Problem with jerks in the game

Usually this is not a normal orccurance. This person was obviously just a jerk, and that will be common in all games, even Hello Kitty Adventer Island prolly has a few brats in need of a smack.

Jers are jerks, and the funny thing is that those in broadcast or heard it were prolly as surprised as you to hear it. I have seen where someone comments on a persons leadership or game play style rudely and the community tells em where to go.

I am on Virtue and well, it's a fine server and most of the time people are not this way. It will happen to all of us "See the rude tells thread", but the best thing you can do is to petition for harassment, or ignore that person. Join an SG and run with them. SG's usually have loyal people and will stick up for one an other, which in my experience is a perfect place to put your son and yourself.

I've been in this game for over 6 years. Two of my kids play on occastion, an 11 year old boy and a 14 year old girl. I keep an eye on what they are doing . . . and we have the kind of relationship where they will tell me what is going on. (The daughter likes to spend most of her time making costumes and then standing around in Altas chatting rather than actually doing anything . . . )

Neither of them play on Freedom. I keep them to lower population servers, and will often team up with them myself. (We have two accounts.) We have been fortunate to not have run into any kind of jerk such as the one you described . . . a few mild incidents, but nothing close to what you described.

I find that the huge majority of the CoH population to be nice, considerate and tolerant, especially when they discovery the player is a kid. (A couple of times when my 11 year old has been on a team, I jumped on his character to advise the team that he was 10 or 11 so I would appreciate consideration of his age in use of language, etc, and the team has always complied.)

LOCAL MAN! The most famous hero of all. There are more newspaper stories about me than anyone else. "Local Man wins Medal of Honor." "Local Man opens Animal Shelter." "Local Man Charged with..." (Um, forget about that one.)

Wow. If I had seen that, I would have filed a petition myself. When that kind of abuse is on broadcast, everyone seeing it has a valid reason to file a petition.

My daughter has asked to play the game with me, but being that the game is Rated Teen for a reason (usually language and adult content from other players i nthis game), we end up playing something more age appropriate that we both can enjoy.

I am sorry this 16 year old girl upset you to the point where you want to quit the game. Bt perhaps it is for the best that you leave it if you find it harmful to your child (similar to turning off bad TV that your child is watching if it goes against your teachings).
Re-read the OP. The perceived wasted 90 minutes was the time it took to run the TF just to be booted before completion.

Yeah, I would have instantly filed a petition as well. That level of abuse has no place in this game.

Sorry this happened to you. I don't have much constructive advice, except for what's been mentioned.

The more global friends you get, in my experience, the more you'll team with them and the better your teams are. Less room for jerkbombs. Good teammates drive out bad.

If you're on Freedom, Infinity, Victory or Pinnacle I can probably schedule an ITF at your convenience. It won't cancel the jerkiness of the jerk, but it's all I have to offer.

If this wasn't on Virtue, something simliar was happening last night, I caught two lines of drama between mission 1 and mission 2 of my ITF.

As an aside, my 5 year old plays with. I bring her on task forces and everyone I run across has been cool with it. Then again back in my EQ days, one of the best raid healers we had was an 11 year old girl.

I occassionally run with my 7-year-old. When we play, I make certain that I'm the mission leader and can handle griefers quickly.

From what I've heard from RL friends and family who play CoH and other MMO's, many (if not most) other MMO's are WORSE. Some are MUCH worse. CoH has a much higher average player age and a higher percentage of women than most other games.
This! In my experience, there is a direct correlation between the grindiness of the "End Game" and the toxic competitiveness of the players in the game.

Mark my words, we'll be seeing a lot more of this type of behavior once the BARF goes on line.

Not all communities are the same. And if one has too many hassles it seems the time is ripe for a server switch!
this.... things like this never happen in defiant, and i bet also in union or lower population us servers.... jerks tend to hang in high population servers

My daughter used to play when she was 7-9 and this is exactly what I did. She has grown tired of the game now, so she only occassionally plays in Praetoria

As already quoted, this, for me, is the key point.

I've been on a few ITFs this week with snotty teams. Also seen a lot of folks asking to join "non-speed" ITFs perhaps for the same reason. Regular mission teaming and non-WST-TF's are absolutely fine. If you're looking to do WST content, it might be worth being picky about your team. After all - there's a LOT of players running the various TFs.

As an aside, my daughter (11 at the time - now lives on FB) played hidden and with the chat windows off the screen. Call me paranoid, but I don't want to risk that level of abuse for my kids. Ironic really, considering where she spends her time now.

Truth.

The reason I'm guessing is because on the lower population servers they earn a reputation for being a bad teammate and a large percentage of the population has them one starred or on ignore, so they can't find anyone willing to team with them.

On a high population server the odds of everyone knowing how much of a jerk they are gets slimmer, and they can find some poor saps to treat like crap a little easier.

You can stand around and chat alot. You can be prone to profanity. You can use brawl instead of headsplitter. I usually don't pay attention. A little extra aggro, (but I do hate when a player consistently tries to solo other parts of the map separate from the team) but the one thing I do NOT tolerate is AFK for more than a quick bio in a TF or trial.

I have seen very good, attentive and beneficial teamwork from very young and/or very new players, and I have seen abusive, ignorant, and inattentive 'experienced' players.

I usually team with global friends.

wow that is awful! and sorry you had to experience this. Sadly with the WTF more and more people are coming out of the woodwork and I've heard many horror stories of bad TFs and some really bad behavior.

Please dont let a few bad apples spoil the joy in the rest of the bunch. and if you ever make it to Victory hit me up @zerlina and I can definately assure you of a good community and fun players and active channels

Where are we going and Why am I in this Handbasket?

Yep. I'll usually log into a toon that needs to do some stuff at Wentworths and watch the global channels while I'm there. When I see an ITF being formed, by someone whose name I recognize and have teamed with previously, then I'll go for it.

Nope, I randomly picked it out of a baby name book and for a while never heard of it used anywhere and now I'm finding references to it everywhere

I thought you had chosen it from "Men in Black II" - that version goes pretty well with your forum avatar!

Lara Flynn Boyle's character? Her name was Serleena.
(Yes, I had to look it up, but Zerlina didn't sound right.)

QFT. Did we end up teamed, I wonder? I was standing there for some portion of the incident, and because I was trying to find a team my general solution to the problem (switch to a tab that doesn't include broadcast) didn't work.

The Broadcast back-and-forth was really unpleasant.
