Wonder Woman Chosen

Looks like it's going to be Adrianne Palicki of Friday Night Lights fame.

I never heard she was in the running, but certainly won't complain. She is very easy on the eyes and not a bad actress.

I still think she was born to play Supergirl though.(and no, her stint on Smallville doesn't count.)

Meh, I'm not expecting much from this show..seeing as how the plot of the pilot has made Wonder Woman some high powered corporate type by day and a vigilante at night... Sounds like friggin batman with boobies to me.

Adrianne Palicki seems like a decent enough choice. I was hoping a "relative unknown" actress would get the part and since I've never really heard of her she at least has that quality as far as I'm concerned. I did a quick IMDB search and as a brunette she definitely has the potential to look Wonder Woman-ish.

As I mentioned in other threads I'm still going to give this show a chance regardless of what I hear about it. I've effectively waited 32 years for it (since the last WW show was on the air) so giving it a few hours of my time doesn't seem too much to ask for all things considered. I'll admit what I've read about it so far doesn't totally reassure me that it'll be a great show. But then again it's hard to judge a show by what a few relatively vague sentences can tell us. It's basically still far too early to assume anything about how it'll turn out it at this point.

Kind of reminds me of Terminator Sarah Connor Chronicles: sounded interesting, had an interesting start, got decent, then failed. (especially Season 2).

Of course the Summernator helped inspire desire to watch it.

Corporate Exec by day and vigilante by night? For any third rate generic superhero series, sure. For Wonder Woman? The most iconic female superhero ever? No. Just No.

I will watch the pilot out of morbid curiosity, but thats it. I predict cancellation, probably after 5 episodes.

Possibly. But sometimes the pilot and series are different due to needed changes after the pilot has aired.

Well all I'll say to this is even when Lynda Carter played Wonder Woman back in the 70s and her show was geared towards what most people would consider the "iconic" version of Wonder Woman it only got 3 seasons (spread across 2 different networks). I'll readily admit the obvious and say Wonder Woman, even the classic version that has nothing to do with the "corporate exec by day and vigilante by night" spin on the character, simply has never been an easy character to have a show for regardless.

I'm willing to keep an open mind about this new show. I'm open to the idea that it might crash and burn after 5 episodes. But I'm also willing to see if we get some new reformulation of the character that may not be like anything we've seen before but may yet still be good in its own right. After 32 years I could probably accept a workable redesign of the character as opposed to the alternative of having to potentially wait another 32 years for something else. *shrugs*

I don't know... the amount of changes that would be needed to just vageuly repersent Wonder WOman are pretty staggering... the worst thing is if this show is a failure Warner Brothers won't see it being because the character was mishandled, they will see it as her being unpopular cutting down on the chance of seeing Wonder Woman onthe big screen at least until for the next decade or so.

We haven't seen -any- new version of a live action Wonder Woman on -any- screen in over 3 decades.
How much -more- damage could this new TV show actually cause (assuming it's bad) any future Wonder Woman project?

Yep this sounds completely stupid.

Good casting, but I still have deep reservations about the premise.

Er, I think they accidentally told her she got the part instead of her Friday Night Lights castmate Minka Kelly.

Start chugging the beer Adrianne, can't be Wonder Woman without a set of Wonders! Otherwise she seems like a good choice, dont know about the premise of the show though? Seems destined for a short life.

"Space farmboy rescues space princess from evil spacestation" is a simplistically direct summation of Star Wars that by itself sounds kind of stupid to me as well. But as we all know the movie is a little bit more involved than that.

Trust me when I say I'll be more than willing to criticize this new Wonder Woman show AFTER I know enough about it to be certain it sucks. Until then I'm not letting a few random phrases I read on the Internet led me into thinking I already know exactly how this show will turn out. *shrugs*

At least she's naturally 5'11" so they won't have to use much "Hollywood Magic" to make her look taller. As far as her other "assets" go there is so much they can do to "enhance" various things now-a-days that I have no doubt she'll look acceptable.

I've never expected that the actress playing the role was going to be the "weak link" in this new show. There are plenty of other things to worry about.

Well let's look at it like this: she's going to be a corporate Exec/Ceo....that means she has access to money and resources similar to Bruce Wayne.

Let's face it, most vigilante/heroes need a steady supply of money and resources to do their job, or to outfit with specialized gear on occasion.

Frank Castle tends to get his money by confiscating money from the crackhouses that he blasts, which is fine for the Punisher.

The Marvel Hero fore Hire character: Paladin is a mercenary and is for hire and I'm sure his fees are high and he has connections in terms of getting the gear he needs.

Superman: well he's Superman and has the Fortress and its Kryptonian tech so he's covered.

Bruce Wayne was born with a silver spoon in his mouth and is the CEO of a major corporation.

Tony Stark: has his own company and builds his own suits

Reed Richards: money from patents on some of his inventions, plus builds what they need.

The one character that kind of defies the "must have money" tradition is Spiderman. How a kid that can't afford to buy a car managed to get the chemicals and parts needed to make web fluid and web shooters is one of those unsolvable comic mysteries, which is why I applauded Sam Rami's logic in giving him organic webshooters for the movies.

Wonder Woman could be a character that could be more effective with corporate backing via their own company.

Yes the fans do seem more interested in the "assets" vs. the acting skills for this character.

Can't imagine why /e sarcasm off

Seriously though, we are also presuming she will have the traditional bikini costume and not the modern revamp that is currently in the comics. Need to wait and see.

Er why would Wonder Woman need a lot of money to fight crime? She's a magic powered superheroine with mystical weapons and armor.

Chances are she's going to have some computer geek hacker friend that has access to tech and money, since they always put that kind of character in shows like this, but I don't see why Diana herself would need all those things.

It's certainly possible that this new show will take the "Batman with boobs" idea way too far and it'll be silly. But if the "corporate executive" thing is more just a secret identity she uses and doesn't really get into the serious hi-tech oriented gadgeteering like Batman does then I don't have an extreme problem with it.

That's really the point I'm trying to make here. We really have no idea to what degree the whole "Wonder Woman as corporate executive" concept is going to factor into this show. Based on how well we all know how Batman operates I'd frankly be amazed if this new show seriously decided to plagiarize Batman THAT closely. It's far more likely the person who wrote that original article heard "Wonder Woman as corporate executive" and decided to assume this meant she was going to be a "vigilante" just like Batman.

There's also how they plan to deal with the Amazonian and Greek mythos to deal with since she is the product of Greek gods and a princess.

Add in that ;arge coporations are not in favor among the viewing public for obvious reasons and you have the potential for a disasterous premise for the series, and a character that wont resonate well with viewers.

Yes it will be interesting to see how they handle her "origin story" in this new series.
They may handle it poorly, but there's no real reason to automatically assume that'll be the case at this point.

I don't really think the idea of giving Wonder Woman the secret identity of "corporate executive" by itself would be enough to make this new show crash and burn. Batman seems to be doing pretty well in the eyes of the public as a "corporate executive" in the last couple of Batman movies. And for all we know the "corporation" she's an executive of may end up being involved in green technologies or other happy-shiny business areas that promote her superheroine ideals.

Isn't it obvious that they're going to turn the Greek gods into the board of directors of the company Diana works for? Or they're going to have the gods in charge of their own companies and the rivalries of the mythology are going to play out through corporate politics and sabotage?

Actually the premise of the Greek Gods acting out their modern-day rivalries through corporate politics and sabotage sounds like an interesting show idea even if you don't involve Wonder Woman in it.

Depends on if they get the vibe right for it. If they get something around what the folks at Supernatural did for the Hammer of the Gods episode of last season they could be in good shape. But I hope they don't just shove Wonder Woman into a new Greek myth each episode.
