When soloing I usually have some audio book going, yesterday morning I found out that listening to Richard Dawkins talking about celestial teapots and flying spagetti monsters when I am still on my first coffee makes for a very surreal experience.
On TF's I go for any music that I am in the mood for at the moment, it could be classical like Rossini and Beethoven, golden oldies like Sam Cooke, Elvis and Johnny Horton, or Vangelis-type of instrumental music, or just plain rock like Blondie, Roxy Music, Marc Bolan & T-Rex, Dave Edmunds, Bob Seger.
When on a crafting spree or base building I usually go for classical fully instrumental like Haydn symphonies.
In game music I've set to something like 20 % and effects about 40 % I think. At the moment my headphones are broke so I've been on speakers for a while, and noticed that I go a bit lower then. -
Greetings folks!
Now that even us here in EU-land have access to Virtue I rolled some alts at your home. So far I found it very nice and easy going place, and from what I heard from fellow Unionites that tried Virtue also they have the same feelings.
See you on blue side and Praetoria. And if any should need help or info on Union just holler.
Regards from Sweden/Europe.

By the way, I am what one might call a casual roleplayer, but find rp:ers to be nice players over all. -
Welcome to Union all new overseas players. About Turgenev's question about lowbie/high level differences. I cant say I really noticed any difference and found that most lowbie's are just new alts for old players, so not really that much of difference if he/she is on a level 10 or a 50.
Probably the EU scene in general have fewer new players passing thru and the majority is vet players that still enjoy CoX.
As for lowbie-teaming I've found lately that I solo quite much more, not by choice alone, on my pre 20's. For instance it's been some time since I saw or joined a sewer or Hollows team. I am quite fond of random PUG's but seen a decline in those somewhat. For regular arc or radio missions I mean. The tip system have given PUG's a bit of a boost.
Either way I think you will feel at home with both a lowbie and a 50 on Union. -
My original design for my very first superhero, Crimson Fletcherette herself. Though she is more or less retired now, she will always have a special place in my heart. Also my first 50.
Memory Lane - Dual Blades/Ninjitsu Stalker, now also retired. Wanted a very iconic classic look for him, though a villain AT I planned him as a hero when he would have left Praetoria eventually.
Olympian Mistress - Archery/Trick Arrow Corruptor, another villain AT done as a hero. Very basic cossie but I find it stylish and quite pleasant to look at.
Womandragora - Empathy/Archery Defender, her new modified cossie, inspired by the ambulances and their new-ish color scheme.
And a showcase of several of my superheroines, from left to right: Womandragora (the old version), Steeletto, Shade of Blue, Red Five, Valiant Valentina, Betty Red, Elbowanna, Evermind, Miss T A, Current Selection, The Plot Thickens, and lastly two Defiant gals, Fortress Jane and Milk and Cookies.

There is also the "Mothership Raid Channel" though not really sure how active that is, but still worth mentioning I suppose.
For all bow users, Archers/Trick Arrowers, there is of course also the themed "Archers Channel".
But as allready said "Union Chat" and "sals badgehunters" go a long way.
On a side note: "Defiant Events" is the supreme channel for all Defiant related stuff. -
Just came off one of the most memorable TF's I ever been on. Was invited to join for Sister Psyche's Task Force and went along with my Dual Pistol/Energy blaster. Lo and behold when it after some extensive recruiting turns out that we are five pistoleers, 4 blasters and 1 defender, we are also joined by a troller, a second defender and a PB.
After a few missions we lost the PB, then one of the fenders, then one by one we lose another after another, even though after a very rocky start (read plenty of wipes) we soon got the team working better. On the sixth mish from end we lost the fifth member, who hung in there quite good. But alas now we are three aspiring heroes left, me, another DP blaster (the TF starter) and a defender.
We have major problems in the office mish and visit the hosp at almost every mob, and it sure was a large map to boot. Next couple of missions work out rather fine and then comes the dreaded AV, Clamor. Thinning her lines takes yet some new hosp visits and restocking of plenty of insps. But we get her down and the feeling is immense. Three rather squishy heroes have saved the day yet again, and it "only" took something like 4:16 hours to do it, good we were not on a time limit.
So even in the time of leagues a few players can make a difference.
Just a little memorabe event in the annals of herodom. But for me who was there it's something to tell the sidekicks about: I remember when me and two other heroes went to tackle the Freakshows...
Really sorry to say I don't remember the exact name of the TF starter, but shout out to him (or her) and Sir Fitzwilliams (the defender), thanks for a great time and very intense and rememberable TF.

Very welcome news indeed. Is there a thread that list the different unofficial roles that the NA servers have, like which one is RP, PVP and such?
Of course NA players are welcome on our fine EU servers. -
I was part of the event on Union and made a little vid of the thing.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=No7Ulyq4as8&hd=1
Thanks to all involved.
Happy New CoX-Year. -
In fact the EU servers are stationed in US now, since a while back. As Damz said, just make sure what account it is, EU or NA and get time for the correct one and it should work fine.
-
Welcome to Union and CoX (City of Heroes/CoH and City of Villains/CoV combined, Going Rogue is GR).
As some have alreday said, joining an SG (Super Group) isn't totally important, one will do fine without one. In fact if you want a base to fiddle around with you can make your own SG when you hit level 10, by seeing the SG fella in City Hall/Atlas Park.
As Areta said I highly recommend joining the channels (remember to edit chat tab on all alts for them), as CoX has a very, even extremly, friendly community you will be able to get plenty of help in game via the channels.
As for AT's (Archetypes) I think Defender might be one of the most newbie-unfriendly to choose, specially the Empathy skill set (CoH's major healer set), which makes for very different play. The most direct straight out of the box AT's would probably be blaster and scrapper, ranged and melee fighters respectively. I don't really know Villain AT's good enough to recommend or dismiss any there, but I find the Mastermind (MM for short) intriguing.
The choices to make is so varied that finding the combination of primary and secondary skill sets that fits ones own preferred playstyle can take a while. If you feel an alt to be boring or not working as you want, don't hesitate to delete it and try out a different combo and/or AT.
Even if you maybe don't plan on solo much be sure to pick up a radio from the cop in King's Row at level 4-8 or so, or any other detective in other city zones (or the equivalent newspaper villain side) which makes for easy to get missions if you run out of contacts or something to do.
As for pvp I can't say anything useful as I spend that faceplanted.
If you need any help in game you can give me a holler via @Crimson Fletcherette. Hope you enjoy your gaming in City of Heroes/Villains and on Union. -
Sorry to hear you leaving, but all things must come to an end I suppose. Thanks for all the great things you done.
Good luck where ever you will go.
Regards.

I don't really care where the servers are located, but I do care that they work as intended. Of course I understand that sometimes things break down and hopefully these things will be fixed asap. Some notification here seems to be in order also. Knowing if they are working on the problem yet, and maybe even an estimated time of returned service of Union would be appreciated.
On another note I think it's nice to see support for Union by the player base. Our home this is.
Regards.
A fellow Unionite -
Congratulations to you NA players for getting the option to have something we EU players can't have at all, not even if we wanted to, on our regular EU accounts that is.

Quote:I ask Defiant quite often how many they have on, and most of the time they have about the same amount on, sometimes a bit more, sometimes a bit less. But roughly as many players on as Union.Union server is the most active European server, I think. --don't take my word for it however.
Welcome back to CoX none the less. If you need any help in game just holler, global is @Crimson Fletcherette
If you want to join some ITF runs (one of the more popular TF's) be sure to do the Midnighter arc from Montague found in Steel university, so you get access to Midnighter Club and portal to Cimerora.
If you have a go at making some own missions in the architect there is a Mission Architect channel that might come in handy. -
Just to let you know, the all Archer team events are up and running again since last wednesday when six of us got round to it yet again. For the moment scheduled to be for wednesday evenings.
The events are missions of all sorts, and we even done GM hunts and cossie comps. All Archers and Trick Arrowers are welcome to join in the fun. If not already a member of the Archer channel feel free to join it as the teams will be announced there in game.
TWANG - The Wonderful Archers Network Group is also open for any SG-less bow user of course.
Be seeing you in RoA and Oil-Slick heaven.

You taken quite a different approach than me. I realised I will never really be able to fully slot purps so I went with less expensive sets for my Archer/Energy alt. My build is only for PVE since I don't PVP at all. Made to be a heavy hitter and pretty sturdy for a blaster. I do recommend getting Explosive Arrow instead of Ranged Shot, since Blazing Arrow is as good or very close. In ExpA you get a very nice follow up to RoA wich will hit at the same time, due to RoA's delayed animation. I also prefer to fly or hover when using Archery, since that makes targeting RoA so much easier I think.
Since Archery have a very good range over all, I do recommend changing Boost Range to something else, since it's not really needed, even Fistful have longer range than the cones in other blaster sets.
My build is very focused on not being in melee range, for those that sneak by other teammates I use Power Thrust, Kick to shove them away. Solo wise Repulsion Field will do the trick (RF I have not been able to try out yet, need to respec first).
Though it all boils down to playstyle, I only PVE and stay as ranged as possible. If one play differently another set up would be better I suppose. In any case good luck and may your arrows be sharp and your aim true.

Though I hardly played Khelds at all, only a PB to level 12, I am fairly certain it can be done. We have done both AV's and GM's in the all archer team events, though we have different secondaries so we might have had an advantage there. But taking on AV's without tank wasnt really any problem.
Good luck and I look forward to to read a recap on how it went. -
Welcome indeed. As GG says, when you gotten bitten by the altitis bug and filled up all slots on Union, you have several more slots over at Defiant also.
If you need any help in game feel free to ask away, global is @Crimson Fletcherette. -
Channel name: Archers Channel
Description: The channel for all that have either the skill set Archery and/or Trick Arrow. For any questions about related powers, slotting and such. It's also the home for the all archer/trick arrower team event nights
Restrictions: That you have the bow and arrows skills, that's really all.
How-to join: Either by joining or invite from any of the operators.
Not really a Union specific channel, know that there is some members over at Defiant. But none the less, Archer channel is for all that like to shoot arrows of different kinds. The channel have been running for about 3 years now and have 331 members. -
Quote:It's fairly easy to set up a channel. If you want you can have a go at it and then announce in game and at the forum that the brand new french channel is open to join for any who wants.Any chance that we can have a French channel for those who don't speak english ??
Think I saw a spanish channel, so there might already be a french one up and running also.
As Carni, I myself have no problems with folks talking in a language I don't understand, as long as they don't expect a reply from me. If they want to use french, german, spanish, italian or even simlish it's fine by me.
A tip: you can say Mille Sabord and/or Tonnerre de Brest to the frenchies, that will most likely get you a laugh and some friendly replies. -
Welcome to Union and CoX (City of Heroes/Villains). As the other already have stated there are some limitations when on trial. I do highly recommend that you mention it in search comment so the inviters know that you cant reply to tells, and keep waiting for that. You can also add the trial status to the normal bio, found under ID in menu, so that any passing by will know and can stop and assist you or just say hello and welcome.
I think there is a work-around with channels, if you get an operator to invite you, I am fairly certain you can then use it as normal accounts can. This is only if you get invited by an op. The channels to look out for would especially be Union Chat and sals badgehunters.
Oh yes, if you get capped inf-wise (50k) be sure to buy some salvage/recipies since it's only the money you have on you that's capped, you can run around with expensive salv and/or recepies, or have them stored in vault and ww (short for Wentworth, the player market).
I also recommend that you have a try on other AT's, skill sets, as there is not any limitations on trial as to how many alt slots you get. Meaning you get same as we do, about 10 I think.
Hope you will find CoX and Union enjoyable. -
It all comes down to preferred playstyle I suppose, but this build might give you an idea. It's focus is damage, recovery, recharge and using the range of a blaster, not a blapper build, though it has some added res and def. I also went for the Flame Mastery epic since Bonfire might be a good addition to the knockback heavy primary/secondary, also the added res from Fire Shield could come in handy and Rise of the Phoenix is a blasters best friend if you are going for the debt badge.
It is also quite focused on the setbonuses, perhaps a bit more frankenslotting could be used. It's also based on flight as travel power, but you can easily change that to another that you may prefer. Just copy the codes below and import them into Mid's and you will see the build. It is not the cheapest build but not either the most expensive, sort of medium high cost wise. Me personally I wouldn't put either brawl or Kick in tray.

Good luck.
Oh yes, I have not played an Energy/Energy blaster myself, I only used the secondary so this build is very theoretical. -
Quote:Thanks for the input, it's not my alt, I just thought I help out adjusting some problems a friend has, for the moment he is as squishy as a blaster, more or less.Is this a new character or one you've already leveled up?
You may want to read DesertScorpion's Dark Dojo Guide. Yes it's old, but most the information he gives there remains current.
The order in which you selected your powers seems inadvisable as a leveling build. Powers like Obsidian Shield and Dark Regeneration should really be selected as soon as they are available. If your friend has been away from the game 2 years, it's not likely he can select Super Jump at level 10.
Several of your attacks seem slotted soley as set bonus mules. These should all be slotted for damage. Crane Kick is one of your most damaging attacks, but you've barely slotted it's damage. Crippling Axe kick has no damage slotting at all.
This build seems to rely very heavily on recharge, but the recharge is coming from Force Feedback: +recharge PROCs. This isn't very reliable and really won't make up for the lost damage output. Even if you got extremely lucky with these PROCs going off, you'd never sustain any attack chains as the builds recover is too low.
While you can run CoF and OG together, it's not typically recommended. OG is the favored choice with Martial Arts as you can stack stuns.
You should not skip Death Shroud. It's a very efficient attack and in many scenarios will be the highest damaging attack in the build.
I feel my critique is coming off rather harsh, but IMHO there are a lot of problems with this build. I'd recommend reading the DesertScorpion guide I linked above since it's an MA/DA build. You may also find the Dark Armor sections of my guide useful, but it's a DM/DA guide and a tad bit long.
Since he is 50 the levels at which the powers was chosen wasnt a major concern when I planned this build. I did originally have Mako sets in both Crane Kick and Crippling Axe Kick, since Mid's said it made the HP bonus capped, I switched them around, but now that you pointed it out I guess damage sets is better. I also took some more dam instead of the fear effects.
