Fastest ITF?
What with needing shards I figure bragging about how fast you can run an ITF is like bragging about how fast you can have sex.
With the incarnate stuff out why would anyone want to do a speed ITF? Barring of course that it might be the WST and you want to cycle as many toons through it as possible. or it is late at night and you need to get to sleep.

normally i support non speed tfs, but that badge was ridiculous and i just want it over with (only need 2 more runs for 50 extra tf runs now)
How about a Quarterfield. Getting under an hour would be impressive.
The first step in being sane is to admit that you are insane.

How about Mo Runs?

One person gets to sit beside the contact for all but the last mission (alternately, the leader dual-boxes and leaves the spare character at the contact). One character (at least) should have Fly, and Recall, and know their way around the Shard very well (including when to drop of a ledge for a shortcut back to a zone entrance). The remainder of the team is a mix of good damage and better buffs and debuffs.

I've done the ITF so many times the last thing I really want to do is plod through it, killing everything. In just over an hour, with a good team, we can get through an ITF, a LGTF and a Kahn, with enough shards, drops and reward merits to keep everyone happy.
One of the reasons I'm still playing CoH after five years is that there it is always throwing up different things to do. For me, currently, I like speed TF runs. On the server I play on - Defiant - lots of players like running TFs for shards, and they will get teams together for that purpose. I'm not forcing anyone to join a speed TF team.
It would seem you don't see the point of speed runs. Fair enough. Horses for courses. It is pleasing that there is room enough for all different types of players in-game. One of the reasons I'm still here after all these years!
Regarding Mo runs, I'm pretty sure the Apex time mentioned in the OP was an Mo run. Sometimes, we'll just set things for an Mo, do it as a normal speed run, and if no one dies, so be it.

Some time ago, I thought I was doing really well to get through the ITF in under an hour. Then I got interested in speed runs. I found a few like-minded souls on Defiant and we started getting faster. When we broke the 20 minute mark we thought it must be a game-wide record but no, on the US servers, they'd been faster. We got below 18 minutes but someone had got below 16 minutes. We managed it in 15m02s but there was a video on YouTube of a 14m45s run. We tried again. Can you beat 13m58s? |
It would be interesting for you guys to go back once everyone has all 10 incarnate slots filled and see how much you can improve on that 13:58.
There are only TF 2 times that I'm 'proud' of. One is the PuG ITF I did a couple of weeks back in 44 minutes (and some seconds). Not all that impressive for a speedrun. Except that it wasn't a speedrun. We did every mission from front to back not skipping anything, we even cleared most of the walls on lag hill.
No idea how common these sort of times are, but it is the fastest 'shardrun' that I've ever done by 10 minutes or so.
The other was an ATF we completed in 22minutes 22seconds. Again the fastest I did. We didn't have any debuffs. Team makeup was 1 tanker (the pitty spot ), 3 brutes, 3 blasters and a kin defender. Our damage output was rather impressive for a PuG.

you are wrong... in a 20 min ITF run you get 2-3 shard, in a half hour STF you net 4-5 shards..... so if you do a ITF/LGTF/STF combo you may end up with more shards than a normal ITF that will take the same time.... plus a lot more merits or components

Tin Mage / Apex / Kahn roughly 30 minutes each for a total of 1.5 hours = 110 Merits and a guarentee of 4 Shards, you will probably get more shards.
Now lets compare that combo to Quarterhell. No possiblity of Shards(currently), and add another 1.5+ hours for 12 more merits.
I think we have a winner.
Even just Co-Oping Tin Mage and Apex for 1 hour you get 80 merits and 4 guarenteed shards. Not bad.

If it weren't for speed runs my main badge hero would still be grinding that godawful Partner badge (thank carrots finished it yesterday). As it is, I just need to grind it on my main badge villain now. Here's hoping for more speed runs.

Guess what? Shards aren't the be all and end all of the game for me. But you can net an awful lot of them doing speed runs - as well as the usual end rewards/components. The reason I like to join Phil for his speed runs are that they are fun, its a chance to play with people who appreciate the game and have taken the time to optimise their characters. They have a wealth of information and advice on how to improve builds and become a more effective hero/villain.
I dont understand the negativity towards speed runs. If you are happy grinding through the game slowly, good for you. I prefer to grind through the game QUICKLY!!
Its a game, play it how you want to for fun.

I dont think Phil made it clear in the original post - the only times in that list where a concerted effort was made to go as fast as possible were for the ITF, STF and Apex runs - all the others were simply fun speedy runs. I expect if we put our minds to it all the times in the list could be easily beaten
I for one look forward to improving on them!! |

A few questions for your group about some of your TF's.
- First, did you use any temps? Of course even with all temps in the game, these are still amazing times, but was curious.
- Second, on the STF time, what was the team makeup? Again, any temps used?
- Also, what is the fastest MoSTF you've run (with settings enabled that is).
Your LGTF times are so out of sync with the rest; with the crazy times you have, I am sure your team can do LGTF sub 20 easily.
As a reference point, our group runs some of the fastest TF's on Virtue (note, not _the_ fastest, but some of the fastest), these are our corresponding times,
Tabulating versus your times, TF your time: our time,
- Apex 15m20s: 19m
- ITF 13m58s: 14m (only once, next was 17m)
- KahnTF 15m52s: 22m
- LGTF 23m31s: 20m
- STF 22m38s: 29m
- Tin Mage (missing your time): 23m
Nice work, really nice.
