Was not sure the right area to ask this but I need a buddy key so I can decide between this and co.
Well so far I am not really impressed with co, while I did enjoy cox before I had a hard time sticking with a char and got bored with repetitive missions but allot has changes since then.
I tried so many archtypes and combos, just cannot find my sweet spot. Rolling alts is fun though but not fun after a while, the good news is now I can play warshades and peacekeepers, I have always wanted to since they are kind of the jack of all trade types in this mmorpg.
The sad part is I am to use to fantasy mmorpg roles, this one is so differant, I have tried asking in the forums and just having a hek of a time, I really want something that starts blooming early, I hate waiting on to see how good I am till late levels, did that with my ill/rad controller and ended up not liking it after it got allot better, to much waiting on clickies, well except healing maybe but I prefer other clickies more.

Now, regarding your comment above: You sound like you want to feel powerful within the first bunch of levels. I recommend a Scrapper or Blaster if you're starting as a hero, and a Dominator or Brute if you're starting as a villain. High damage archetypes are a bit one dimensional (since dealing damage is their one intended purpose from level 1 to level 50), but if that's what you like doing, I say go for it. (My favorite archetype is the blaster, so I know where you're coming from.)
If you don't like waiting around for powers to recharge, then I recommend picking up Hasten (from the Speed power pool) early on in your character's career and/or slotting your powers for recharge. Also, it should be noted that i19 is expected to be released about November 30th, and with it comes the inherent fitness power pool. In other words, starting at level 2, you will have 4 auto-powers that will increase your speed, jump height, health regeneration rate, and endurance recovery rate, all of which will greatly improve the playing experience of the first 20 levels or so.
@Winter. Because I'm Winter. Period.
I am a blaster first, and an alt-oholic second.
I agree with Winterminal's suggestions on archtypes (Although, yes, Warshade could be great for you as well!).
My sweet spot is the Electric/Electric Blaster.
I can shoot things at range and up close, pound them with powerful melee attacks, immobilize and hold enemies, drain their endurance... And I enjoy the thrill of being somewhat of a glass cannon, in that Blasters have low hitpoints and little-to-no-defense.
They sometimes call the all Electric Blaster the Blaptroller, because you Shoot like a Blaster, Punch like a Scrapper and Control like a Controller (Obviously to smaller degrees).
So, that powerset combo is another option that is somewhat of a Jack of many trades (not all).
Scrappers (And Brutes) are a lot of fun, very strong and survivable.
All of these archtypes, obviously, have a lot of options within them between the different powersets. So, different powersets can be different stories as to what they do well or best.
I've heard that Electric Melee/Shield Defense Scrappers are quite powerful.
Honestly, pick just about any combination and you'll do well.
I love my Dark Melee/Regeneration Scrapper. And am enjoying a Martial Arts/Super Reflexes Scrapper.
If you don't want to be worried with having to struggle to survive as much as a Blaster does, Scrappers (And Brutes are very similar... a little more defense and very slightly less damage overall [at least, on average]) just might be for you.
It may not work for you, but my advice is to imagine a character, something that seems fun to you and maybe even something with a bit of a backstory to it... And then realizing that character in-game turns into a whole new level of fun.
EDIT:
Oh, and Blasters' and Scrappers and Brutes (And Dominators too, I suppose) are primarily about dealing damage. So, you get your attacks early on and should be more effective and powerful and fun for what you are describing as your interests.
Starting off as a Controller may have been a bad thing for you. For some, it is their favorite and may have been the best move for them, but the great aspect of variety in this game can sometimes have bad results, as people try out things that aren't well suited to their tastes.

While this is good advice I usually cannot get into simplier characters I need an archtype that makes you think in teams atleast, I was thinking something with kinetics but I have no idea which of at for that would be what I am looking for.
I have yet to try all the scrappers never been heavy into melee but that is in fantasy games could be differant here, I pride versatility the most though it doesnt have to be extremly versatile but fairly.
Tried a defender?
They have ranged-combat attack powers, and their support/team play is undeniable.
I have a Kin defender (as you seemed interested on it), and I have lots of fun with it.
And remember... the complete edition of going rogue also gives one month of subscription. When its cybermonday, that deal will be unbeatable. 9.99 for the GR complete AND 1 month of playing time, and for a price bellow the subscription.

Yes. I can get lost on a straight-line map.
Yes that is an excellent deal, I found defenders have a lack of damage so far but I havent tried very many.
Goodbye. Not to the game, but the players. Goodbye. Everyone, remember to have fun. That's all I can say.
On "Cyber Monday" Best buy has a good deal on the Complete Edition ($10), and the CE also comes with a month's sub and the $7 costume pack, so the real price of the expansion at "full price" is $18-$25.

The "real price" of the Complete Edition with the Black Monday deal is $9.99 + (possible) tax + (possible) shipping.
The real VALUE is $29.99 + (possible) tax + (possible) shipping + $10-$15 free month + $7 costume pack.

For example, Rad/Sonic Defenders can solo Giant Monsters. Then again Sonic Blast is considered the highest damage output secondary for Defenders.
One of the fairly recent additions is that Defenders now get a damage bonus solo that diminishes with additional teammates until it becomes zero with four or more teammates, which makes soloing even easier than it used to be.

i make stuff...
And what is this about other power sets? There are only 2 power sets with the expansion.
|
Two were released early for pre-purchasers - Demon Summoning and Dual Pistols. The other two were not released until GR itself was - Kinetic Melee and Electric Control.
Total of four - gives a new set to each of the 10 basic archetypes.
Yes that is an excellent deal, I found defenders have a lack of damage so far but I havent tried very many.

Two - recently Vigilance had a small damage buff added for solo/small team play for defenders. Defenders get a 30% damage bonus, -10% for each of the first three teammates the defender has.
I have a problem with either your math or your wording.

EDIT: although since that $19.99 includes a free month, that should probably be removed from the original list.
@Roderick
Other than re-upping your account (Or starting a new one), I don't think there is any way to hop on and check things beyond the Free Trials.

In any case, 9.99 that includes a FREE month, is a literal steal IMO. And if the OP wants to gripe about 9.99 WITH a free month, then something tells me he/she is just here to argue.

If I played any mmo then I wont be paying some limited free to play version so if there is still free 30 says gold membership wont be a waste.
What do you mean by trial keys? Is it as limited as the free trial? And while those powers are interesting it is still steep plenty of expansions I have paid for that price had loads more content, and I am no really interested in those power sets anyways, and yes the poster above pointed out on cyber monday but like I said that is a while from now. |
Edit: You said you have an old account. I don't know how long it's been since you've played the game but there are 2 to 3 free expansions every year. There is a lot of new content that you probably haven't even seen that makes this game more and more amazing all the time. Sure, Praetoria only goes to level 20 right now but it will eventually open up to level 50 just like the rest of the game. When CoV first came out it didn't go up to level 50 either. Grandville didn't even exist at that time. That's the great thing about CoX it's ever-evolving and most of the new content is free.
Ok first of all I doubt some of you actually read the part where i said 40 dollars is not worth it in my opinion, and that is my opinion you cannot change that I could care less if your going to take offense over it and insult me.
Now 9.99 is very worth it, and yes I am impatient so what? That is who I am and I am bored and do not want to have to keep creating free trials just to play the game.
If you do not like my views then do not read them that simple.
In your opinion it isnt worth. In the opinion of many others it is. None is wrong, all are right. You asked something subjective, and you wont get anything better than that.
I am sorry if you dont want to wait until day 29 to get it with the low price. But that its a personal issue thats all yours to solve, not something that we could help you with.
Hope you will decide what to do. And maybe someday youll walk the streets of Nova Praetoria, wielding your dual pistols with pride while trying to defeat the Tyrant Hold of the Loyalists...

Yes. I can get lost on a straight-line map.
Look you guys are being rude to me in some ways, you kind of remind me of a certain community of a certain mmo I cannot stand and all that will do is keep new players away, I am glad some of you enjoy those powers sets I can see it being worth 40 bucks to you and thats fine, but for me since I am not interested in the new power sets all thats left at this point is 1-20 content and to me that is not worth 40 bucks but it doesnt matter since it is 9 bucks that is a great deal for 1-20 content and future but unlike some of you I plan on going to other mmorpgs later maybe dc universe or star wars.
I do not even know if I will enjoy this mmo after a month anyways but for some reason you all insist on being jerks to me about my own opinion of what the expansion is worth, enough is enough back off ok?
And on the note about having to wait I never said I would not wait I said I need an online game to play, I will get bored only playing some of my single player games, so I was trying to find an alternative I never demanded it I asked nicely but you just threw it in my face like the jerks you are.
The correct meaning is I did not want to wait good god.
Dude, if you don't want to pay for it, then don't. If you don't want to wait, look for a trial or a free to play game. I think I saw a commercial saying LOTRO is F2P now (or maybe it always was? I have no idea). Everyone's not trying to be jerks, they're just pointing out that the expansion price includes a lot more than you mentioned at first (just 1-20 content).
