Doctor Who Christmas Special 2010 on BBCA on Christmas

I have a feeling that my original thread didn't garner enough attention due to a poor choice of title.

In short this year's special will be shown on BBC America about 7 hours after it is shown in the UK, uncut, not sure if commercial free (somehow doubt it).

Christmas, 9p EST, BBC America. Amy dressed up in her sexy police women outfit, but that doesn't have anything to do with the plot.

Oh and to make this thread special. Matt Smith was on the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson middle of November. Well Craig Ferguson did this elaborate opening of the show, a Doctor Who song and dance number with puppets, a pantomime horse, two hot women in 60s garb and a Dalek. Of course it was cut and not broadcast.

But when did that stop any video from getting out onto the interwebs.

Edit: YouTube play list of the cut opening and Matt's segment.

Yeah, the Craig Ferguson thing was awesome. I think he had the Dalek on his show for that entire week, too, just kind of looming near the Robot Skeleton.

And it's certainly nice to see BBCA getting the Doctor in a timely fashion. If only the same would occur with things like Sherlock and Dirk Gently rather than their usual incessant stream of Top Gear, Gordon Ramsay, and Star Trek:TNG (and, of course, Doctor Who repeats - I think I've seen Doomsday and that traffic episode twenty times this week).

I will be sure to record it.

It's pretty much the same on native BBC. A few one off quality dramas and then the same repeats over and over again. But of course, they never repeat anything you actually want to watch. Still, I love the Beeb.

We'll be getting Doctor Who at 18:30 over here but I won't be around to post spoilers as I'll be entertaining the relatives. Enjoy.

To add to the Christmas Special airing, they are also showing Doctor Who at the Proms at 1 pm.

If you're going to be recording it, I recommend setting your DVRs to record some extra time at the end... Since it's an extra-long episode, it's possible it might run over a bit. Better to be safe.

Indeed. On my digital guide it appeared to be 10-15 minutes over the hour slot. I didn't pay attention to the exact time, however.

My guide says 1 hour 20 minutes and then a 40 minute Christmas Special for Graham Norton with Matt Smith as a guest.

Urgh, as much as I like Matt, I don't think I could stomach Norton for that long.

I expect one of the extras to be a trailer for the next series which would be nice.

I will not spoil. I shall simply say this:

You are in for the greatest New Doctor Who special they have ever made, in my opinion. It's got all the slickness, style and fun of best Moffat epsiodes.

You are in for a second treat too.

The preview for the new series.

Definitive Christmas watching.

Enjoy.

Oh yeah! Best Doctor Who special in a while! Loved everything about it. Again, no spoilers. It was just great!

And again, the preview for the next series. Looks like we'll see the Ood, weird looking dolls and... Slender Man?

Awesome special, brilliant stuff. It's classic Moffat; great pacing, brilliant dialog, and very funny.

The preview for the next season looks great too.

Enough padding.

Ok, we definitely saw, River Song again, a green eyed Ood and I think what was the tardis-like room from the James Corden/Flatmate episode.

Also saw what looked like the Three Musketeers, Nazi Secret Service, a cowboy setting, Men In Black, The Doctor sat in the Presidents chair in the oval Office, a grey alien in a suit......and evil porcelain dolls??

Looks amazing fun!

For us statesiders.

Really enjoyed the Dr. Who at the Proms. Looks like everyone (the audience and the cast) had a ton of fun. The regeneration segment was especially good.

I loved it, it was really well done. Had great fun.

Wow that was a great Doctor Who! I loved the shark buggy. ( hmmm, wonder if I can get an avatar of that)

Abigail was quite a bit of alright. I had missed the snarky and beautimus Ms. Pond as well. That was some very nice singing as well.

Dickens' story is just one of those that will live forever. I can easily imagine five hundred years from now having that story repeated in some form. Provided of course, that humanity is still around and Farenheit 451 doesn't happen in the intervening years.

Great, although the BBC UK vs BBC USA broadcasts are at last in sync, it looks like iPlayer vs iTunes availability is not. Those of us without TVs are going to have to find alternate means of watching this.

That's because iPlayer is a service provided to license payers for free with the purpose of letting people catch up on missed TV. iTunes however is a store, so they won't get it until around the time the DVDs come out.

Still, must suck for you.

Rather than "jumped the shark" can we now say "flew the shark"?

I didn't hate or like the episode. Disappointed that we'll probably never find out about that Egyptian goddess.

That's pretty much just Doctor Who in general.

That pseudo Tardis from last season seemed like too big of a thing yet it was kind of brushed aside like it was a one episode thing. At least that is the impression that I got from it. Still though, I always knew it was something too big to not bring back in the end. Glad it was in the preview so I know that I was right about it coming back.
