Well they actually didn't involve Wonder Woman in a lot of her Greek/Amazon background during the 70s shows with Lynda Carter.
No reason to suspect they'll dwell on that too much in this new show either.

Well there is street level crime that can usually be resolved with punches, kicks, deflecting bullets and her magic lasso.

Then there is corporate crime such as insider trading, or companies exploiting the environment, destroying the environment, illegal employment practices, etc. Such things are perhaps best fought in the boardroom or the courtrooms.

Just had a bad memory flash of the old live action Captain Marvel/Shazam show where they drove around the country in their mobile home and the Greek gods contacted them by some flashing sphere in the vehicle and Billy would then communicate with them......the cardboard cutouts/FX for the greek gods were just BAD.

So here's hoping the Greek deities stay out of this.

Well that's all fine and dandy for a legal show, but this is supposed to be about Wonder Woman. In those cases it's lasso of truth time.

True, getting them to confess via the lasso is all fine and dandy until some Jack Thompson style lawyer states that it was a confession under duress and gets it tossed out.

I have a feeling we'll see a lot of them trying to translate the Greek myths to the modern world. Let's hope they take a note from the way they handled the gods in that previously mentioned Supernatural episode as well as what Rucka did on the title as far as updating the Greek gods for modern times.

I doubt that if Diana is acting on behalf of the gods and she's taking down someone who pissed them off in some way they're going to be worrying a whole lot about our legal process.

True, if she is acting as an agent of the gods.

Or they may just say she left the island to fight evil in man's world and leave the greek gods out of it.

I still chuckle at the JLU ep where Hermes came to her with an order from Zeus to return home to stop Faust and restore Hades. "Why should I? I was banished!" Hermes response "Oh you mean beside that whole 'Order from the Gods' thing?"

I'd put money on the assumption that they will completely ignore Wonder Woman's origins, there will be no secret island of amazons or Greek gods behind her origins. She'll gain her powers (if she even has any) from something her company invented.

@Doctor Gemini

Arc #271637 - Welcome to M.A.G.I. - An alternative first story arc for magic origin heroes. At Hero Registration you heard the jokes about Azuria always losing things. When she loses the entire M.A.G.I. vault, you are chosen to find it.

This is not the first time something like this has been tried.

There was a really bad TV movie starring Cathy Lee Crosby where she was a secret agent type with gadgets.

The comics also had her go through a de-powered "Emma Peel" phase with the white outfits.

Both went over about as well as you'd expect.

People who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

I know what how they will tie things in.

She will be a corporate executive for.......wait for it.....
Amazon!
She will refer to her co-workers as Amazonians.

She's got blue eyes... But will she look good with jet black hair?

Honestly, it's Wonder Woman, so when it comes I'll watch it, probably keep watching it even if it's not bad, but given what I've heard so far, I can say I'm holding out high hopes for this being really great, or all that Wonder Woman-y

This isn't Wonder Woman. If they'd come up with some sort of superheroine vigilante show and called it something else I would be interested. They could have made her the Huntress or something, but this isn't Wonder Woman.

All they wanted was to hijack the name. **** them.

I'd hoped DC had learned their lesson after Catwoman, but I guess not.

I remain unconvinced that they are going to go 100% no-superpower/Emma Peel mode with this new show. I accept that it's a possibility, just a fairly unlikely one.

The reason is that even though geeky people like us might remember the travesty of the Cathy Lee Crosby movie or the period of time when the Wonder Woman comic book went through her "no powers" phase I suspect the general public has no knowledge of these things. Pretty much the only default idea -anyone- has of Wonder Woman comes from Lynda Carter's portrayal of the character.

Now when I say "general public" I also sadly include most Hollywood executive types, including the people involved with this new show. This is where Hollywood's relative ignorance of the source material may actually help the hardcore fans for once. It's quite possible that since the only widely known model for a live action Wonder Woman is Lynda Carter the producers of this new show might not be "aware" that a no-powers version of Wonder Woman even exists as a possibility. They may be so blinded by the "Wonder Woman = Lynda Carter" thing that they may be unwilling to radically alter the character as much as we fear they might.

I still think too many people are assuming too much with the "Wonder Woman as corporate executive" thing and jumping to the simplistic conclusion that means we're going to get "female Batman" out of this. Over the years Woman Woman has had many different "secret identities" in the comics and TV shows and they didn't all lead to the no-superpower/Emma Peel version of the character. Why can't her new alter-ego, in 2011, be an executive in a business setting without changing any of the other magical/mythical fundamentals of the character?

Until we know for sure I'm not assuming anything one way or the other.

I'll wait to watch the show, or at least see some trailers/pics, before I jump to these conclusions.

It's true that she's blonde most of the time (going by most of the pictures you can find of her on quick google searches).
But there are a few examples of what she looks like with darker hair:

As I said before I don't think the weak link of this show will be Adrianne or her acting. If there's a problem with this show it'll be the stories and/or general "spin" of how they present the Wonder Woman character.

Remember how Jon Peters thought it would be great if Superman didn't fly, lost his powers and had to use an armored suit?

What he was really thinking, of course, is that it would make for a great toy line to which he'd get a share of the conception rights.

Don't put your hopes on the common sense or fidelity to concept of entertainment industry executives. They all want to leave their fingerprints on something in the hopes it'll pan out for them. Victory has a thousand fathers and all that.

Just re-watched the commentary version of the Wonder Woman animated flick that came out recently. They say over and over again how every fan has a diff opinion on how WW should be portrayed. It was kinda funny when they rattled off everything people expect her to be to make the point that if they gave the fans what they wanted she'd be boring as heck!!

I can only hope that the TV show producers put as much thought and care into their re-imagining as Timm & crew did.

Again all I'm saying is that it's far too early to ASSUME doom-n-gloom over this new show.

Those things may yet come from this. I just think it's sad for people to read a few random words about a show that's probably nearly a year from happening and automatically assume it's going be sucky. *shrugs*

Trust me if this show does end up being sucky I'll be in the vanguard of tearing it a new one left and right. I'm just going to maintain a tone of "hopeful neutrality" about it until I know which way to judge it.

Hopefully well-placed camp. I mean shows like Supernatural can be silly sometimes but that doesn't stop it from being one of the consistently best shows on TV.
