Discussion: Withstand the Praetorian Surge!
for all who havent heard, the highest amount of concurrent users they had was 4000 as shown here so the badge is enabled till next tuesday for all who dont have it yet
Odd, I was involved in this event for the majority of the evening, and had little to no issues when it comes to lag... and my system is NOT top of the line. I DC-ed twice, but while actually playing, I couldn't complain.
The key, is to spread out to many different zones and instances of zones as the Community Reps instructed. I was in St. Martial 2 and loving it throughout the evening. |
Hundreds of players comments that i had access to through chat channels ALL complained of the slideshow like lag.
Its not on the players end or necessarily related to the individuals pc, when in game items such as traffic & npcs stop moving completely, and the server is unable to tel when your powers are properly recharged, its most definately on the servers end.
The league i was on was mostly in founders 1, a handful of us including myself in founders 2 with not many players.
It was not fun, fluid or fast paced action as a super hero mmo should be.
The main concern as it appeared from the devs was the number of players they could cram on, not the quality of the experience, which will not bring people to these events.
Log on a test bot on Freedom about 9:10pm Friday and it was nothing but a slide show in Atlas. Could not move or anything then something kill me. I hope they find the data they need for this test and can improve things.
While, technically, you probably could have gone to a less populated zone and experienced no problems, most folks were naturally draw to wherever they could find the action. For the most part, the lag was most prominent where there was a high concentration of players - which is to be expected...
What DID catch me by surprise, was the pigg file crash that I experienced.

So, it was kind of fun. When I was in KR the game was still playable, there wasn't all that much lag (only a second or two delay), and my ping was relatively low. Once I moved in to Atlas on the other hand the ping jumped sharply, the lag became terrible and I crashed twice.
KR was a fun though.

Pocket D 4 got boned- Cole came into the room to give the titles but there was no second dev so no codes were given out... No explanation, nothing.

Yes, they finally got around to using this badge artwork. As Freedom hit 4,000 concurrent users, you should be able to get it by logging on for this weekend (including Monday).

I had a whole bunch of fun. Spent most of the event in Kings Row taunting Black Swan and War Witch, then having an absolutely hilarious time with whoever was playing Nightstar, minimal lag there - even when we had War Workers spawned on our heads and everything else she threw at us.
Atlas was extremely laggy, but if anyone remembers the Recluse's Victory event way back when, the lag suffered last night was only a fraction of that - and with over 4,000 people taking part, I was impressed. No it wasn't playable, but it was so much better than things have been in the past.
But most of all, it was fun. The devs/GMs/players were all having a laugh, I loved that an awful, awful lot of the banter was ad-libbed - but I would like to know who the invisible Incarnate hiding at the entrance to RV was, who slapped me with hand clap after I kindly asked them not to hit me.
Was in Talos all evening, minimal lag until the final push when we were well outnumbered by Cole's chumps.
Was way more fun than previous events, for me anyway. Hit Pocket D 10 afterward, cgs to those who got the Steampunk packs!
Just wish i'd been playing that blaster toon recently but hadn't been on since just before i20. Would've liked to see what i could've done if i'd been fully slotted with incarnate goodness. I know it makes a difference on the defender i've been playing of late over on Justice.
Hi everyone.
We announced that on May 27th, 2011, for a few hours (4-7 PM Pacific), you can log in to the Freedom server and get a badge that will apply to every character on your entire account. We understand that not everyone can be there that night, but we have a very serious goal to test some server improvements; so here's what we are doing: We have a goal of exceeding our highest ever peak concurrent users on a single server, which is 3500 players. But we might not be able to make that, so we will at least settle for 2500. If we get 2500 concurrent players on the Freedom server on May 27th between the hours of 4PM and 7PM Pacific, we will leave the badge on for the rest of the holiday weekend (May 27th through May 30th) on *ALL* European and North American servers. We timed this event to coincide with the greatest typical number of concurrent players worldwide to give the most people possible the chance to get the badge. If you don't have a character on Freedom, you can simply create one and log in to get the badge. If you can't make it on the 27th or over the Memorial weekend, we will absolutely give you another opportunity to get the badge in a few months. If you DO get the badge this weekend, youll have some measure of exclusivity for a few months, maybe enough exclusivity to get you to log in real quick before you hit the hay or hit the clubs. And we want to ensure that this badge is prestigious, so the next opportunity will be a limited-time window as well, though longer than three hours to be sure. When we run this event, we will be able to open the server queue wider than we have ever been able in the past (maybe even turn it off) and we think we can get a ridiculous number of you on Freedom all at the same time, more than we have ever been able to support. We've made some server optimizations that will make it possible to run our servers more efficiently for the future and hold *way* more players on any piece of hardware; this improvement will help us continue to support City of Heroes efficiently for the future. One of the smartest guys I've ever had the pleasure to know has been working insanely hard on this for months, and we want to ensure that he can go back to actually getting sleep at night, comfortable that his hard work has paid off. You don't even have to stick around and fight off the Praetorian invasion: logging in during the window will grant the badge, and you can log out and go back to your home server. But maybe if you stick around and get into a group, you'll help reach the goal and have some fun at the same time. Imagine seeing more versions of Atlas Park than you have ever been seen before! |
If this has been answered I apologize but I have multiple accounts and it would take me forever to log in with all my toons on all accounts.
I have a question about the above Quoted Material. If you weren't able to log in during the event BUT where able to log in during Memorial Day Weekend (which I have); Does the badge still go account wide or do I have to log in with all my toons?

i make stuff...
These events, hami raids, mothership raids & trials would all be great fun, if not for the server lag. Its about time server upgrades became a priority.
