking for teammates in broadcast, you kind of deserve what you get if you're not finding anyone.

Cardinal rule of looking for people in this game:
People spend most of their time inside instances. If you're not using a channel they can see and communicate on even inside instances, you don't stand much chance of connecting.

Global Channels and Global Friend lists are your best friends in this game. People are very often willing to switch at the drop of a hat because they're looking for company too. Switching isn't a big deal. Just be sure to stay connected with the people you get along with and share your schedule.

So, how close were you to 50 this time?

Cool. I just came up with some awesome new suggestions for your tournament that I know you just couldn't pass up.... but since you're rerolling all your characters at the moment, I'll wait 2 or 3 weeks before passing them your way.

you know, Steelclaw, have you ever considered, just for the hell of it, to make one toon completely independent of your tournament?
This should be easier now that your consolidating things to two servers.

Steelclaw...

Do you have an ancestor named Sisyphus???

As long as you are enjoying yourself, more power to you, but...

Dang, dude. You keep getting so close...
