2010 Player's Choice MA Awards: Results

This hasn't been the best year for the Mission Architect and its authors. From monkey farms, to few Dev Choices, to few plays. Especially the few plays part - last year's Player's Choice voting brought 250 posts and over 6,000 views with a voting period of 3-4 weeks. This year's had twice as much time, and only 1/5th as much interest. I hope that next year brings renewed interest in the Mission Architect and hopefully I will be back next year with a bigger turnout for the 2011 Player's Choice Awards. But regardless, there have still been great authors publishing great arcs. And all of the nominees for this year's Player's Choice are no different. These are definitely the best arcs of the year, and if you didn't get the chance to play some of them, be sure to give them a shot when you can. It will absolutely be worth it. Without further ado, here are the winners for this year's Player's Choice Awards!

And just as a reminder, I thought I'd take a quick look back at last year's Player's Choice Award winners.

Best Lowbie arcs (TO/DO range)
The Marconeville Horror #178278 @Footloose - Still sitting at 41 plays and 4 stars. Check it out sometime!
The Invasion of the Bikini-Clad Samurai Vampiresses from Outer Space! #61013 @Aliana Blue

Best Higher range arc (SO+)
Teen Phalanx Forever! #67335 @PW - shot down from 5 stars just shy of Hall of Fame status. But still an author with a Dev Choice.
One Million Eyes #71933 @minimalist - another great arc at 4 stars, and another author who won themselves a Dev Choice. And personally, I preferred this arc over their Dev Choice arc.

Best Short arc
Celebrity Kidnapping #1388 @PW - once again, the winner of the short arc category.

Best Multi-arc
The Consequences of War #227331, and The Casualties of War #241496 @Dalghryn - Another couple arcs knocked down from 5 stars, and both still worth a look.

Best Serious arc
Tales of Croatoa: A Rose By Any Other Name #178774 @Silvers1 - One of the few arcs from the Player's Choice who also became a Dev Choice, this one through the first Architect Awards which sadly weren't held again this year.

Best Comedy arc
In Poor Taste #259920 @Wrong Number - a multiple Player's Choice award-winner that still has not been recognized by the devs.

Best use of Mechanics
The Next War on Drugs #245042 @anachrodragon - And another arc that is still pretty obscure with only 57 plays and 4 stars. Check it out, it's a great one.

Thanks to Bubbawheat for running this and to everyone who voted. I was honored to have my arc be nominated and voted for, and I apologize for not voting myself-- I've been really busy and just didn't have time to run MA arcs after the awards were announced.

Edit: and yes, congrats to all the winners!

Whoo! Drakule finally pulls out a win!

And I can't believe I'm the only one that voted for Task Force Mutternacht.

Congratulations to all of the winners. Was sick for a while so I didn't get to finish playing everything so I could vote myself.

Congrats to everyone who won and a big thank you to those who voted for my arcs. The biggest thank you goes to Bubbawheat of course for taking the time to do all the work and provide the prizes.

Over these past few weeks I've been busy on a new arc and it's turned into a real headache - things I wanted couldn't be done, second-guessing so many choices I made and retooling (I still have literally pages of notes to go through, argh), etc. etc. etc. And then when it would get to me and I just HAD to take a break and actually PLAY THE GAME, I was just soloing some Winter Event stuff. Combine all that with the fact I usually only get to play maybe an hour a day and... I didn't ever get around to playing these voting. I feel like I was taking advantage of this contest and yet not actually participating in it, and it's a cheesy feeling.

Well, enough of that. For the foreseeable future, when I just have to get away from the endless salt mine of the new arc, I'm going to take my toon (whom I'm now pretty good at soloing with, heh), and I'm going to play me some arcs, these and others.

I'm glad to see you posted the winners from last year as well, I was wondering if that list was still around. I think those and this year's should be posted in a sticky (assuming these all aren't already on someone else's list of good arcs) so that as time goes by and we face another person posting something about how there's never anything good to play in AE, we can point them in that direction.

Again, thank you to everyone.

Somewhat of a bonus prize for Talos Vice.

If any of the other winners are interested, I would be happy to do something similar for their arcs. Just move the discussion over to my other thread: On Your M-Arc to request one.

Gratz to the winners, and Gratz to the sub-winners!

And thanks to the folks who played and commented on my arc, the lowest-ranking arc of any of the categories (woot 6th place, it's like elementary school Phys Ed all over again)! More than your votes, I appreciate your time.

Congratulations to the winners!

I'm a little disappointed in Tomorrownauts' poor showing, though to be fair I don't personally consider it a "comedy", so maybe it would have done better in another category.

Oh well, I suppose I should write a new arc to be eligible for next year :P

Astoria in D Minor, a horror arc. Arc ID: 41565 - The Beating Heart of Astoria: A Play in Five Acts. Arc ID: 170547 - Ignition of the Machine, a story with robots. Arc ID: 318983

Thanks for running this Bubbawheat! I wish I could have contributed, but some staffing issues over the festive season plus endless travel meant I couldn't get through even one set of contenders.

I echo Cheshire that my story was in the wrong category, so would definitely not meet expectations. Better to judge an arc by its arc description. But on the other hand it did get me at least 3 plays, and some nice comments about its lowbie tale too in this forum.

It's that last little bit that has me inclined to write another story as time permits. Thanks ArrowRose, Coulomb, LaserJesus and anyone else whose forum comments I missed

Forgot to post this here as well when I finished it... and also doesn't hurt to bring this back to the front page for a bit. As I called it a few posts up, call this a bonus prize for the winning arcs.

Trailer for Golden Age Secret of the Paragon Society.

and as I didn't really spell out what it was above.

Trailer for Talos Vice.

I think I would like to continue these, for the other winners, let me know if it's ok to do one for your arc. It may take a while, but I'll hopefully get them all done.

Funnily enough I was already half-thinking of asking if you'd like to do one of mine. Of all my arcs, WickerWork Khan seems to be the most popular so it would make sense, too, so I guess I'll toss my panda bear into the ring, if you're up for it.

That'll also give me an excuse to go back over the text too; lately whenever I'm working on an arc it seems like if I go back over the text (word choice, etc) anywhere more than a week later, I'm always finding ways to make it better, pluss cachting teh ood spellinfg erorr ro typi..
