Best Heroic or Vigilante:
1) A Very Special Episode #457506 by @Wrong Number
2) When The Words Stop #494099 by @Clave_Dark_5 -
It's clear from this data that MA has went the way of the dodo and that the dev's have abandon it except to slap in new maps/foes here and there. A real shame too.
-
Why on earth does this thread not have a sticky on it???
-
I found this out the hard way also. I'd add that many of the early dev's choice arcs and most of the Hall of Fame are not worth your time. There are many great arcs out there that are far better but they didn't have the gold ticket of being in closed beta or an early publish date. I recommend checking out Police Woman's list, Arrow Rose's list or the nominated arcs from the Player's Choice awards.

Playing through the arcs others had nominated definitively unearthed some gems I had not found before. I recommend them all! -
Fire's jargon was not a mystery to me at all, but it was a fun little read anyways.
IMHO the bigger mystery is why some dev has not yet Dev's Choiced this arc. Hello....McFly....anybody home? -
I think I19 has breathed new life into the game in general. I've definitively seen more people on on average.

My picks.

Quote:I agree with this, though I did only play 7-8 arcs. It's the only arc of the ones that I played that actually surprised me and that I replayed again (to see what I missed). Overall my assessment of the arcs I played was that they were all very good. I think that everyone "brought it" this time around. If I had to pick a favourite, it would be Wrong Number's arc.

People are going to farm and if MA is not an option they will just go back to repeating Dreck type missions (whichever works best for their character). I don't think the Devs have a problem with that type of "farming" since it has always existed, but it is the exploits they, rightfully take issue with and if you think about it for a second it makes total sense. The game needs to make money and if people can get to 50 in an afternoon it is very likely going to cost them.
One of the sad side effects of the exploits is that many causal players hear "they nerfed AE and the exp sucks now" and think it relates to all of AE and not just whatever exploit was corrected. This causes many people to ignore AE and they are missing out on some really great content. Having played this game for over 5 years now, I can say that AE is one of the greatest and most fun things this game has to offer. It just needs some cleaning out of abandon arcs, a better search engine and an image makeover.

Wrong Number,
I replayed this because you said you completely changed the last mission. All I can say is wow. Seriously, I don't want to give anything away, but great, great addition to the arc. I also noticed a few other changes to the arc and they imho were good changes. I found one very minor typo (you left a "." off the end of a sentence) which I sent you in game.

Happy Birthday!

I had a chance to play this today and I really enjoyed it. Having Statesman be the one that lost his powers and then having him deal with a low level hero for help was certainly interesting.
I felt like a true aspiring hero after this arc.

I like bronze rolls 30-35. You still get Steadfasts, Eradications, Karma, etc. and can also get lots of the higher level good stuff.

Does not seem like much in the way of activity here so I'm not sure if this thread is still used. Anyways, my nominee for Dev's Choice is:
The Golden Age Secret of the Paragon Society by @wrong number ID#344596
Why? Because it really captures the feel of a classic golden age story, it is engaging with some great characters and is a very polished well written arc. -
Best New Arc
2 points = @Jail.Bird The New Paragon Society Reborn #355351
1 point = @FredrikSvanberg Fear And Loathing On Striga #350522
Best Author

1 point = @Celestial Nemesis -
Quote:I didn't say you could not find them if you looked. My point is they are not even prominently listed or given any place of honor (like at the top of this forum). So, the odds of a random person coming across them is slim.Nominees list: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=196272

They certainly should have gotten something. At least the Player's Choice Award winners and nominees did get stickied in a post. It's hard to even find the Official Awards nominees list anymore and that is really weaksauce. I still don't understand why they weren't all made Dev's Choices since they were all played and selected by Dev's, maybe even more than one Dev which is better than any of the existing ones had to do.

Another part of the problem is that the names given for each rating are misleading. Four Stars says the arc is "Excellent". Anyone giving that rating I bet think that they are giving the arc a positive boost when in fact they are damaging any chance that arc has of being played. The shorter version is that any rating lower than a 5 decreases an arcs chance of being played and that is just a very poor system. I am certain that most players do not think they are hurting an arc by giving it four stars.

Quote:2009 Player Choice Awards, now available in extra sticky.
Looks like I've got a lot of arcs to run!
It is great that they stickied this thread. Bubbawheat and all the people that worked on it did a awesome job with it.
Now, the thing I find incredibly ironic is that the people that were nominated for the 2009 Player Choice Awards have now gotten tons more respect than the players who were nominated for the official First Annual Architect Awards run by the devs. I can't even find the thread with those guys arcs listed in it anymore. It just boggles my mind. -
I was sad to hear this too (despite the generous stuff he gave me!). Good luck wherever you land!
-
I had hoped I would be able to be able to play all the arcs in more categories, but RL comes before CoH. These are the ones I did manage to get done.
