40bucks it a little steep for an expansions with only 1-20 content so if possible I would like to see more of the game and try out some characters beyond level 14, I would greatly appreciate this, and I do have an old account from long ago would I have to make a new account or can I use my old one?

Its not only 1-20 content. It seens so, but it opens both sides contents to all toons (with the tips/morality system).
It also gives you access to Demon Summoning and Dual Pistols, and they are awesome sets.
And its also the base of the Incarnate stuff, so it enhances everything that is to come for the game.

If you have an old account, and still has access to it, just upgrade that account with the expansion.

They haven't given out the traditional buddy keys in a long time - they've just trial keys.

Yes, you can try reactivating your old account - it is still good.

On "Cyber Monday" Best buy has a good deal on the Complete Edition ($10).The CE also comes with a month's sub and the $7 costume pack which those who bought the "Expansion only" didn't get.

Even if you buy it after the sale at the full price of $40 what you pay is more along the lines of $18-$25.

By the way, buying CO now is kind of a waste, as it's going "Free2Play" soon.

If I played any mmo then I wont be paying some limited free to play version so if there is still free 30 says gold membership wont be a waste.

What do you mean by trial keys? Is it as limited as the free trial?

And while those powers are interesting it is still steep plenty of expansions I have paid for that price had loads more content, and I am no really interested in those power sets anyways, and yes the poster above pointed out on cyber monday but like I said that is a while from now.

Ok... Let me rethink about this:

If you have GR:

1) You can create toons with exclusive powersets(and they are awesome looking).
2) You have access to a whole new area (1-20 for now, but more coming in the few next issues), with lots of good story-arcs.
3) Your heroes or villains can run the morality missions, being able to change their status and go to the other side, getting the chance to access the other side content.
4) You also gain the morale exclusive power after playing the morality mission of your alignment.
5) You can run the incarnate arc and the incarnate TFs, further enhancing your end-game content.
6) Probably every issue from now on will have some content GR-Only. And If you dont have it, you wont be able to run it.

My question is just how long have you been away from the game? If you need "a sneak peek" more inclusive than the free trial, my guess is a pretty long time.

CO is to CO* is to what oranges are to hand grenades. They are much different animals. The Going Rogue expansion is loaded with new things to do for low level and High level characters. Many posters above had given many examples of GR content that you say doesn't interest you. What exactly is it that you are interested in?

I suggest you head over to Paragonwiki.com and look at not only the free issues history but read over the GR content as well.

Yeah they've been talking about it for a while now. I was even invited to their "beta test" for it.
Ironically I gave up on CO so hard over a year ago now that I wouldn't even go back to it for free.

Heya!
You can absolutely use your old account (If you remember the info and/or it was banned or anything, hehe)!

It is a shame you missed it... They just had a reactivation weekend where you could have logged into your old account for free.
Other than re-upping your account (Or starting a new one), I don't think there is any way to hop on and check things beyond the Free Trials.
And yeah, the Free Trial is rather limited (It's great how it stops RMT spammers and stuff from bothering us, but it does put major limitations on legitimate potential customers).

If you can afford the $15, I suggest re-upping the old account and hop on to check things out.
If you do, post here and let everyone know. I am sure you can get a bunch of help and stuff, as people around here usually fall over each other to do so, hehe.

I love the game. As you know, it's a matter of personal taste, so I'll not try to sell you on anything (I'm no good at that anyway).

For checking things out right now, you really don't need to pick up Going Rogue right away.

You'd just miss out on Starting a character in Praetoria (And seeing those zones), the four new powersets: Demon Summoning, Dual Pistols, Electric Control and Kinetic Melee.
With Power Customization and Power Proliferation, you'll find some fun new things right off the bat... Some new Task Forces, Strike Forces... Tip Missions for characters above level 20.
Probably a bunch of things I'm forgetting!

Hope you give it a try, as most usually find it to their liking!

Sorry - I misread.. when I saw "no reason to buy CO now as its going Free2Play", I thought it said COX. Thats why I was like HUH???

Guess that means for all the CO players, support will soon become crap on that game.

Thank you electric knight you just proved my point the expansion as of right now is not worth 40 dollars, later when they add more it will be but in my opinion that is a little greedy.

I am sorry if you do not like my opinion but that is my opinion regardless, if you have 40 dollars to spare good for you, I for one could go out and buy dragon age for 30 dollars or something and would be busy until I felt going rogue was worth the price.

Anyways thanks for the help all.

And what is this about other power sets? There are only 2 power sets with the expansion.

Yes but other people have already told you it'll only be $9.99 on Cyber Monday. You're obviously free to have whatever reason against it you want, but implying the only real reason you're against it is that it "costs $40" is a bit silly all thing considered.

Good luck to you regardless...

40 Dollars is NOT the price of the expansion it is the cost of the new complete package which includes the expansion.

If you are not interested at all in any of the new content for the time being than a 15 dollar cost is all it takes to re up your old sub.

You mention how you aren't interested in the GR content, which by the way is actually A LOT and sets up the foundation for the future of "the City", so the 40$ price tag shouldn't even be an issue for you. Just re-up your old account or dive in to a free trial. Your NON GR account will still play just fine and be much cheaper while not bothering you with any of that pesky new stuff.

Don't waste your time with anything Champions Online, it's throwing good money after bad. Considering their impending free status and my bias towards the City why not just get the GR expansion and count the free month included and you are already under that 40$ mark (40 minus 15) also please go and read what is actually a part of Going Rogue, it is so much more than just 2 new power sets.

Ummm well obviously the 40 dollar one is the much better deal since you get 30 days free I do not think the original expansion gives 30 days.

You could grab yourself a free trial today, that will last you a week. See if the gameplay is still something you enjoy. If it is, by this time next week, the $9.99 Going Rogue special will be only a few days away and you can purchase it. If not, then you've seen what you needed to see without spending any money whatsoever. It's a win/win.

As for CO versus CoX... First, though I never bought CO, the last time I passed it in the store it was $50, already more than the usual price for the Going Rogue expansion. Second, as some have said, it will be going F2P soon enough so you could probably wait for that if you ultimately choose that game. Finally, it too has a free trial option, so you can give it a fair shot. Ultimately the decision is up to you, but I think you will find the player community and variety of in-game content here outweigh the competitor.

If price is the only thing holding you back, like many of us have said, wait 10 days and you can get it for $10. And if you need something to do in the mean time, download the free trials of both games and weigh your options.

I have not shopped around at all since then, but I bought the Complete Collection for $29.99 at Best Buy on the day it launched.
That was a particularly nice deal.

And, as you said... you get a month's play, so... You can view it as -$15.

I'm not saying you're wrong to not feel the need to get it yet (There are other cool aspects, the costume pieces, the ability to switch sides, the content within Praetoria is expansive and fun, the ability to make Heroic Brutes or Villainous Blasters, etc), but I don't think it is really accurate to label the price as really "greedy" (But that's just my opinion, so no big deal).

For a game that has not done many paid for additions, over its 6+ years, a relatively low priced expansion is pretty reasonable.

For your interests and all, I'd suggest forking over the 15 to get a bigger taste. In ten days, if you like it, fork over 10 more dollars and, for 25 bucks, you have a full game to play for two months (50 of those days with the new expansion).
