We need some kind of portable tailor.

After realizing how many costumes changes I make, it's really becoming a pain to walk. So, I wonder what it would be like if we had some sort of veteran's or badge reward to automatically use the tailor from anywhere. Like say, a power to place down a device that allows costume customization, just like the portable invention table. Or, maybe, a slash command, like the new /auctionhouse command for 84 Month veterans. What do you guys think?

This is where something more interesting than my global and this sentence would be.

Portable, no. SG item, yeah.

While it won't work for changing the costume you're currently wearing, you can use the Character creator in the Mission Architect. If you earn the Mission Engineer badge, you can access it from everywhere--complete with fully-functional costume creator.

/signed A while back this idea surfaced and I think it would be a great addition to SG bases. I'd also like to see a mini console in bases that gives members access to Wentworths/Black Market.

What is the advantage to these two ideas?

Offers more services to the SG members all in one spot

1a. With the addition of a market interface SG members would have everything they need to craft in one spot. A Vault to store extra salvage, Crafting table to build IO enhancements, Storage for enhancements crafted but not needed immediately and added access to the Markets allows members to purchase salvage or recipes and/or sell salvage, recipes or crafted enhancements.

1b. Addition of a mini tailor shop similar to what we see in the RWZ.... no actual shop just an NPC tailor to click on while allow members at any level and in any zone with a portal to alter outfits without the necessary trip to Steel, IP, or FF(Hero side) Cap, St M (Villain Side) or the RWZ / Pocket D (either side).

What it does for COH and the Devs...

1. The addition of the Tailor will allow SG members to design costumes in bases and cut down on the lag in zones whenever new powers or new costume pieces are released. Spreading that rush of players out to more locations would help reduce lag and keep the players happy.

2. Again adding a WW/BM interface in bases eliminates LAG. Anyone that has been in Talos on a weekend in the prime playing hours knows how bad lag can get there. In that one spot you have WW, the train, The zone trainer (Luminary) and the TF contact (Citadel). To add to the lag anytime there is a Rikti or Zombie invasion where do the teams gather to fight? The hill side right across from WW and the train.. CAN YOU SAY.............. LAG!

Now let's really open things up a bit with this idea. Currently most base items are only available to SG members and some to Coalition members. Let's expand that to include any member on a team run by that SG. Then let's do away with some of the restrictions and make all of the following to all those listed (Sg member, Coaltion member, and Team member):

Auto Doc .. ability to purchase Respites and Catch a Breath at any time including TF/Trial and to sell Salvage and recipes.

Combat Logs.. Ability to purchase Break frees

IO Crafting tables .. OBVIOUS allowing players to carft IO enhancements

IO Vault .. storage of IO salvage

Teleport chambers .. presently the only item on this list that team members CAN use. Then add in the new WW/BM interface and the new tailor and your base just became a one stop shopping mart for most thing players need. It also allows all those players to do those things in a base and away from the usual spots.. once again reducing lag considerably.

These days we have countless players with Base teleporters from Vet rewards and even more that can obtain one simply by anging out in the right day job locations. By making these additions and changes anyone with a teleporter can be in their base, or the base of the team leader, quickly from anywhere in any zone and access all of these services.

Okay while I am fantasizing, since I sort of doubt any of this will ever come true, let's add one more thing...

A TRAINER This could be as simple as a small computer cosole that players can activate to train after leveling or an NPC like the vangaurd drill instructor that stands next to lady Grey in their base. Same reasons obviously apply.. adds another service the base can provide to players and Eliminates more lag in areas like TALOS or Atlas Park.

Gee, lets eliminate every place where players gather in a public now. Well I guess only losers who don't belong to a SG with a completely furnished base will gather there now.

Anyone else miss a city full of heroes (or villains)? Flying, jumping, porting or simply running about to and fro. Giving you an opportunity to make friends or scope out neat costumes and names? It's a flippin graveyard now as it is with the exception of WW/BM and tailors locations.

Hey lets just give everyone all the contacts cell numbers up front so you won't even have to travel to see them ... EVER! Make it a vet power.

Hell, just go to Pocket D or the RWZ, depending on server.

Sucks if you're not 50 these days, though. Did a quick search on one of the servers earlier. 50 people listed at the time. 46 of them were 50, and in Pocket D or in an Incarnate Farm... er, Raid. One was 49. One was 12. Two were in the mid-20s. Had that happen during a Rikti raid, as well - my mid-teen Controller had three Rikti raids to choose from... all to herself. yeah... no.

Edit: It's another reason I'll usually argue against adding more zones (well, other than something non-trashy for villainside.) Praetoria makes sense to have them, yes, but our population is so spread out (other than gathering for Incarnate Farms) it seems a bit bare at times.

I agree completely. Makes it seem like no one is around. One of the reasons I have missed feelings on the new Train/Ferry changes.

Soooo the fact that any major leveling content was in instances didn't already do it . . the tailors, ferries, oroborous, vet teleportation powers, vip teleporter, and base teleporters only made it easy to get around. Unless you were someone who liked showing off your costume or a catgirl in atlas, most folks are in missions.

I don't see how adding some sort of portable tailor would be bad.

EDIT: When I'm at the tailor I'm not chatting or looking at my chat box. And honestly once I'm done I go do my mission, I don't stand around shooting the breeze. I've got villains to arrest/robberies to commit.

I honestly see more chat going on on GLOBAL CHANNELS than I do see in the game world that NEVER, EVER had any reason to stand around in.

Personally, I've never felt the need to see thousands of heroes flying about. It makes everyone all the more insignificant the more I'm reminded that I'm just a face in the crowd out of zillions of other heroes out there.

My main pet suggestion is to get more costume slots per character to work with in the first place. My theory is that if we had more slots to use there'd probably be -less- need for the tailors in the first place because they're be fewer people having to constantly go back to swap costumes back and forth.

Anyway, for what it's worth, I don't have any problem with ALSO having some kind of Vet award or SG version of a tailor either.

See, this is the kind of thing I can easily see as a veteran reward. It doesn't really add any specific in-game advantage, it just gives a basic convenience which, if handed out to all people ever, would corrupt what I feel is a good element of the game.

I see no reason to disagree here.

It's almost like the game's some kind of multiplayer thing.

No thank you. This simply isn't much of a quality of life issue when there's now access to a tailor literally not more than one monorail ride away for heroes. Thanks to access to the Vanguard base, which had its level entry requirements removed, even the lowliest Atlas Park newbie can visit a tailor without risk of aggro. (Red side is marginally more difficult starting out in Mercy, but after that, it's on a par with blue side.)

A tailor teleport as a vet reward might work if it were on a timer like the others and transported the player to one of the existing tailors. As long as players are still circulating in the game at the regular places, player convenience and community dynamics should be balanced.

I don't mean a teleport to the tailor, as that would have the benefits of transportation as well as costume changing. I mean the ability to edit your costume, including height, at any place and at any time you so desire, just from the Costume window, for the same fee, of course. This, then, wouldn't need to be limited.

In fact, I wouldn't be opposed for this convenience costing double or triple fee just to give people a reason to visit the tailors anyway.

We don't really need a TP power to get us to a tailor. We already have portable workbenches, remote AE consoles, and now with the latest Vet award access to the markets remotely. After all that the idea of getting a remote tailor console doesn't really seem all that far-fetched to me. And none of these other "conveniences" cost any more to use than the "real" thing so I see no reason a remote Tailor would have to cost extra either. *shrugs*

I understand your proposal and appreciate your reasons for it. I was suggesting a teleporter as an alternative as a compromise between providing convenience for individual players and maintaining an actively circulating community. (Perhaps there are some Paragon fashionistas who, disdaining trips to Icon where the cape and spandex hoi poli purchase their off-the-rack costumes, would prefer the personalized option of bespoke tailoring, but to those, I would simply point out Paragon's unusually democratic approach to superheroic uniforms, even at the cost of mismatched pieces and clashing colors.)

City of Instances, for such a great MMO community, peculiarly is one of the most "hidden" in its game world. Providing its playerbase with even fewer opportunities to circulate (such as an SG tailor console) would detract from one of its greatest strengths.

I maaay be slightly off here cause I'm really not following here, but here it goes:

I really don't see how anyone could POSSIBLY have a problem with some sort of more convienient costume changing. I think that the idea of the SG base item would be great personally, it makes the base into everything you'll need along with the new vet /command. Teleporters, markets, storage, invention tables, and, possibly, a tailor. As Wendy said, it's everything you'll need with no lag.

Also I love my Architect Comlink, /auctionhouse, and invention mini table, all that is missing is a tailor, so I figure that'd also work too, staying for 5 minutes like the table, than exploding, but the costume change window stays open. That's something I can picture us having.

I'd be quite happy to swap the 84 month Vet reward for one that opened up the Tailoring screen instead. Make it a choice, like the Vet attacks and everybody would be happy.*

I disagree, there are 3 tailors shops Blue side, 2 red side, 1 in Pocket D(VIP Access), and 1 in RWZ. That is plenty of tailors.

I'd rather see the Tailors show up on a tab in the contacts list. That way I know which tailor mission I need to do on my characters for the costume slot. Because you always forget one. Also those that play one side more than the other, can easily find the tailors. (like broker and detectives they never offer a phone)

So? We got invention tables in Croatoa, Steel Canyon, Founder's Falls, and RWZ, but we still got a portable version of those.

Same with the market, we got one in Talos, Steel, and Atlas Park, and we still got a portable version.

And the biggest, AE! There is one in almost EVERY SINGLE ZONE! Yet, there is a portable version of that too.

If anything, it seems tailors would next in line.

Not to mention the fact that we already have one of those - the Pocket D VIP Pass takes you to within a few yards of Trina.

And please, do NOT make extra costume slots a Vet reward unless they are retroactively rewarded for every 18 months or two years of Vet status.
