Defiant Events rules & guidelines
Wait, you think posting a set of regular open door rules which were already rules for the channel to begin with will make people forget there's also another minor detail that you gracefully sidestepped: that you just sort of jacked the channel?
Your optimism is beyond me Kendai.

Dear all, as you may or may not be aware, Defiant Events is now under new management. I feel that in order to start afresh, there must be some ground rules and guidelines that we all should abide by, posted here to prevent any misunderstandings in future.
- Common sense and mutual respect. - Try to keep one-on-one conversation to tells. - Casual chat in the channel is fine, as long as there is no event getting underway. If someone is trying to organise an event, we respectfully cease any off-topic talk. If need be, an Operator will step in, and call for the off-topic talk to desist if the event is still struggling to start. Silencing will be used as a last resort, and once the event is going ahead, people who have been silenced will be unsilenced. - No spam will be allowed. External advertising may be permissable with prior agreement with an operator. - Should any of the rules be broken by any player on the channel, appropriate action will be taken. However, no silencings or kickings will be given without warning first. All rules are subject to future admendment, which would be edited here and notice given in-game before being implemented. We are always open to suggestions from the community regarding these rules. |

What I really want to know is which OP actually invited you back to the channel (or has it been made public again? i lose track) and then made you an OP once again, because I really hope they know what they've done and are thoroughly and completely ashamed of themselves.

I have already explained my reasons for demoting the other Ops in the channel. I did ask the channel to be cleared for people to set up their taskforces, but many people did not listen, instead deciding to hurl abuse and insults. It is these particular people whose fault it was that events were difficult to get underway.
I will, from tomorrow be using silencing and kicking if necessary as stated above in order to ensure the smooth running of Defiant Events. I have not done so so far because I know that it will take time for people to adjust to the new management of Defiant Events. Also, information on how to apply for an operator position will be posted on the forums within the next few days.
The 'new management' of Defiant events? That being your singular and only management? Give me a freakin' break! Your reasons for demoting other ops were based on nothing but a quest for revenge, spite and childishness. What you have done is detrimental to EVERYONE who uses DE. There's been no problems organising events, in fact what you've done is MADE IT WORSE. If you start silencing and kicking for anyone talking about non events or not organising TF's etc then pretty soon you'll have you and your bum chums sitting in a channel with a dozen people, but hey, at least you'll be able to organise things for you and your mates!

What you did was not only underhanded, but malicious and insidious. It bordered on harrassment and griefing and I hope all the petitions people have sent against you garner you a ban from the game.
You've shown yourself to be not only petty but power hungry and have no business being Operator in a channel from where you got demoted by the majority of Operators. To then trick them into inviting someone as a new Op into their fold and then have that person reinstate you as an Op with the express purpose of taking over the channel and kicking every other Op out without so much as an explanation (which you still refuse to give) was malicious and aggravated by the fact that you now refuse to reinstate Ops that the majority of the players who use the channel are asking to be made Op again. If, as you say, the community chose you to be Op 2 years ago you should allow these same Ops back on as the community is choosing them now.
Furthermore, this isn't your channel and never was. Demoting the owner and founder is not only shameful as it is, at the very least, unethical. But like I said, I hope you get banned for this.

I'm not sure if this is a ridicule you just genuinely believe in yourself or pure neglect, but your vision is far and I mean far off from realism.
You hide behind some generic rules to try and make yourself look like a good guy, but the matter at hand is much more basic: operating a channel of such proportions on your own is never a good idea.
"But I never said I'll permanently remain the only op."
"There will be other ops again in the near future."
Newsflash: too late!
Why? Because in any case you're already past the worst part of this all.
If a number of ops operate a channel and you, being one, don't like how it's going then you discuss it with the others. Even if it's some of those people themselves whose behavior you question, then you discuss it, you work it out and you find a way to solve it as a team. That is the whole point of having multiple ops.
You demoted and kicked people without warning, no matter what you plan on doing in the future that's abuse of the rights you were entrusted by everyone else and an act of personal disrespect towards those particular people to boot. You can say all you want about how you want the channel to be used and how that differs - if at all - from how it was before and throw in "strictly speaking" type of stuff in your sentences as much as you want, but you don't seem to understand even half of what you've done on a social interaction level.
Furthermore nearly every time I've ever seen an op get silenced by another op if you looked at the context it was in good fun, often in a joke context and it was always received that way by both parties - bar the very occasional serious silence where one had to remind the other of the rules as well. But they would always be unsilenced, meaning there would be multiple people with their own perspectives to judge everyone else in the channel again. That was always maintained and that is exactly the first and foremost reason there were multiple ops to begin with. Because that way whenever someone else would play the borders of rules we all tried to maintain ops could always take care of it in a non-biased manner. A dictatorship on the other hand isn't gonna do anyone any good, no matter what twisted justifications you can come up with.
And lastly I'd advise you to just read this over once more and think about it for a while because if there's any chance you understood a word of what I just typed on the first read I probably wouldn't have had to type it in the first place.
You need to come to your senses, or in fact any senses.

So, why did you hijack the channel? and how do you justify that you beeing the "admin" of it?
I've made my own channel. And you're all not invited! I will have so much fun in my channel.

Can i ask why people cannot just respect the fact that the event channnel should be for team shouts and not prolonged conversations, after all there was a purpose built chat channel set up and the info put on MOTD.
All this hassle doesn't help things and people adding unnecessary comments to get reactions dont either. i do hope this matter can be resolved for the good of the server and the people that play on it.

*grabs popcorn* DONT FORGET GUYS BEING A OP IS LIKE HAVING A FULL TIME JOB, man i wish i could be bothered to log on to watch all this drama unfold......and why does DE need to be moderated anyhow it sounds dumb if you ask me the channel should run itself.
*edit* everyone should totally use my channel Defiant taskforces its free of power hungry people!!!!
Well here was me thinking "great it's Tuesday, new WSF, plenty toons to grab the merits on" then it got even better....*69 month Vet badge*.....well pleased......
Did a couple Sister Psyches (including one of my weekly troller/domi teams), did a couple of Silver Mantis.....all good fun, a nice chilled day.
Then the brown stuff collided with the fan. I can honestly say in 69 months of almost daily play I have never been driven to log-off and walk away as I was tonight with the events that unfolded in the Defiant Events channel.
I can't believe the arrogance or possibly just ignorance that was displayed by our new overlord to go & kick perfectly helpful Mods without their knowledge.
I'm the last person in the world to take the game too seriously (especially given my personal circumstances of the last two years) as anyone who teams with me will know. I also try to be one of the first with an answer if I can help anyone out when a question is put but I have never been & would never be a Mod with all the criticism that can go with it.
I can honestly say that some of the Mods who have been unceremoniously dumped without their knowledge are some of the friendliest/most helpful people in the game.
I will be watching with interest to see how this situation develops over the next few days as will a number of the long-term veterans I was discussing this with tonight and hoping that the matter is resolved to the majority of paying customers' satisfaction.

Wow. This was pointed out to me ingame by another long term player, although I am shocked to find even longer veterans in here grumbling about this.
All I can say is that Kendai, you are ruining this for everyone and all you are doing is making a lot of enemies and merely stalling the community. When I left CoH 3.5 years ago I ran the Defiant channel with some of the others (Miss etc) and there were never any probs, but now that channel is locked down(?). The global chatters will respond and adapt fast and you will be left with a handful of people and the server will be ever less community driven.
A dark day for Deviants indeed.
My suggestions: apologise, give the the old Ops their status back and you'll be surprised at how not bothered people can be.
In the meantime, I suggest someone sets up the next channel, or that we use Raz's. IT really makes little difference if everyone just gets on with it.
Finally, I am just going to start using /ac again, it's basically my channel and it seems that not a sole uses the arena so no one will mind, right?
Bums.

You got ticked off the other night so you hijack the principal community channel on the server and make up your own set of rules??
There is certainly a degree of irony that you do this in the same month that people across North Africa and the Middle East are revolting against dictators who've spent decades doing what you've just done.
I think you need to relinquish you op status immediatly, apologise uncategorically to the community then go and have a very long lie down.
Very sad.
Well this is one way to show that I've been playing the game for a long time. Matters such as this have become cyclical! We've been here before where someone gets ideas above their station and does something stupid which they will regret (I am assuming that Kendai will regret the actions taken).
Yes, it's a pain that Defiant Events has been hijacked. I haven't been on a great deal but when I was I didn't think that matters were out of hand. A bit of banter, but easy enough to see who was arranging what. All that will happen is another channel will be set up, Defiant Events will become a ghost town, and Kendai will be ostracised by the majority of the community.
The ball is in Kendai's court....

Hmm Kendai, was this done in the heat of the moment?, I have teamed with you in the past and you have always come across as a pretty nice chap.
You cannot do this morally Kendai, the channel is not yours to do with as you deem fit, you did not create it and was made long before your time. This borders on finding out someones account details and you changing the password to their account and using their toons.
Hopefully mate you will have had a good nights sleep and woke up and relise the situation and act accordingly.

Is there any update from the OP? Is this channel going to be 'handed back to the people'?
I'll give it till the end of the week to hear about the way forward then if not happy I'll be quitting the DE channel.
This type of forced government is not wanted/needed/required as far as I'm concerned.
In my life experience if there's something you don't like there are two prefered ways of dealing with issues such as this;
1) Work within the current rules/laws and progress change making sure to take people with you.
2) Walk away.
I'm of the opinion that the OP has gone for a bastardised version of option 1 which is not, at this moment, getting the nessesary ownership of the community.
I'd like to suggest you consider one of the two following suggestions;
1) Backtrack and say sorry.
2) Walk away.
Thankyou.
How to make friends and influence people springs to mind Kendai. I've never seen so many of the influential Deviants post on a subject. Give us back our channel

Kendai, I read the PDF containing your initial (now deleted) post, which showed a log snippet in which my @Maelwys global is the one you originally silenced for OT chatter in the DE chat channel.
As my comments in the log snippet indicate: on the day in question I had just sat through a fairly intense exam, and had taken to unwinding post-exam by playing CoH. Specifically, I was duoing my way through an Ouroboros TF (the 5th Column one). I had all channel chats displayed simultaneously in the Global tab on my chat window, and was checking it in between fights (you may notice the lag in between statements by Master Zaprobo, Miss Chief and AresCrusader and my responses).
Essentially I was in fairly high spirits, chatting away and barely paying attention to whatever else was being said in-channel. In fact, I didn't even notice you silence me. I was unsilenced almost immediately afterwards, and by this point I was waist-deep in Nazis and not in the most talkative mood. The next time I checked DE chat was after the TF- considerably later in the evening.
In any case, I was completely unaware until this afternoon that I had been irritating you that day. I also had a second account online and logged into the DE channel (my duoing partner) which was NOT silenced- since I frequently flick between screens, I could quite easily have used this account to post futher OT comments without realising I was causing any annoyance to you.
This is hardly a case where silencing was "used as a last resort"... if you were getting annoyed at me and had wanted me to be quiet, a simple /tell to draw my attention to it would have sufficed. I assure you that I was merely chatting normally, and I was not intentionally attempting to derail your TF recruitment efforts.
Even so, I'm not holding any hard feelings over a silence ban. I think most people who know me in-game could attest to the fact that I'm fairly laid back and not the vindictive sort.
That said, taking it upon yourself to kick the founders/creators of a chat channel - especially over something so petty - is juvenile and completely uncalled for. I'm surprised and disappointed to see that kind of behaviour from a former op.
