Powers We Like Too Much
Avoid airfields. The planes seem to be flying quite low.
EDIT: Then again, you may enjoy that. It gives the semblance of animated hair.
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.
Black Pebble is my new hero.
I have to add, any of the archery powers my archery/ice blaster (who is a tiny fairy) uses on GMs.
"How did she fire an arrow bigger than she is?"
"I don't know but it was AWESOME!"
Another favorite: Walk. Right after some dimwit Speed Boosts me in the market. I just walk around them until it wears off, and go back to doing what I was doing.
Where to find me after the end:
The Secret World - Arcadia - Shinzo
Rift - Faeblight - Bloodspeaker
LotRO - Gladden - Aranelion
STO - Holodeck - @Captain_Thiraas
Obviously, I don't care about NCSoft's forum rules, now.
You want to know the secret of the world? It's this: Save it, and it'll repay you, every second of every day.
@Dr. Reverend - My DeviantArt Gallery
Crow Call - Gods of the Golden Age
/trap Poison Trap. Nothing like watching every single enemy in the game throw up their lunch...
Stygian Circle
Gale
Ninja Run
Super Speed
Another add: any of the Snipe powers that enable me to spontaneously yell "BOOM! HEADSHOT!"
...I like making sound effects.
In my mind, Ninja Run sounds like the hamsters from the cartoon Hamtaro running, which I can't find a video clip of, but which sounds like "baddabaddabaddabadda..."
Hmm, let's see...
- Ahh yes. Lightning Rod. There's nothing quite like dissolving into a bolt of lightning and teleporting into the middle of a spawn to lay waste to them in the mere act of reappearing. Especially if you can follow it up with Shield Charge for the added bugs on windshield effect.
- Also, Shadow Meld. Because what sneaky villainous type doesn't like being able to turn into a cloud of creepy black stuff at will.
- And from the same pool, Soul Storm. For much the same reasons as has already been mentioned.
- Staying with patron pools, Mu Lightning or Mu Bolts depending on AT. Because bzzzap.
- Hmm, what else... Oh yes. Static Shield, from elec armor. Just cause when set to dark colours and coloured right it looks really damn creepy.
- Wormhole. That's really all that needs to be said. Also, if you drop them high enough they'll actually bounce when they hit the ground.
- Full Auto and to a lesser extent the spider's Heavy Burst, for when you absolutely must throw as many bullets in one general direction as possible in short order.
- Rain of Arrows for much the same reason, although has the added awesome of somehow penetrating walls, ceilings, etc to fire. I always wondered how my archery blaster does that. Then I remembered she's magic origin and that explained it.
- All three pets in the Robotics set, because two of them enter and all three of them will leave by punching holes through whatever obstacle might happen to be above you.
- Staying with masterminds for a second, the Thugs Bruiser pet cause he cruises up to you on a motorcycle which then proceeds to poof into thin air somehow.
- Fallout, obviously. Because what else are you going to do with the corpse of a teammate if not use them as a thermonuclear weapon.
- Dark Extraction, because using it on AVs provokes hilarious reactions from unsuspecting teammates on occasion.
- Recall Friend, for the exact same reason. Though that's usually reserved for people who annoyed me first.
- Black and White Dwarf, because who doesn't like being a big stompy alien monster.
- Rise of the Phoenix, because my blaster once killed someone with it in a pvp arena match and the reaction over skype was priceless. Also general boominess and the whole getting back up from the dead thing. Soul Transfer for much the same reason, minus the pvp kill.
- Ice Slick and to a lesser extent Ice Patch, becau- *slips and falls over* Bonus awesome against Clockwork (The primal ones, that is.) cause instead of knocking them over it flings them in all directions for no apparent reason.
- Boost Range, because nothing beats sniping a guy from so far away you need a second player to spot for you as they aren't targettable on your screen. Note: requires range slotting in the snipe or huge recharge buffs to stack it twice. Possibly both. Minus the IOs or buffs there's still being able to shoot something from snipe range with a normal power.
- Cosmic Burst, because it's a mez and a kickass attack in the same power. With HOs and IOs combined you can even slot it effectively for both. Also Total Focus. Knockout Blow, Seismic Smash (Which is also mag 4 and all, unless you're a Dominator.) and Incandescent Strike for the same reason.
- Jolting Chain, because watching enemies flop over in succession is hilarious.
- Crane Kick, because boot to the head. Or the nuts, or the chest, or the kneecaps... depending on relative size. Actually most of the martial arts set for this reason.
- Placate, because some part of all of us secretly wants to be a Jedi.
...ok, I think I'm done. And I think I understand why I'm still here after four years, now.
[Admin] Emperor Marcus Cole: STOP!
[Admin] Emperor Marcus Cole: WAIT ONE SECOND!
[Admin] Emperor Marcus Cole: WHAT IS A SEAGULL DOING ON MY THRONE!?!?
Another one I just thought of. Super Speed + Combat Jumping!
WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE E!
I'll agree with previous votes for Foot Stomp, Fly, Rise of the Phoenix, Jolting Chain. A few others for your consideration.
Soul Drain - especially on a Rikti mission. Room full of monkeys with a LT or boss in the middle. Herd em up, Soul Drain, all monkeys are dead, you're super-charged, and boss soils himself.
Jawbreaker - usually my wrench wielding tanker makes contact somewhat lower than the jaw. Spanner to the groin? That's just gotta hurt.
Best use of a mediocre power: Air Superiority
Ran the villain cape mission with a teammate and Doc Quantum shows up with a gang of PPD. I start in on the police, teammate taunts Doc Quantum and flies for the height cap. A few seconds later, named boss crashes to the ground in front of me with one HP. Strategy has been reproduced a few times on outdoor maps against flying bosses/EBs. At higher levels it seldom reduces them to one HP, but it does make the fights much easier.
My short list of favorite powers
-Lightning Rod- Because teleporting into a bunch bad guys with a huge lightning strike while remaining invisible is just awesome
-Ion judgement
-Gang War
-Bruiser's Motorcycle
-Elixir of Life- well because nothing is more funny than seeing your teammates hurl on the enemy
That vet power Nemesis Staff. Invaluable at lower levels, I seem to end up leaning on it far too much, along with Sands OF Mu; it allows me to put off grabbing attack-chain powers and to go for controls, (de)buffs, etc. earlier. For example, my Bots/Dark MM still has it in her tray at 47th and uses it more often than her End bar appreciates. On toons with both of those powers, I've occasionally tired myself out with those two. Bad habit, I know.
Hand clap. I LOVE IT!
No one pays attention to me, cause I listen to the voices in my head.
Executioner's Shot - it's a thing of vicious beauty
Hurl/Handclap/Footstomp - no other powers in the game quite embody what a set is better than these three do
Stone Spears - have you seen that animation? awesome
Wormhole - it's raining men!, or alternatively, I'll save you Mr. Tanker by adding more fuel for RTTC/Invinc
Superjump - some people like fly, I think it's boring as hell, but I still get butterflies in my stomach when I come over the apex of a jump and begin hurtling towards the ground
Eagle's Claw - because it's so pretty, and you get to kick a badguy's forehead out the back of his skull
Dull Pain - because I'm a sadist and enjoy popping it just before the enemy is about to kill me and shouting "FOOLED YOU!" all Dark Helmet style at my monitor as I heal for 1500 hp
Assassin Strike (for Broad Sword) - now that's how you stab someone in the back!
And among powers that enemies get, there are few things as cool in this game as fighting the large clockwork bosses and taking their big backhand slap to the jaw and being sent flying backwards across the room. One of the few cases where being knocked back doesn't bother me one bit.
Oh god I forgot: LRM!!!

Fly: My costumed superheroes just don't quite seem truly superheroic unless they're flying. My wish list has 'make flight useful for melees' on it.
Hover: Because they should also be flying even when taking on the bad guys. I love hoverblasting. "Up here, *****!"
Energy Torrrent: When I first build my EM/EM many many moons ago, the guide I was using warned me against it. I wound up putting it in when I respec'd her for inherent fitness. Her next mission I discovered just what I was missing. Bowling For Council!
(I owe Samuraiko a Coke.)
Power Thrust: Handy when you need to get a pesky minion far far away. Or when you just feel like sending Skulls flying across Atlas Park.
Rain of Fire, Irradiate, Burn, Fistful of Arrows: There's nothing quite as cathartic than watching mass quantities of orange numbers floating up from targets.
Assassin's Blade: OK, so can one-shotting a lt. or boss.
Assault Rifle in general: Because I too paired it up with a tiny fairy. And just wait for when she picks up Munitions...
Rise of the Phoenix: So I get my very own personal res with heal, damage, and knockback?
The T3 Void Judgement with Knockback: See above, only I don't have to die and I don't get the heal, but who cares? Fire it off right after Follow-Up and Spin and BLAMMO. Bodies, bodies everywhere!
Along that note, and my last one: The T3 Cardiac with 45% End Reduc: Or how one power completely revitalized interest in my Night Widow.
One of my absolute favorite powers is Burst from Kinetic Melee. I've absolutely loved it since the first time I used it when beta testing the power set, and it's a big part of why I use the set. I just wish it had a bigger area of effect.
Positron: "There are no bugs [in City of Heroes], just varying degrees of features."
Even though I rarely play this toon I love the power, Fearsome Stare in my Dark Blast/Dark Miasma/Soul Corruptor. I love seeing a group of supposedly big tough guys shake in fear, especially when I am fighting CoT and I use it on a Behemoth Lord and he is shaking in fear, I mean he is supposed to be a scary demon and he is shaking in his loin cloth, makes me laugh.
Cancel the kitchen scraps for widows and lepers, no more merciful beheadings and call off christmas!
Hail of Bullets = Equilibrium FTW.
And Ive always been a fan of Rise of the Phoenix.
Was this in the match against my scrapper? In all the sheer fiery death you rained down upon me from your lofty seat at the ceiling I don't recall. It all blurs into a massive, glowy, orange, pain.
|
Also that reminds me of another power I like: Hover. Because haha, you can't hit me if I'm all the way up here but I can still hit you! Enjoy your fireballs!
[Admin] Emperor Marcus Cole: STOP!
[Admin] Emperor Marcus Cole: WAIT ONE SECOND!
[Admin] Emperor Marcus Cole: WHAT IS A SEAGULL DOING ON MY THRONE!?!?
I understand it's an easy mistake to make.
As for my favorite, it has to be that Report Post button. I just seem to love it as a click power.
