I'm totally with youu on that, Michelle.
Just wanted to take a second to thank everyone who contributed to this thread. Yes, even you, G.G. Do you realized how many twists and turns this took, about writing, character development, game design, movies, comics, then back to the game again? All because we were talking about the non-existent relationship between two COMPUTER GAME characters? I totally love all of you fracking weirdo pervs. I only wish I could contribute to the forums more but, frankly, they've put a web filter up at work to block sites that are even remotely "fun" or "interesting". Hell I'm lucky if I can go to Club Penguin at the office anymore (note: I have never actually played Club Penguin. Thank you.) But yeah, spending 20 minutes going through a roller coaster of shouting, debating, discussing, and virtual high-fiving are why I still play this game and want to continue supporting the CoX community at large. Oh and G.G.? I've got to meet you...virtually of course. I'll even bring my wife along in case you get nervous (note: I do SO have a wife and she does SO play...and has the 50s to prove it!). See y'all in Paragon City (and sometimes the Rogue Isles)... |
As to why *I* contributed to this thread - one, I am one of the folks who gives a damn about storyline and canon and all that... and two, coz I wanted to see if anyone else thought this was completely out of left field because I was afraid it would wreck my books.

Unless there's some place they're telling new character advancement stories that I don't know about, anytime they add new content would be when to reveal "so and so like each other!"
That said, I don't think this thread has done anything to say one way or the other in which way it actually is, and more of a "Well I like the idea of them as couple" or "Meh I don't".

I know it's hard to tell on teh interwebz, but no...I was NOT being sarcastic. I meant every word.
Listen, I (literally) have over 30,000 comics in my collection. While I certainly know the difference between reality and fantasy, hold a professional job, boast a college degree, etc., characters like Superman, Batman, et al are as real to me (in their way) as my wife, doggie, parents and friends.
Every incarnation. The Superman of the 1940's is both different and similar to the Superman of 2011. James Kirk and the crew of the Enterprise have had a retcon (or alternate timeline) between their introduction in 1966 and 2009. Hell Batman had to leap through time when everyone was SURE he was dead, then when he came back he completely changed everything by nearly letting his secret identity out...ON PURPOSE.
What I'm saying is every good, lasting character has multiple versions, each equally valid in their own times, for their own purposes. While I too like to haggle and debate the intricacies of my favorite imaginary beings, I've always felt it better to take the concept as a whole. Otherwise, MY Superman would've flown away along with the Moore/Gibbons story "What Ever Happened To The Man of Steel?".
Embrace change, celebrate diversity. It's all right. It's all wrong. It just depends on your point of view.
No, Michelle, I don't think this new information is going to wreck your books. Who says it didn't really happen your way anyhow?
Now someone gimme a chair to throw. WOOOOO!

Well the Positron/Numina story about the Praetorian Invasion certainly puts an exclamation point instead of a question mark on this thread title.

The Abrams is one of the most effective war machines on the planet. - R. Lee Ermy.
Q: How do you wreck an Abrams?
A: You crash into another one.
I was coming here to rage about Positron's wife but I guess I was misremembering Luminary's bio. It's Kit's wife, not Positron.
The original Luminary is Kit Rafter. He retired from the Freedom Phalanx in 1995 to become the spokesperson for Hero Corps. At his wedding, Positron presented Kit and his new wife Jeanette with the ultimate wedding present: a new android modeled after Jeanette with powers similar to Kit's. This next-generation heroine was the new Luminary, carrying on Kit's fine tradition under the watchful eye of Bastion. Her systems were all more advanced than Bastion's, making her the state of the art in android technology. The new Luminary has recently shown signs of developing a strong personality. It has caused Positron some concern that it seems similar to Jeanette's. He has performed many tests on her but has not determined the cause. |

As far as Positron and Numina, I'm sort of Meh to the whole thing. Numina is a bit of a cypher. Her story is pretty undeveloped beyond her origin story, but you can say that about 80% of the characters in the game.
As far as Michelle's story, well, True Love seldom runs a straight and steady course.
Maybe Michelle never planned for or wanted to believe that Sorina and Raymond wouldn't last forever. There are ways to deal. "Course 1/2" are set in the "past" regarding this news and there is no conflict. Conflicts are coming and Michelle writes them in. The conflict is ignored as taking place in the universe next door. The conflict is hinted at, much like this strike force mainly just hints at the possibility. Sorina would not be the first woman who discovered that her partner had actually been carrying a torch a long time for another woman that he had sublimated his feelings for because he thought she was unattainable. Hollywood loves that kind of story.
*shrug* You deal and move on, or you ignore it and move on.

I hope that the I20 STF and this new bit of fiction might be the start of Positron and Numina having a more prominent role in the game.

It's enough that there's one high-profile couple in the Freedom Phalanx already. (Two if you count the Positron-Synapse bromance.) Maybe we'll find out that Statesman is secretly dating all of the available young women in the Vindicators when the next new task force requires rescuing Swan, Mynx, Luminary, Aurora, and Valkyrie from their Praetorian admirers.
Hey, they are not my characters, but given the ham-handed way (complete with leaden writing) that the Manticore/Sister Psyche romance was handled, I cannot say that I am enthused about the new reveal. I expect to wince yet again as the story unfolds.
As is typically the case, D_R's stuff will likely wind up smoking this, too.
"How do you know you are on the side of good?" a Paragon citizen asked him. "How can we even know what is 'good'?"
"The Most High has spoken, even with His own blood," Melancton replied. "Surely we know."

Not to mention being bloody incorporal.

At the coffee talk D-R got a splaination from Posi that there were many others involved in the decision...and I still want to see a video of him reading the word, Numitron. I can just imagine his eyes bulging from the incoming facepalm.

I think a romance like this one deserves a rock opera to put it in the proper perspective. At the very least a musical episode.
