  1. Not really been on the fora much these last few months.

    Time to say goodbye.

Arguably, I've spent too much time on this damned game - not as much as some, and more than others - since 1st January 2006.

To anyone who I have annoyed by speeding through a TF when they wanted to kill everything, I am sorry. I realised after a while that I just couldn't commit hours and hours to TFs. Speed runs were the answer! Whatever the question, speed runs are the answer.

To anyone who had to rez me when I jumped into a mob, tried to take the alpha, then died, thank you.

To my son, Angus (@Tuxedo Boy, then @Tux, then (with server merge) @Fail), who bought the game in July 2005 and begged me to play with him for months (I joined in Jan 2006) then helped me up the steep learning curve, then did all kinds of uber-builds for me using MIDS, then played with me for too many hours, then helped me learn how to do speed runs in most of the main TFs, then went to Uni and left the game behind (understandably), THANK YOU!

To my son, Leo (@Truth Serum, @TS) for teaming with me when he really wanted to be playing CoD. To my son, Teddy, for rolling one MM after another (and usually naming the pets after characters from Scooby Doo).

To all the great players I've teamed with over the years, TFT!

    Honourable mentions to @Pistol (uber thugs MM teams on Union way back in the day), @Lal, @Techno, @Princey, @Bumguffy, @Electro Kitty, @Phosphora, @Mean Freeze, @Target, @Qui, @Stone City Hero, @SuperLew, @Dev, @Bananas (@Nanas), @Mr & Mrs Unstoppable, @Cheesy. Sorry to anyone I forgot to mention.

To the toon with the best name I ever saw in the game (not mine): Give Quiche A Chance.

To Golden Girl - too bad about the animated hair that never happened. Why the flippity flip did you never roll another toon???

To my first toon (stone tanker) Shrike's Dad, my first 50 (rad def) Philtrum, my badger (BS/SS scrapper) Traffic Jam, my first true AoE love (spines/fire scrapper) Drive and my last (and greatest) love (claws/fire brute) Vampyr - I've enjoyed playing you all dearly and, if we never meet again, keep fighting the good fight in MMORPG heaven!

To NCSoft - I hope you go bankrupt.

To anyone who tries to get the game up and running again - good luck.

    Thank you and good night!

    @Philtrum

(and, yes, I am a real doctor - who'd have thunk?)

    Speed runs

My main interest is speed TFs/trials. These are mainly done on Defiant, my home server. Am rolling a couple of toons on Exalted. Would be pleased to hear from any players who also like speed runs.

To that end, I am setting up a hero SG for toons that are good at speed runs - Speed Monkeys - and a private chat channel - Exalted Speed Monkeys.

Send me a message if you want an invite to either or both.

  5. Not moving any toons just yet. Have fire-farmed a brute to 50 on Exalted. Will play a bit there and see what the community is like. Problem, as with all US servers, is that busiest time is early hours of the morning UK time. Not much use for me. lol.
  6. I'm not around any more. Too many ppl wanting to do speed runs. Completely ruined the game for me. I like to kill lots of stuff and take my time about it. I'm off to Freedom as I hear there are a lot less nubz over there.

    ITF yesterday (21st July) 11.36

yup - eleven minutes and thirty six seconds

    Fastest ITF?

Did DrQ the other night. Only 7 active ppl on the team. Difficult to +stealth past the Rularuu! Managed 2h39m. Better than the six hours it took me the one and only other time I did this TF!

Have had a nice run of fast Mo TFs recently.

    MoITF - 18.28
    MoSTF - 35.14
    MoKahn - 19.44

Of course, speed runs are getting easier as more ppl get more powerful incarnate powers.
  9. Whine, whinge, moan - sigh, oh dear.

    How pathetic!

A toon built from mere SOs for a few million can cope with almost all normal lvl50 content.

You want some nice set bonuses? Fine, there are many easily affordable sets that suit you.

What? You want the best? The most rare? And you want it cheap? So that everyone can be the same? No matter the effort? No matter how much time you spend playing?

    Pathetic.

Went for Tin Mage record last night.

Managed 13m+ in first run with no nukes.

Then 11m05s with nukes on second run.

    AVs dropped like minions! haha

A few questions for your group about some of your TF's.
    • First, did you use any temps? Of course even with all temps in the game, these are still amazing times, but was curious.
    • Second, on the STF time, what was the team makeup? Again, any temps used?
    • Also, what is the fastest MoSTF you've run (with settings enabled that is).

Your LGTF times are so out of sync with the rest; with the crazy times you have, I am sure your team can do LGTF sub 20 easily.

As a reference point, our group runs some of the fastest TF's on Virtue (note, not _the_ fastest, but some of the fastest), these are our corresponding times,

Tabulating versus your times, TF your time: our time,
    • Apex 15m20s: 19m
    • ITF 13m58s: 14m (only once, next was 17m)
    • KahnTF 15m52s: 22m
    • LGTF 23m31s: 20m
    • STF 22m38s: 29m
    • Tin Mage (missing your time): 23m

    Nice work, really nice.
See pointer elsewhere to the STF record run. Fastest MoSTF was 43.02 though, as noted, not actually TRIED to get a very fast STF.

For most of those times, we've not actually TRIED to get the fastest times possible but on some we have done just that.

Clearly, it starts with players who've teamed on speed runs many times and know the tactics backwards. Optimised toons, obviously.

For record attempt runs, we plan in advance that as many people as possible bring a full set of nukes from Warburg and some shivans (thought the latter are not that helpful).

It's then a question of planning when to drop the nukes, as nukes will take, roughly, 10-15% off the time possible without nukes.

Planning on having a go at LGTF next Friday. Will see how we go.

As far as team compostion goes, the general rule of thumb would be (and as a hardened scrapaholic, it pains me to say this) the more corruptors the better! At least one toon that can taunt (or has some inherent taunt) is helpful. And I mainly refuse to run a TF if there is no cold shielder on the team. If no one brings a cold shielder, I have two to choose from.

Oh, and as those on the Defiant Events channel will by now be tired of hearing me say, the second rule of speed TFs is "no masterminds, no stalkers, no peacebringers - lvl50s only, or very near 50 please!"

    [insert smiley face]

    Cheers all

(slightly tired after about 7 ITFs today and a very nice Apex/LG/Kahn combo run (in 65 mins))

That would be an excellent point if, in fact, running through the ITF for the 500th time was even slightly like having sex. Clearly, I don't have all the facts, but I think you might be doing the sex thing wrong. Or maybe not.

I've done the ITF so many times the last thing I really want to do is plod through it, killing everything. In just over an hour, with a good team, we can get through an ITF, a LGTF and a Kahn, with enough shards, drops and reward merits to keep everyone happy.

One of the reasons I'm still playing CoH after five years is that there it is always throwing up different things to do. For me, currently, I like speed TF runs. On the server I play on - Defiant - lots of players like running TFs for shards, and they will get teams together for that purpose. I'm not forcing anyone to join a speed TF team.

It would seem you don't see the point of speed runs. Fair enough. Horses for courses. It is pleasing that there is room enough for all different types of players in-game. One of the reasons I'm still here after all these years!

Regarding Mo runs, I'm pretty sure the Apex time mentioned in the OP was an Mo run. Sometimes, we'll just set things for an Mo, do it as a normal speed run, and if no one dies, so be it.

  14. This afternoon, was duo-ing the ITF with a friend. We'd almost finished the 3rd mission with just Requiem to kill. He was at half health and I was a monkey. He stunned me. I was staggering around the map. I think my friend was too busy laughing to do anything else. Miraculously, I didn't die. ITF duo'd in 50 minutes.

Some time ago, I thought I was doing really well to get through the ITF in under an hour. Then I got interested in speed runs. I found a few like-minded souls on Defiant and we started getting faster. When we broke the 20 minute mark we thought it must be a game-wide record but no, on the US servers, they'd been faster. We got below 18 minutes but someone had got below 16 minutes. We managed it in 15m02s but there was a video on YouTube of a 14m45s run. We tried again.

    Can you beat 13m58s?

    Other good times we've managed:

    Apex 15m20s (11.3.11)
    Citadel 46m51s (10.3.11)
    crystal keeper 36m45s (3.9.10)

Made me LOL when I read this.

The thing I like about CoH, and the reason I still play as much as I do over five years after first subscribing to the game, is that there are so many different aspects to the game.

For the first six months it was all about gettin a 50. Then it was about getting more 50s. Then I discovered the joys of scrapping.

Probably for 2-3 years I could never see the point of playing post-lvl 50.

After never being able to see the point of badging I got into that.

More recently, as you may know, it's speed runs that float my boat. It's just another challenge. If I end up teaming with someone who does not like speed runs, then a mistake has been made, as it's not my aim to drag someone through a speed ITF if they really want to pause, look around, go for a bio, do some facebooking during loading screens etc.

I have more 50s than I can reasonably manage, more inf than I know what to do with, I've done every TF countless times, I've played every AT, I've tried most powersets. The challenge, for me, and for a group of like-minded players, is to get the best 50 you can build, get the best team together you can, and get through a given TF faster than most people can do it.

I enjoy it. And others enjoy it. But I accept that not everyone shares this view.

There is more than enough room in the game for us all!

PS Attempting Apex speed record this evening. Wish us luck!

    Defiant Events

Well done. Your apology, if not quite unreserved, will, I am sure, be accepted by most players on Defiant, myself included.

I don't know if this is the fastest STF game-wide.

I am fairly certain it is the fastest on Defiant, and probably on the EU servers.

Let me know if you know any different!

    What is this, Kendai???

You got ticked off the other night so you hijack the principal community channel on the server and make up your own set of rules??

There is certainly a degree of irony that you do this in the same month that people across North Africa and the Middle East are revolting against dictators who've spent decades doing what you've just done.

I think you need to relinquish you op status immediatly, apologise uncategorically to the community then go and have a very long lie down.

    Very sad.
  20. Would people be interested in joining a new SG?

I am thinking of a supergroup called (something like) "Hometown Heroes".

The idea is that players would re-roll their favourite toon and call it AAA BBB, where AAA was their given name (either their real first name or maybe their global name in-game if they think it unwise to disclose their real name) and BBB would be the name of their home town, county, country, whatever.

Nobody would have more than one toon in the SG. We could form coalitions with the big main SGs to use their bases etc. In time, if ppl show enough interest, those with base-designing skills could get to work.

Was just mulling over this idea as a small way of putting a little more interest into the game, is all.

    Anyone think this might fly?
  21. gz m8

    720+ on my main badger.

But every time I start feeling cocky I end up randomly looking at other players' info when waiting for TFs to kick off and there's usually someone with more badges than me.

Most recently, ElectroKitty with 750+ bah!

And her SG has just overtaken mine in the top 100 list!

    bah bah

    Feeling sheepish now.
  22. This is getting annoying. Could not log on using several different PCs last night - other than my oldest/slowest (only good for WW, not playing). Then OK after about an hour, fine all day, during the day, then about 9pm, same problem as before. Hope it gets addressed/fixed fast.

    Fast Positron TF

Did Posi in 1h14m the other day.

Gonna crack the hour mark soon.

  24. Lag was silly.

Interesting idea - just needs a bit of development.
  25. 18m12s? Nice time.

Only way we could have done it any faster would be to have killed the 300 Romans faster but the lag (on the two runs we did) was horrible right from the start of the 4th mission. Power key lag was very disappointing. I'm sure that with no lag at all, we could have shaved a minute off our time - or that's what I'm telling myself. But the ITF has been plagued by lag (at least on Defiant) for as long as it's been around.

However, we now know what time we need to beat!

    (Unless anyone knows any different!)
