Chuck renewed, NBC:Wonder Woman out?

Go Chuck!

I wonder how much product placement in the show helped in getting it renewed...based on the ratings this season I would guess quite a bit!

But TVbtN doesn't cite any sources at all to confirm that, and the rumors say it won't be. But even the Variety article that's the source of the OP's link relies on unnamed informants when they report, "Sources say a renewal for the David E. Kelley midseason drama 'Harry's Law' is likely, but it's not looking so good for Kelley's take on the 'Wonder Woman' remake starring 'Friday Night Lights' alum Adrianne Palicki."

The news is supposed to come out later today, but the way things are going, the more likely Harry's Law gets renewed, the less likely Wonder Woman will be picked up.

What product placement? O.o

Though I only watched Chuck on NBC in the back of my Toyota Sienna while eating delicious Subway sandwiches, so I might have missed them.

Last I heard WW was 'delayed'- but after reading this review of the pilot, I'm betting it never sees the light of day.. (which IMHO is a GOOD thing)

I think despite all the negative angst against this particular pilot it should still get a reasonable chance to prove itself on TV.

It's not like we have to worry that a bad Wonder Woman show in 2011 is going to make the chances of ever getting other live-action versions any worse at this point. We're already at the bottom of the alternative barrel. We've had 30+ years of no Wonder Woman at all so even a short-lived "recent failure" would be better for us comic book geeks than nothing because at least it'd put the character back into the minds of the current generation of TV producers and give it a chance to picked up again by someone else who'd treat the property better before yet another 30 years goes by.

Look at it this way: The super cheesy Cathy Lee Crosby Wonder Woman back in 1974 lead very quickly to the Lynda Carter series that started in 1975. Maybe the mere existence of this questionable Adrianne Palicki pilot will be enough to lead to a better series in the near future.

Yeah, some WW is better than no WW. But given that the Cape seems to have failed for NBC, I wonder if they will go out on a limb on another Super Hero show, particularly after Heroes flamed out...

I'd still watch at least an episode or two, more if it's good.

Yay Chuck! More people need to watch that show, even as hit and miss as parts of Season 4 were, it's better than most of the stuff on TV if you ask me.

The Cape was flawed on several levels. I don't think we can use that as a measuring stick against an established entity like Wonder Woman. Especially when his villains consisted of two guys with bad skin conditions, an eye drop addict, and someone with a split personality.

Besides, attractive woman in a leotard? Head and shoulders above a sweaty-looking, orange-colored, original creation that was saddled with a seemingly cursed Firefly alum.

Granted "The Cape" was no where in the same League as Wonder Woman is. But what I'm saying is, given NBC seems to be struggling in ratings and such over the last few years, they have had 2 super hero shows, Heroes, which faltered after it's first season and steadily went into decline, and The Cape which just never did very well.

That being said, I think NBC might be hesitant to try another Super Hero based show, given their questionable luck with it in the past.

Is Wonder Woman a better property than the Cape? Absolutely, and I'd watch a Wonder Woman show for a couple episodes just because, which is more than I gave the Cape.

But do I trust NBC execs to realize the distinction between a catastrophe like The Cape, and Wonder Woman, and then make Wonder Woman a good show? No I do not.

Hindsight is 20/20. People can look back at both those shows and learn what they did wrong. In Heroes it was the meandering plotlines, the focus on completely irrelevant characters, and the lack of any impetus to actually show superpowered fights.

They could look at what No Ordinary Family did right and build upon that.

It could just be that the average IQ in this country is hovering barely above single digits and that anything beyond the latest singing and dancing show is too much for their mushy minds to handle. In which case, NBC would be better off making the series "Ow! My balls!" to cater to that demographic.

The pilot for Knight Rider was rather lackluster and yet they gave that a series.

Network shows are a joke. They have zero balls to actually put something different on, and then give it a chance to find its legs. I can count on one hand the number of network shows left that I actually watch. I much prefer what the cable channels are doing. HBO, Showtime, A&E, FX, USA are all putting out better products than the networks.

I miss the days when they actually would give shows time to find their legs. Some of the best shows started out rather weakly, and were given the time to find their voice and their formula. Networks don't have the patience for that anymore, and the quality of programming in general suffers for it.

See Seinfeld as a perfect example of this.

Now I'm curious!

Chuck
NCIS
NCIS LA
Criminal Minds
The Mentalist

Yup, all on one hand. I catch a few other shows on the Networks, but it's those sows I just listed that I make sure I catch.

Then it's off to USA, who's worst show is still pretty awesome!

Ok, I can't really say much about it since I don't have TV have never watched most of the shows on their network, but the CW is the channel that puts out; Hellcats, The Vampire Diaries, One Tree Hill, Gossip Girl, and that new 90210 show right?

I mean I watch Supernatural via (legal) downloads and it's rather awesome, and I didn't much care for the first several seasons of Smallville but things can certainly pick up ... but are all the rest of those shows actually well done or is it a case of a couple reeealy good shows making up for a bunch of lousy ones?

Friday Night Lights started there, IIRC, but a good generalization is CW is made for teenagers.

That's debatable..

As it turns out the powers that be also thought the updated costume sucked.
Odds that the next go at a WW-[whatever] features a lot more skin with the outfit...I'm looking at you Lynda Carter..

Well for what's it worth I didn't say the exact number of years - I only said "30+ years" that time so I guess it's up to you if you want to drink to that or not. On the other hand you might want to save that drink for the NEXT time there's a chance for a Wonder Woman TV series. It looks like NBC finally decided to give up on this attempt to get her back on TV.

It's unfortunate because even though I never had all that much faith in Kelley's pilot I still think it would have been better to have had the character back on TV even if only for a little while. At this point she's not only a character that hasn't been on TV for decades but she's ALSO a character that they failed to get back on TV as recently as 2011. That's pretty much a double-strike against there ever being a GOOD Wonder Woman series at this point. Oh well.

Actually Kelley's Wonder Woman was supposed to end up in the classic "swimming suit" costume by the end of this pilot. Those are pictures we haven't seen yet and now may never see. Clearly the problems with the new versions of the costume didn't help the chances for this show, but I think there was more going "wrong" with it than that. *shrugs*
