What is this thing?
If you can't figure out what key makes it appear, I'm going to say it's a sequence of keystrokes that does it. Try the Konami Code with WASD?
Quote:
Argentines love to talk. They communicate directly, openly and often loudly. In Argentina there is no taboo in the use of foul language. A respectable old woman will swear like a sailor and no one bats and eye. Fools are not suffered lightly and anyone behaving in a pretentious or obnoxious manner will be sharply reprimanded, sometimes with just a simple gesture of the hands. Political correctness does not exist in Argentina because it would only impede getting your point across. If you are a little overweight your nickname might be el Gordo, or if you have a dark complexion they might call you Negro or if you happen to be of Polish descent, el Polaco. No offense is intended, none is taken and there is no false morality to confuse the issues. It is evident when Argentines communicate with one another that their freedom of speech is real. Although Argentines are extremely patriotic and will not hesitate to tell you that their country has the tallest mountains, the tastiest beef, the most beautiful women, the finest wine and the best soccer players in the world, they will also be quick to point out that their country is run by corrupt politicians and is full of bullshitters and crooks. The truth is which country isnt?, but Argentines in particular always seem to be just as aware of their own shortcomings as well as they are of others. This keen sense of discernment is illustrated by the vast quantity of words used to accurately describe an idiot, a braggart, a liar, a scam or the quality of anything from personal character to household appliances. The Argentines use these words with such frequency and passion that the unsuspecting foreigner will eventually have to ask what is a boludo and why cant I find it in my Spanish dictionary? |
...apart from that pesky "Spanish" part...
...and the possibility that your Generalissmo might start another war with
the Brits again someday...
That said, living in Arizona, Spanish is already very prevalent (just walk
into any Burger King in the state), and heck, the good-ole-USA will war
with any and all comers at a moment's notice anyway, so I guess those
two items are really only minor issues, now that I think about it a bit.
As for the original question, I have no idea. I've never seen it, but it most
reminds me of "playback controls" of some sort of graphics debugging tool.
I'll be curious to see what it turns out to be...

I've had that appear 2 or 3 times myself. No clue what it is, have never seen the 'off' button. I've just shut game down and reloaded.

Out of curiosity, are any of those buttons/boxes clickable? Or are they static and dont' change/aren't clickable?

Maybe we'll get some more ideas on what it actually doesor is possibly doing (if anyting) if you give us a little more information on what AT/set you're playing, when it happens (you said when you're fighting, but are you Hovering or anyting like that?), or if anything else is going around your computer (are you performing voodoo love ritual summoning at the time?).

Very rarely I'll use other keys, but those are my "core" gameplay keys. Maybe it's a combination with some other key that I'm accidentally hitting.

Thanks to @EnsonsDeath for the GVE code that made me VIP again!
I'm suspecting if you had some sort of "debugging" flag or build, those buttons would do more. You checked the COH executable - did you see any new or interesting log/data/debug files anywhere that aren't on the others? That value change as you do anything?
I'm really curious about what this does now.
Not something I've seen before, but if they ever came up with a toolbar method for demorecording, I'd be on it like white on rice.

Okay, with all the responses here, it's starting to sound like it's an actual, bonafide dev tool that's leaking out. I've never seen it myself, but whatever it is it looks like it has "For the devs" written all over it.
I didn't get annoyed until the strings dump from Process Explorer was put in question. If I were faced with that, I would not think "that person's computer has some malware that is specifically targeting COH's executable". That's a stretch. I would look for those strings in my copy of the program (we all have COH) and see that they in fact are there.
The very first thing I did when I first saw this window was to md5sum my COH executable and compare it with the executable in 2 other computers to ensure it hadn't been tampered with. If I thought my computer was infected by anything, I wouldn't even waste time running a full antivirus scan: I'd boot up Ubuntu, use it to back up my personal folders, and reinstall Windows from scratch. I don't trust "cleaning" a computer that's been compromised, I go for the nuclear option to ensure safety. |
I am extremely direct in my way of communication. If that makes me a jerk, then apparently I know a lot about it. Let me quote you a book: In other words: cultural thing. You'll consider every last argentine a jerk. We don't tiptoe around with words. I am actually a lot more careful with words in this forum than I ever am in real life, and I still manage to offend people from time to time. |
You're not direct, you're just overly agressive when it wasn't called for and yes you act like a total jerk in this situation.
I'm Dutch, we're direct too. Cultural thing.

If I had to guess, this is an animation debug tool used to record and adjust, step by step, the animations, animation speed, and movement of an entity.
Developers don't name libraries randomly, and it's clear to me, from the path used, that this is a debug tool of some kind. The actual buttons shown seem to be related to the animations, what with Vel likely being shorthand for Velocity.
Since this thread was resurrected, I'll just note that I encountered this bar for the first time this weekend during a raid. Was a bit too busy to tinker with it much before it disappeared.

Someone asked about that a couple years ago, if I recall correctly. I definitely recall the look of that. Something Dev-related that accidentally shows up every now again.

Ditto! I have somehow managed to get that same thing at the bottom of my screen a couple times and have no idea what combination of keys strokes I accidental hit to make it appear. It always goes away eventually so I just chalk it up to me being in a hurry and being a typo queen,

yea i had that same display pop on my screen once i was on a Lambda sector trial..
Question how do i fix my image picture. xD
Again, this is part of the COH executable (look inside the .exe). Fuzzy Kittens above replied that they've also seen it.

Can't say for sure, but that's my speculation.
In addition to the above speculation, Vel appears to be Velocity. Perhaps a tool to create clones for testing?
Patch Notes on Test says that they fixed this so it stops randomly showing up on player's screens.

It could be that this team is working on a similar tool to help them make cutscenes and videos more rapidly-- the back and forward views could be used to track (and with other toolbars modify) what appeared to happen.) and this UI somehow slipped out "into the wild."
Generally speaking, internal tools don't get nearly the same visual treatment as user-side tools, which would explain the different appearance....
