-These forums and the quality of the other people who play my favorite game. It always makes me feel special because everyone here is so special.

-For the Dev attitude toward making things fun. I don't remember if it was Posi or BaB's who said it: "When it comes to realism or fun, fun always wins."

-For being alive (after a major surgery a couple months ago). I was in the hospital missing CoX! I couldn't even visit the forums. The stupid IT people for the hospital block all websites that have anything to do with games?

Somehow I missed this on Friday...

I am thankful for my sweetie dragging me kicking and screaming into this game as it has spawned a whole lot of wonderful memories such as I waking up at 1:00 am and nudging him awake to tell him all about my idea for a simply wonderful new character

I am thankful for the wonderful people on my global friends list who understand I am a slow typer and chatter with me anyways..yes, I don't team, but that does not mean I am at all quiet

I am thankful for the Devs giving us neat things to buy with Hero/Villain merits.

I am thankful that the people here on the forums not only don't run me off with my stupid questions and opinions, but are extremely nice and helpful.

I am thankful that I am the sort of person who can feel thankful for things...

Oh, oh, oh, and I am very, very, very thankful for the GMs who answer petitions from us players who cannot complete missions. More than once I have been moved from where I stood, to where the hidden minion lurked. To me, They are the indeed the Guardian Angels of this game.

I raise my bottle of Tropical Carrot Juice to another seven years

Strange that you mentioned in in your OP, but I actually DID meet my wife while playing CoH.

Other things about the game and forums I appreciate.

-I can log in and not feel like I have to spend 8-10 hours playing in order to get anywhere. As opposed to other MMOs where, if you take a break you have to play catch up to get back to where the people you play with are. I can log in for a half hour and put a level on a lowbie, and it's fine because i didn't fall behind anyone else.

-The development team, which has displayed an amazing capacity for actually listening to their players. Too many games' developers take the stance of "If they don't like what we do, they can play something else". Here, our devs will listen to our feedback and make changes accordingly. (the thing with the APP power replacement leading to there now being 5 powers in the pools is a perfect example)

-The forums, for giving me an outlet to debate things that never (or very seldom at least) gets personal. Maybe it's a character flaw of mine, but I enjoy debating things, and will frequently debate something I don't feel particularly strongly about for the sake of the debate itself.

-The costume creator and available powersets, for letting me create (nearly) anything I can imagine. It has it's limits, but it is more versatile than any other character creator I have ever used.

Happy Friday, everyone!

Man, what a great week. Do you ever have those days when you just go, "Ok, so I know life isn't perfect and there are some things that could be better, but right now I just feel like I am glad to be here and I sure do like the people around me."? (Ask me Monday if I still feel this way. Ha ha!)

That's how I feel this morning. There are some great people that I work with every day who make my job more fun, who teach me in ways I don't think they even realize, and who are just some really wonderful people.

And so with that very "general" appreciation, here's a few more for this Friday. Bear in mind, that I'm digging deep into the archives sometimes because City of Heroes, for me, has been a (as of next month) 9-year experience. (I've probably forgotten more than I remember at this point.)

So here goes!

  • Those early Design lunches when we all fit into my minivan
  • My early morning walks to Starbucks with The Television
  • My early morning walks back in Los Gatos with Positron and Hero 1
  • My very first trip to Brighton for a Player Meet 'n Greet -- I was so scared that I'd be too shy, but I ended up having so much fun and everyone there was so so so wonderful to me
  • The arcade game machines in the kitchen at Paragon -- even though I suck at it, Tetris is super fun
Enjoy your weekend, everyone!

  • As usual, the friends who keep me roleplaying on Union for over 6 years now.
  • The guy who's writing makes me go 'Hell, I want to write like that!' and 'Damn, I can never write like that, why try?!' which is conflicting but awesome (That'd be Ravenswing.)
  • Shedding the coffee demon on my back for tea instead. Earl Grey, Lady Grey, Assam, Ceylon, Lapsang Souchong, English Breakfast...
  • Good chats with my friend, and with my honorary brother that helped me deal with some stress attacks.
  • The local fish and chip shop, for an excellent portion of sausage and chips.
  • My parents, for generally being awesome as usual and making me laugh.
  • The huge amount of books besides me that I need to read, don't know where to start, and keep adding to. (Yes, the CoH books are there. Yes, I want more CoH novels. And yes, I actually enjoyed both. And yes, even Freedom Phalanx.)
  • iPlayer and 4oD: The best way to watch television, without having a television in my room.
  • Work: It's not glamarous, and I need a job that pays more, but I love the people I work with and the responsibility I have.
  • My favourite band giving me music to game to, and new musicians I've stumbled across.
  • Finally (Because 11 is good) my computer. Still Flying, just like Serenity.

Hmm...

  • The folks who've shared some neat (if impractical) ideas for videos of mine (especially the Year 7 vid)...
  • The COH players in Seattle who came together a week or so ago at Buca di Beppo DESPITE the snow for a 2-hour dinner and laughfest.
  • My job. Two months in (after over a solid year of unemployment), and it is one of the best positions I've held in my life, with a great team, a terrific boss, and a lot of promise.
  • Dust Raven and Trystan Laryssa for creating the Star Patrol, one of my best sources of inspiration, which leads to...
  • JUSTICE SERVER. You guys are the best.
  • And so is Triumph, my other home, and the original location of the Sinclair Syndicate Film Crew.
  • Even though they're now gone, Ex Libris and Lighthouse, and then later TheOcho. They'd know why, if they were still here.
  • Poets of the Fall, for announcing that they're back in the studio for their next album.
  • Equation, aka Arbiter Fabulous, for gossipy, funny, makes-no-sense-to-anyone-but-us phone calls at almost any time.
  • Every CoH player who has ever sent me a music or video link (or info on software, websites, or whatever) with the note, "Hey, saw this and thought of you and your vids..."

I am thankful that I got to play Mab Queen of Winter along with Harry Dresden on some missions.

I am thankful that they'll play the game and it'll be as if they dipped themselves in magic waters. The memories will be so thick they'll have to brush them away from their faces. People will come Ray. The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been City of Heroes. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But City of Heroes has marked the time. This, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again. Oh... people will come Ray. People will most definitely come.

Things I appreciate as of this Friday:

∙ All the new content, systems, etc. that are being added to COH, and the new era of open communication with the Devs and Community team. For the first time in almost two years, I can't wait to get home and log into the game!

∙ By extension of the above, how awesome the playerbase of CoH is. I am endlessly amazed by how friendly and uninsular people here are. I've never played another MMO and missed at least 2-3 years of vet rewards because I was afraid to play this one, but boy am I glad I decided to give it a try.

∙ How much easier it was than I thought it would be to start eating better and exercising more. Haven't dropped many lbs yet, but I already feel much better than I did a month ago.

∙ My job. It's incredibly frustrating at times, but also incredibly rewarding. And while there is a lot of pressure, I can always find time to pop on the forums a few times a day and "de-stress." I must like it because last October, I completed my 21st year. Only nineteen more to go!

Things I appreciate as of this Friday.

The people in the Art Forums, that inspired me to take up the pencil again, although I currently am not feeling very creative. I am improving slowly and have decided to go back to school and get some formal training.

I thought I had nothing to post, but I do!

I'm really excited that I'm going to watch David Tennant portray the Prince of Denmark tonight.

And I'm thankful to Dark_Respite for reminding me of this fact!

War_Witch's Man is already level 50. Instead she'll have to purple it out and take it through the Incarnate system just like the rest of us.

I'm appreciative that someone appreciates me!

Actually, I'm very happy that I have found and brought together willing, talented and dedicated people interested in working on two new work projects of mine. This week, I went from looking to start one project to having two!

I am also grateful that we have WW as lead designer of my favorite game...
And very appreciative that my mind control powers worked and she is busy at work on things that I command!

One other thing... I have noticed several instances of different business people using the phrase, "to the next level"...
Clearly, Paragon Studios has gone from being the model of the mmorpg industry to being the model of all business ventures!
Nice going, WW!

Now... back to work on those Space Platypus invaders, the base lovin' and all the Pool Power Customization you're so happy to be doing!

At least you don't play to stereotype and say "eh" at the end of every sentence.

I'm thankful for;

Playing this game with my wife and discovering she has a very good imagination and is one of the best melee toons I've ever met.

The people on the forums specifically the peeps at the Rookery who make me laugh and have actually got me to rp(on the forums that is).

For having a game, my first online game that is a great stress reliever(I get to punch/incinerate/etc people legally lol).

All the features in game that are a neverending source of enjoyment and wonder for me.

To a great dev team who work hard to provide a great mmo(I won't mention pvp and my much loved base raids)

Finally to the friends who've come and gone and those that still remain from all over the country for being more than just teammates.
