Halloween again? Seriously?
It's a compensation for the lengthy server downtown a couple days ago.
So basically they are saying 'This is what you get for hassling us about the server downtimes'?
And I thought the devs were push-overs.

Not from what I saw tonight. The only chatter on the globals concerning Halloween were mostly complaints about the lack of street mobs because of the Deadly Apocalypses. The few folks engaged in doing Halloween stuff where also complaining: about the lack of ToT groups.
At least they recycled Manticore this week and not Numina.
Happy Halloween!

"We're sorry the downtime on Thursday went on so long that the EU players lost pretty much a day's worth of play. In exchange, have an annoying raid event with toxic damage, a lot of -to hit, and a zone event that unless you have a large team is pretty much unwinnable."
At least it isn't the winter event again. I'm hoping not to see that for a long time, seeing as how it dragged on so much.
You're all absolutely right.
Next time when the devs have to do a lengthy downtime to fix an accidental server rollback, they should just either A) Not fix the server rollback and let their players deal with losing stuff they gained the previous day, or B) tell them to suck it when they're upset about losing a whole day of playtime.
Yes, those would be MUCH better ways of handling it than giving us a weekend of an event normally only available to do 2 weeks a year as an apology.

And telling people they are so wrong to not find certain things fun makes eeeeverything better. Yup yup. They are obviously all ungrateful horrible people with no souls.
Added for those who don't recognise sarcasm when it slaps them in the face
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

Calm down.

You cannot please some people regardless of what you do

I'm just saying, the devs screwed up and acknowledged it, so they did something they thought would be nice as a form of apology.
And people got bent out of shape that they had the audacity to apologize for something.
If they hadn't fixed it, or left the extra long downtime unaddressed, people would have been pissed about that too.
I guess they just can't win.

I was happy with just 'sorry, database snafu. Working on getting it online.' If they wanted to do a token gesture of goodwill, 1 day of game time added to accounts (which they've done in the past) would have been token-y enough.
Instead I've had 2 out of 3 evenings spending up to half an hour fighting off the mindless dead, a task that isn't really exciting. It's more annoying, especially as it disrupts my chosen form of entertainment in game (Zone-based outdoor social RP).
You may think 'Half an hour at most isn't much' but it disrupts my train and setting of thought, breaks the flow of roleplaying, and the inevitable questions of undead in April come up. Thankfully genre savvy characters have been there to shrug it off with 'A Wizard Did It'. For another player who is currently on shift work, it eats away at a huge chunk of their available playtime.
I'm a bad person for not being placated (when I had no need to be) by the flicking of an event switch (that I grow tired of when it's in its usual form at its usual time).

But, as I said, they're never going to be able to please everyone, so they - presumably - took the option that they thought would please the largest number of people.
To claim that someone is a "bad person" for disagreeing with the general consensus is almost always a stupid thing to do, however, the in this case the OP did state their case in a slightly over-aggressive manner, which probably set the tone for what could have been a rather more civil thread.

Technically the devs didnt have to give us anything, theyd idnt even have to give us a sorry but they did and an event.

Definitely wasn't too happy about the Halloween event as compensation for the servers being down so long. I'm not fond of the Halloween event in the first place, so I'd rather they just did nothing. I realize I'm probably in the minority though.
Although if the percentage of people who complain about the holiday events here on the forums is a representative sample of the entire game population, then there's probably a lot of people out there who aren't real happy about it either.
I guess my point is that if they wanted to make it up to us for the servers being down so long, there's better ways they could have gone about it.
Trick or treat!

Not sure if anyone else realizes this, but if your character has the Alpha slot unlocked......the zombies in the zone invasion drop Incarnate Shards, at what appears to be a slightly elevated rate (I got 4 in about 10 minutes of fighting them with 2 other people)

I got a 'Halloween Tip'. Never seen one before. Got a badge and a reward and saw a cool map.
Then I went Trick or Treating and got phat lootz. Then I tried to see how long I could hold off spawns at a banner.
I think for 3 days, it's a great little surprise.
Personally, I was very pleased.
BTW, anyone else got Halloween Tips? When were these added? Is there anywhere to get info on them? I tried paragon wiki...
The Halloween Tip was added last year - it's a special Tip, so it can still drop even if you have 3 Tips already.
Here's the Paragonwiki page:

It has 7 badges attached to it.

Of course, I tried searching the wiki for Halloween Tip. Forgot that the search function like specific mission titles... uggg.
This is what happens when I take a year off.

You can get a badge for each choice you make at the end of the mission, though trusting and Arriviste are mutually exclusive.
I enjoyed the heck out of it, thanks devs...
I liked the event, but I can see why it would annoy some people seeing as it can be disruptive to normal playstyle. Double XP would have made more sense IMHO - the only people I've ever seen complaining about it are forum lurkers who don't actually play the game.
Why the frak is it Halloween this time?
Is there some sort of moronic 'Halloween in Spring!' meme going around back in the States like the tired-old 'Christmas in July' idea?
At least tell me it wont go on for a whole month like all the other events do in this game.
