Hi guys and welcome! the trial will deffo not give u all the game has to offer! there are certain things u cant do or join and you cant pass lvl 15 i think it is but theres a whole load of good content when you get out of the low levels and then there is the new going rouge expansion out soon that will revamp the 1-20 content and give u the chance to make ur hero evil or villain good!
once you reach level 10 you and your wife could create your own super group or you can join someone elses with lots of members from level 1 (dont think trial accounts can!? not sure on that tho) people usually broadcast sg's (supergroups) in atlas park if your a hero and mercy island if your a villain just respod to the broadcast to get an invite or end someone a tell (private message)
bigger teams are much more fun ecspecially when ur able to take part in task forces etc!
there is a channel on union which i recommend you join called sals badgehunters lots of people on the union server are on there and ur guarenteed to find a team or sg
if you do carry on with the game you wont have to start again u can carry on from where u left off! so all is good! hope to see u at some point ingame and welcome!!! hope u both have fun and stick around

The Trial will not show you everything the game has to offer, the worst bit is that you cannot start a team.
You can speak in local so that is good (reasons for these impedements are the gold sellers and announcements... grrr).
Now when you log in to the game I would recommend you write in your search window something like this "Trial account, love to team" or something, then if you get a team, ask them to invite your other. 
Now this weekend there is double xp weekend so that means that there will be teamage. I would continue the normal route of Atlas Park, Kings row (safeguard missions), Steel Canyon and Sky, and the Hollows.
Depending upon your preference of play there are various groups out there. Everything from lots of Task forces (multiple mission after each other with a usual Arch Villain at the end), Roleplay (Lots of talk in local, hang out, story creating), etc.
I would recommend staying out of the AE (Aeon Entertainment) aka Architect building. When you hit lvl 5 you get a new contact, the Studio manager. Don't go and see him (yet). Go rather to Kings row, talk to the detective and get your radio (for radio missions and later Safeguard missions. You do want to save the bank from a heist?
And.. I would not call you noob cause you are not noobs. Your newbies (like we where) cause you want to learn and you ask for advice The other kind generally do not.

Welcome to the game, theres really not much to say that hasnt been said, but the trials really dont make the game shine and its cos of our way of stopping gold farmers per say. kind of a double edge sword in my view.
but check out the zones while you can, explore what powers and enemies you can.
and yer. enjoy it really

->Right click your chat box, anywhere will do.
->Click 'Channel Search', and then click the members tab to retrieve the most popular.
->There are various ones namely: 'Union Badgehunters';'Sals Badgehunters' & 'Union Task Forces', all of which you should find people!
If you create a new character you will need to manually add these channels again to your character's "Chat Tab":
->Right click your chat box, anywhere will do.
->Click 'Edit Tab', and search for your particular channel, then click 'Add' and that's you!

Im having fun so far My fav character so far is my Tanker at lvl 11 been in a few groups to go to sewers and the hollows that was good fun
Tried to look at chat channels but seems i cant join them on trial so as soon as i get my box i will say high

Welcome to Union and CoX (City of Heroes/Villains). As the other already have stated there are some limitations when on trial. I do highly recommend that you mention it in search comment so the inviters know that you cant reply to tells, and keep waiting for that. You can also add the trial status to the normal bio, found under ID in menu, so that any passing by will know and can stop and assist you or just say hello and welcome.
I think there is a work-around with channels, if you get an operator to invite you, I am fairly certain you can then use it as normal accounts can. This is only if you get invited by an op. The channels to look out for would especially be Union Chat and sals badgehunters.
Oh yes, if you get capped inf-wise (50k) be sure to buy some salvage/recipies since it's only the money you have on you that's capped, you can run around with expensive salv and/or recepies, or have them stored in vault and ww (short for Wentworth, the player market).
I also recommend that you have a try on other AT's, skill sets, as there is not any limitations on trial as to how many alt slots you get. Meaning you get same as we do, about 10 I think.

First of all hello to the members of union and the game community as a a hole.
So me and the missus after lots of searching for a new mmo to try and ended up here.
We are both on the 14 day trial and made our first hero I have gone for Tanker and the wife Blaster and seems fun so far even though we only started yesterday.
Now if i may ask a few questions such as:
Is the fact that we cant group on a trial account going to affect our first impressions of the game as we always work together in every other mmo and when we get our retail box can we continue with these characters or do we have to start over?
I here that clans/guilds are supergroups here how do we find a good social group to join ( I have seen some mention of channels to join but not sure what they are and how to do that)
Any good advice to get us into the swing of things?
