The FREEDOM Surge is almost here...
To do list:
- Start an Ouro flashback
- Go watch a movie
"Mastermind Pets operate...differently, and aren't as easily fixed. Especially the Bruiser. I want to take him out behind the woodshed and pull an "old yeller" on him at times." - Castle
Log into Freedumb, get the badge, and get the heck outta Dodge.
"You don't lose levels. You don't have equipment to wear out, repair, or lose, or that anyone can steal from you. About the only thing lighter than debt they could do is have an NPC walk by, point and laugh before you can go to the hospital or base." -Memphis_Bill
We will honor the past, and fight to the last, it will be a good way to die...
My VGs, Knights of Arachnos, Champions of Arachnos and Legion of Arachnos, as well as fellow coalition VG mates are forming a coalition league and are brazenly jumping right into the Praetorian Surge, lag or no lag!
We will not shirk from our opportunity to not only participate in the lag, but to aid in its creation!
Our goal: the crashing of the Freedom Server!
Long live Arachnos!
MUWHAHAHAHAAHAHA!
And look for server mergers by the end of the year if they deem these stress tests to be successful... (because why else would they need to stress-test the servers of a game with a fairly static population that is unlikely to grow?)

The only toons I have on Freedom are a Peacebringer and a Warshade, both mid-teens to mid-twenties. Whenever I consider rolling a Kheldian on my home server, I log into one of those to remind me of why I don't play Kheldians. So...
I'm with the majority here: I'll log in about ten-to-6 (since I'm on Central time), find myself a quiet zone (I'm thinking Kings Row, Dark Astoria, or Boomtown), wait 'til the hour arrives and the badge is granted, and then either switch servers or log and head out on the town for the night, since it is Friday.
I wish the residents of Freedom the best of luck, and I hope the Devs reach their goal of 2500.
@Winter. Because I'm Winter. Period.
I am a blaster first, and an alt-oholic second.
I hope to be 40+ before friday, then I'll duck into the Shadow Shard and putz around.
Teams are the number one killer of soloists.

Well I'm used to a lot of lag on these events but the triumph assault was actually better for me than before so I am going to throw myself at it.
"We have a goal of exceeding our highest ever peak concurrent users on a single server, which is 3500 players. But we might not be able to make that, so we will at least settle for 2500. If we get 2500 concurrent players on the Freedom server on May 27th between the hours of 4PM and 7PM Pacific, we will leave the badge on for the rest of the holiday weekend (May 27th through May 30th) on *ALL* European and North American servers.
We timed this event to coincide with the greatest typical number of concurrent players worldwide to give the most people possible the chance to get the badge. If you don't have a character on Freedom, you can simply create one and log in to get the badge.
If you can't make it on the 27th or over the Memorial weekend, we will absolutely give you another opportunity to get the badge in a few months. If you DO get the badge this weekend, you’ll have some measure of exclusivity for a few months, maybe enough exclusivity to get you to log in real quick before you hit the hay or hit the clubs. And we want to ensure that this badge is prestigious, so the next opportunity will be a limited-time window as well, though longer than three hours to be sure.
When we run this event, we will be able to open the server queue wider than we have ever been able in the past (maybe even turn it off) and we think we can get a ridiculous number of you on Freedom all at the same time, more than we have ever been able to support. We've made some server optimizations that will make it possible to run our servers more efficiently for the future and hold *way* more players on any piece of hardware; this improvement will help us continue to support City of Heroes efficiently for the future. One of the smartest guys I've ever had the pleasure to know has been working insanely hard on this for months, and we want to ensure that he can go back to actually getting sleep at night, comfortable that his hard work has paid off.
You don't even have to stick around and fight off the Praetorian invasion: logging in during the window will grant the badge, and you can log out and go back to your home server. But maybe if you stick around and get into a group, you'll help reach the goal and have some fun at the same time. Imagine seeing more versions of Atlas Park than you have ever been seen before!"

70+ instances of the game? I hope I get into Cap Au Diable 20 or St. Martial 15?
Well I plan to log in on my already made char. Sort of good that I cannot participate much (level wise). And i fear that if I had a char enough (to be more fun) I would see them various crash messages, that i am unable to copy/paste (so far) and report to the Devs. (Like I had on Union and a few times now in the lambda's)
There are some piggs that just do not like my computer

I don't have much of any significant level on Freedom, but I will try to log in and help the stress test if I can make it.

You stress test for four reasons:
1. You want to hammer new code with as much load as possible to try to break it, regardless of whether you think you'll actually have that much load normally.
2. You expect the server load on Freedom itself to increase over time for some reason: either more players, more player activity, or more CPU intensive activity per player in the future (i.e. more high density events).
3. You expect to merge Freedom itself with another server.
4. You're stress testing something else invisible, and using Freedom to do it.
#2 seems the most likely possibility: the devs have specifically stated they are testing new server code which eliminates #4, #3 seems perversely unlikely, and #1 seems uncharacteristic of the devs without some specific reason behind it. So they are probably trying to see a) how stable the server is with lots of characters logged in, b) how much actual activity load they can place on the server and what happens when it exceeds certain limits, and c) which things hurt the server the most in high load conditions: which powers, which effects, which archetypes, which critters, what AI modules, what server events, etc.
Probably part of an overall long term project to make the servers capable of doing more of everything with the least amount of lag. And sometimes they step in the wrong direction and *increase* server lag and load, but that tells us specifically that they are experimenting in that area, or else they wouldn't be making mistakes in that area.

Why would you need to stress test the server with the highest population when you're planning on merging the lower pop servers? Freedom already proves you can contain as many players as Freedom already has normally.
|
I usually see Freedom have around 1,100 average unhidden players at peak times. So if their goal is 2,500, that's just about doubling the norm which they might think is safer than asking one of the other 13 servers that usually has less than 300 to quadruple (not a good word...what's a word for 8x?) the load on that server...maybe? If they have different configs for individual servers, then the 2,500 test on the others might be more risky.
Especially if for some weird occurrence, the entire typical concurrent userbase (4,500ish) decides to participate and pile on to one.
CAVEAT: Not a tech person, even quite possibly extremely naive when it comes to server technology.

Oh, and isn't your #3 reason sort of treading on part of your #2 reason? If they merge Freedom with another server, that would be putting more players on Freedom
Just playing devil's advocate. If they said it's not about merging, that's fine with me till i hear them say otherwise.
Hop my one and only Freedom character into a Steel Canyon radio mish and go watch TV til it's over.

Tell ya what, if ya'll get 2499 people and the badge doesn't happen entirely because I don't want to suffer for it, I'll............
............have a massive ego boost.
It has less to do with any potential affiliations as it does with the fact that forum gripeyness aside, I play the game to have fun, and joining a massive lag event with a level 1 character for no real benefit isn't particularly fun. I've avoided the event on the servers I do play on thusfar, as well, and Freedom's won't be any different, except if enough people show up, there'll be an event badge enabled this weekend.

What's the plan? I've participated in the one on Union and it was a lagfest. I read the others were much the same. If things continue as such, I expect that we will crash the Freedom servers. I heard a rumor that we might get a patch fix for lag on Thursday.
I plan to do the following late Friday.
1. I plan to turn my video card to the lowest settings.
2. Stay in one zone for the duration of the raid
3. Most likely run on the Villain side because I know the Hero side will be oversubscribed.
Anyone want to post their plans? I'm curious to hear what others plan to do.
