Not sure if this has been mentioned, but does this mean we can now buy a physical copy of Going Rogue and use it now?

Nothing has been mentioned to that effect. Merging the whole accounts system would be a much bigger engineering challenge than allowing global server access, so I suspect there will be no change on that front.
I didn't think physical copies had anything to do with accounts, I thought it just decided which version of the updater you use.
With the merger surely there will only be one updater, which can be accessed with either EU/NA boxed editions.

This is what i was under the assumption of. Though it never really bothered me since you could change the path to alternate between NA/EU servers anyway.
Suppose this is why people will have to use the NClauncher soon.

Yep, the new updater already works with both US and EU versions of the game.
I'm pretty sure that that the code you use determines whether you get a US account billed in dollars or an EU account billed in Euros/sterling. Boxed copies of GR would give you a US account, but now I think about it, if you have no problem being billed in dollars you there is nothing to stop you doing that once global server access is in place. I have always used a US account as I started before the EU launch, and I will be able to use the EU servers once the time comes.
Bear in mind that the exchange rates have for some time now made a US account more expensive than one billed in sterling (not sure about Euros but I suspect the same applies).
Would you even need to use the code? yes you would miss out on a free month of game time but I can still use the dvd to do fresh installs of CoX, which would be the main reason for buying it, as I hate to download from GvE edition due to ISP bandwidth restrictions.
Plus I like the bumpf

I see where you're coming from but I truly believe your fears are groundless.
The most likely scenario is that people from all servers will check out new servers, and I imagine Defiant will get an influx of people from the NA servers, as will Union and the non-English speaking servers too.
They will inevitably be a few peaks and troughs of population but most people on the EU servers will keep playing on their "home" server. What we may well see is - depending how the servers are laid out, more people coming to the EU simply because Defiant is higher on the server list (but that's speculation of course)

I am very happy to see this has been done after all (this years).
The separate games didn't make any sense to me the first place, caused a lot of annoying problems, and there were long pleads to finally do this.

Of course NA players are welcome on our fine EU servers.
I think Virtue is the RP server.

As far as I'm aware Virtue is the unofficial RP server and Freedom is where all the PVPers ended up.
Of course the font of all in game knowledge has this to say
Freedom is definitely (and simply) the fullest server. It thus has more of everything, nice players, annoying and noisy people, and lag included, and is where most of PvP went to, mostly because it's fullest.
Playing from Europe myself, I can recommend it for purposes of finding lots of people on even when it's night in the US.
Virtue is still decently full, number two or three in that aspect, and indeed said to be very RP-friendly.
Now thats just harsh
