Are you willing to try something new?

Last night I logged in to run an ITF on my Fire/Dark corr.

I was the 7th player and we had 2 scrappers, a controller, dark/arch def, a PB and a blaster. They were discussing that they needed a tank to finish out - I said well, I can tank if you like?

Silence for a second - well what about the AV's? I said how do you want to do them computer, AV's all at once or seperately? If all at once I will need 2 purples. Silence again, then - how about Rom at the end?

I said ah he's easy just dogpile him.

They said ok! We picked up a Bots/Bubs MM and off we went - 1 death in the Tf and it was a blaster who got a bit too froggy. After we were done the team said well that was wild!

Are you willing to take a chance? I thanked all of the players for the risk they took in trying something new and they said it was great fun to watch! Yes, I do have taunt on my Corr!

You're far luckier than I would ever be.

Just done a PUG ITF with two none 50's... there were a few deaths, but The AV's caused us no issues. We just dogpiled them as per normal.

And it took 1hour and 21 seconds as a "kill most"... which actually became a hunt for everything that moved.

Surprised to see people still insisting on Tanks. The ITF was done with weirdo teams (All-Blaster, All-Kheld, etc.) even before level-shifting made it easy peasy.

Tanks are much more useful in uncoordinated PUGs than SG teams, for example, so it's not really fair to compared "planned" teams to normal ones in terms of AT requirements.

Sometimes you need an $AT on the team, sometimes you don't, sometimes having $AT on the team speeds things up, sometimes it slows them down. One of the great things about CoX is that you *don't* have to rely on the Tank/Heal/DPS combo in teams; if you can make it work well as a team then there's very little that you can't do with any combination.

in the 8 runs i did yesterday, only had one team who was asking about a tank when we started

even without a tank we still did fine, we were trying to speed as well which made the cyst mish annoying, but other than that we had no issues

another reason the ITF got made easy was because back when they limited all enemy powers to 16 targets, that included the healer nictus, so it can only heal off 16 targets, and its heal only does 239 (16 x 239 = max heal of 3824 if it hits 16 targets)

Fire/Dark is a great combo for tanking Rommie. A lot of his damage is Dark, so even on the rare occasions you get hit, you've got some resistance against it.

I guess part of the reason people insist on Tanks is because they expect a certain level of "comfort". Personally, the death penalty in this game is so negligible, I don't mind having a large death count at the end, as long as it's due to the team pushing the envelope as opposed to playing stupidly.

Yes, Tanks can be useful on PUGs, just like any other AT, but on the rare occasion when I put together a PUG I take the 7 first people who show up.

I thought the point of kill most was not to hunt down the runners.

Well we tended to get a bit spread out as a group and catch quite a bit on the 3rd/4th mission... so as a result, it was pretty much "kill everything in range".

And yes...i was sometimes just pulling groups who were not aggroed to make life more interesting for the party.

Tanks and Healers are both nice to have on a team but not required.

If you kill the enemy fast enough, then you don't need healing or a tank.

If you do a speed run get the Dark or Rad to pull the Dwaves and Nova's away using darkest night or EF and you can blow the crystal up with no foes to fight.

I was the PB on that run, and I gotta tell you, the way you played your fire/dark corr made me SO want to revisit how I have mine slotted.

Truthfully, you did a hell of a job, and I enjoyed myself thoroughly and completely!

I actually only have mine at about 18% defense.

He is near the cap on resistance though.

I have about 10% mez resistance/defense so if I am held I literally count to 3 hit my heal and keep rolling. Keeping darkest night up and using Howling twilight + my heal if basically using -to hit as armor. I keep spamming fearsome stare and all my -to hits and once I get things under control I try to bring in the Fire!

You may have noticed what I do is also "let" the team take some aggro and move to where they are so I can heal or debuff whoever is hitting them. That blaster got too far infront and I could not get to him in time. After that I watched him closer and left faster to the next group so that when they got there he wasn't what they were the maddest at lol.

It was a fun group. We had more deaths doing silly things fooling around with the romans but once we all were fighting it was very easy.

Thanks for allowing me to show you what a Fire/Dark can do! I have had a few folks pick at my build but really the way I use him works for me and I really would hate to respec him. I still have the old Stamina setup but switching IO's would really suck.

We did an RSF once with a bunch of Scrappers, a perma Mind Dom and a couple Corrs. Went swimmingly well.

Other day ITF with a couple Tankers, a Scrapper, my VEAT, a Mind/Energy Dom and two MMs (one was a Bot FF the other a Thug/Pain I think) and we did pretty well.

I generally don't care what people bring as long as they can contribute somehow. The worst that happens is you don't have the DPS/-Regen/Coordination to get it done...actually the worst is when you get someone under level or just leeching, and they afk for half the missions then you just kick them because they've done diddly squat all TF...but that hasn't happened often of late.

With the Bots/FF MM, did you still need the two purples?

A well built/played offensive tank can still dominate like a ****, but there are plenty of AT combos that do great things.
