I play characters on each of the NA servers (though I think of Virtue as home). Even with a small global friends list and even smaller server friend lists, I have no trouble finding teams on any of the servers while playing any sort of AT in no particular level range.
Some zones will look empty a lot of the time but knowing of the heavy instanced nature of the game and a few global channels (along with a server channel for your server of choice) and you should be able to swing right into the middle of things at your leisure.
The only people who can't find teams aren't trying hard enough or perhaps aren't "really" wanting to team.
Welcome to the game! This place is great. I've been here for years now on a couple of accounts and I get treated the same (warmly and welcomed) when I log in months apart from my last log in or seven nights straight. Nothing quite like that in any other MMO (and I've tried a lot).
Also,
if you're feeling pantsless try Triumph.
Also,
Do yourself a favor and regardless of whatever you've played and preferred in any other MMO, try EACH AT. A few times. And then again for good measure. There are so many possible combinations of excellence available across the board that even thinking of cookie cutting your build should be a crime worthy of a million golden winky faces. -
Quote:This.I also don't want them parading that opening mission to the Ramiel arc as a common practice either.
For all of the love I have for it, a Hell in the Cell 4 Mondays in a row makes the lil ole Steel Cage on that one special Sunday seem awfully meh.
I "kind of" agree about the feelings wading through all the show stoppers and A-List'ers ... it is kind of weird imho to go from being the Barry Horowitz of Heroes to feeling like the Undertaker in middle of a righteous push ... but to me, it's the good kind of weird.
I dig it.
I just don't want to stop digging it (which is what would happen should this ever become anything close to a regular gig). -
Quote:I think this is a beautiful idea.I guess Weather Effects will happen in I-20. Like background elements in missions (we did see a glimpse of them in the Incarnate first mission).
Maybe also having them in AE?
But Weather effects in city, mmm. Storm, rain, wind.
A crazy Idea that we might not get.. proper wind in the zone.
"A storm is headed towards Talos" - okay.. knockback effect on flying or reduced flight /travel power.
That would take weather effects to a new level.
Even with a lot of flyers on my roster, I would love it. Would there be any chance of the inverse? Like particularly nice days giving small buff to speed or perhaps even finding a wind pocket and "riding it" ... it seems like this could open up one lovely can of physics loving worms. -
Keeping all of mine in the deepest corners of my Infinite Bag of Holding.
Sometimes I sprinkle in water and food after midnight in hopes that they will multiply but as of yet I just end up with sticky shards. -
Hate to chime in so late but I thought I might have a few inf. to toss in.
None min-maxer. Most of my characters are still building IO sets (Only 2 of my characters have attained full righteousness 2 out of a kajillion mind you=/ ) and a lot still have less than 5 IOs. I don't carry shivans or the like too often (except for those aforementioned 2). My reflexes are sub par and I've been told my characters power choices some times seem "funny".
I DO on the other hand carry all but 1 of the insps I can carry and use and replace quite frequently on each and every character.
Out of the 28 characters I've done this with, I've only had a problem with ONE.
A 50 emp/sonic currently residing in Virtue, who IS one of the aforementioned 2 and his problem came from mighty midget agro to which no keyboard and mouse cables can defend themselves from and needless to say he bit the dust. Up until the five finger grab from below he was having no problem and I don't expect his next attempt to be a problem either.
I don't see how anyone has had a problem barring those suffering from RL agro or machine malfunction ... and the few that legitimately whiff the first go, assuming their eyes are still open and their pulse is still ticking away - should ace the second go all nice like.
tl:dr
"I just might suck and I've had zilch problems here. If you are having problems it's not the mission. It's you." -
One more vote for the "Black Book" idea.
Also, there should be a whole slew of temp powers like Carp Melee but personally I would swap out for the Sea Bass alternate animation. -
Quote:Thank you electric knight you just proved my point the expansion as of right now is not worth 40 dollars, later when they add more it will be but in my opinion that is a little greedy.
I am sorry if you do not like my opinion but that is my opinion regardless, if you have 40 dollars to spare good for you, I for one could go out and buy dragon age for 30 dollars or something and would be busy until I felt going rogue was worth the price.
Anyways thanks for the help all.
And what is this about other power sets? There are only 2 power sets with the expansion.
40 Dollars is NOT the price of the expansion it is the cost of the new complete package which includes the expansion.
If you are not interested at all in any of the new content for the time being than a 15 dollar cost is all it takes to re up your old sub.
You mention how you aren't interested in the GR content, which by the way is actually A LOT and sets up the foundation for the future of "the City", so the 40$ price tag shouldn't even be an issue for you. Just re-up your old account or dive in to a free trial. Your NON GR account will still play just fine and be much cheaper while not bothering you with any of that pesky new stuff.
Don't waste your time with anything Champions Online, it's throwing good money after bad. Considering their impending free status and my bias towards the City why not just get the GR expansion and count the free month included and you are already under that 40$ mark (40 minus 15) also please go and read what is actually a part of Going Rogue, it is so much more than just 2 new power sets. -
Thanks for the addendum to the answer.
I'm sorry if I gave the impression that I was worried about my personal economy, it certainly isn't the case and I tried my best to convey how much of a non issue that was. I just know that some others here possess the super mega kind of brain power that can do teh maths with the ease of a greased pig and after a discussion about the in game economy it occurred to me my actions might stretch past any intentions or lack there of ... so I asked.
I would hate to damage some part of something I hold dear, especially if it was something I was doing that I could easily change.
All me questions have been squashed, many thanks Brain Trust! -
Thank you all for your insight and opinions.
I will continue on with assurance that I am not making things harder on anyone or having some unforeseen impact down the line that my nonArcana type brain would just overlook.
Also, thanks for none of the "blah blah blah, you're doing it wrong, you need to make all teh moneyz to feel like a reel man blah blah blah" crap.
An aside, since my own personal 1INF ripple doesn't impact anyone concerning salvage - is it safe to apply the same reasoning towards enhancements (crafted and non)? Or is there a mysterious variable due to the difference? If I should start crafting (for other needs than my own IOing) were I to hypothetically march on the way I have does my minimalist pricing still stay nice and uneventful in the grand scheme?
*dear Market, I will call more often baby ... promise XOXOXOX* -
A legitimate question to all the Marketeers.
So for the last several issues worth of time I've established a habit which has left every last character I've ever made completely worry free for INF till it's time to start IOing said character (usually around 30).
My habit being to sell every non orange piece of salvage I find for 1 single INF regardless of selling price and time of the day/week (I just save the oranges till aforementioned IOing time or I find one worth more pretty pennies than I can turn my head at).
So is my market habits a bad thing to the greater good of the Market or does it not matter in the least?
A sincere question to all of the Economic geniuses found here. I would like to know if what I've been doing to make things easier on myself is/has in some way potentially made something worse for someone else.
To those who think "I'm doing it wrong because I could making SOOOO MUCH more" or some such. Please don't reply in thread, I've never tried to max it out and don't care to ... I've only tried to alleviate my preIOing INF needs, nothing more.
Thanks in advance! -
You get it fixed yet Jet?
I hope it wasn't who I think it was character wise.
An aside...
I don't like to think of a City without DragonBerry in it. What the hell kind of City would that be? Not a very good one I tell you. -
Quote:His battle cry, "Mike who?".Yes! I love it. Is he a Bots MM? I had Torgo and Prince of Space running (well, hobbling and skipping, anyway) around for a while.
He certainly is a Bots man. What else could he be after all?
With traps to boot. After all, with years worth of weekly inventions I figured Joel could make a dozen traps or so easy breezy like.
Currently Joel with the help of Gypsy,Crow,Tom and his blushing robot bride Tammy Servo are all out looking for CamBot.
CamBot and tacos.
(Also ... Torgo? Freaking excellent! Still using the name and/or character? Would love to see a screen. Just don't ask for one of Joel, there is no way to make a proper red jump suit)
-
I have a few homage characters myself.
A Doc Strange re-imagined as Dr. Curiosity. A human only form NON Kheldian PB.
A Praetorian version of one of my characters is more "Forge" than just a "Praet version of an existing hero" but I'm not sure how much homage he is in this instance versus inspiration.
One of my most pure comic book character homage characters was a tribute to "Jubilee" and despite having been rerolled from Virtue to PinnaJustiChampion (3 different Jubi versions from 3 different time line arcs) she still kicks *** and deserves her multi spots in my Alt Cave where slots are so precious I have to delete before creating)
Last and certainly not least (though I have to push the comic book lines to television and if you've ever seen the show it just as might have been a comic book) my character "Joel the Janitor" is a loving homage to the awesomeness that is Joel Hodgson/Robinson as the lone human castaway on the Satellite of Love.
-
Another one in the "sets weird rules for themselves" camp here.
If I'm having a 1 to 5 (on a 1-10 scale) amount of fun on any character after a single mission I immediately find the nearest day job and commence alting.
-If I'm not having a blast I'm just not digging it.
If on a team (PuG or not) where there is a mission/goal (RPed or not) I won't leave till the forces of nature take me down! *shakes fist skyward*
-I'm a Defender through and through no matter what the game says my AT is.
I don't believe in hide mode.
-If you took the time to /tell me I will do my damnedest to respond (assuming I didn't miss it outright) even if my response is nothing more than "I'm busy/FIGHTING!" or "I would rather not talk to you" and ignore if need be.
I can't get through character creator without some kind of inner story for the character and if a name can't be had in under eleven guesses I deem the concept backburnered.
-Even if there's nothing in my bio description yet each and every one of my characters are themselves For better or for worse, it's where I find my fun.
I always go "character idea" then power sets to fit in creation page.
-Admittedly I've not done this twice. Coming from the forums after seeing something strike my eye about this power or that temptation to take a hit off of the character creator I've started the process but could never get past the naming.
Despite loving team action for 85% of my play I will pass up PuGs for several invites if it looks like one of my friends are "about to" get something together.
-Except in non Virtue servers where my lists are much smaller so my solo/AE time skyrockets.
I've not played characters because I've been upset at some of "their" choices.
-I'm weird?
Having to delete a character to make a new character (I just won't pay for more slots although I'm looking forward to those GR slots like a ***** to kneepads) I rate all of my characters on a sliding scale of worth based upon my closeness to the character's name/concept/play time/costume.Those on the bottom of the list know it's only a matter of a time till they get voted off (barring an aberrational log in resulting in a mindblowing "11" of fun had, that will automatically save them!).
-I like to rationalize. It makes me feel better about my shameful weird rules I've set for myself.
Thank you all for making me feel a whole lot more normal and for giving my OCD some new ideas for rules I've read from you that seemed like they fell right from head. -
My most favorite memory of the Virtue server was the day they gave out infinite character slots so I could wallow in my alt-o-holism without having to leave Virtue.
Across the Virtue forum, a moment I not only still think about but has somehow found it's way into my daily lexicon was someone telling the OP to "grow a soul".
I find myself using this little beauty all the time now, without the likes of Makai I never would have discovered it's all purpose greatness. -
I miss the functioning terminals and I know others do to. It's one of those things that come up in conversation almost semi regularly and everyone involved all think that the terminals coming to life would be most excellent.
Mind you, not ala Voltron or some "Attack of the Terminals" coming to life but once again serving a purpose sort of life.Terminals that served a game/server wide purpose would be ever so lovely please and thank you. -
Quote:My wickedly cool manual only took filling out the rebate card form found inside the box, then filling out 21 surveys, dodging a 3 hour wide phone call with Comcast, and only one measly pint of blood to AT&T to get. Heck, if I keep on sending them fresh droplets, they've promised me more pages.I've been hoping the missing chapters would show me the direction to all the really cool pages where they haven't even made it to 5 digit userIDtags. Is this "welcome to the internet" manual included in the box when you buy a new computer or is the guy or gal who hooks up your broadband responsible for delivering the manual?
The average person is the average internet user. Next time you walk into a department store or supermarket, make the assumption they all have a computer. How many people in that checkout line do you think have heard of slashdot?
As for the people in the line I guess it would depend on which store and time of the day, everyone knows the average internet power user can't stand in direct sunlight for too long with out suffering massive personal debuffs.
If it's any solace at all I wish I didn't know what 4chan was and would gladly trade you 11 donuts to erase it from my memory but I'm still glad for the day someone pointed me towards /. As one who knows no delusion of superior intelligence to anything much less geniuses who leave their knowledge to be picked off the web when I need say 100plus opinions on how to "get more out of my wifi" I tend to head the /. way first more often than not.
(sideways to the topic, while personally with my experience on the superhighway of tubes I had yet to find a bunch of people who weren't /.'ers I have to admit the analogy was lacking imho, why not go for a car flavored one instead) -
Quote:Don't feel too bad, this thread has more mentions of having not heard of Slashdot than I have ever seen across the web. Maybe it's me? Maybe it's the forums and pages I frequent? ... but I'm pretty sure Slashdot is somewhere on page 1 in the "welcome to the Internet" manual at least in every edition made since the second half of the 1990's.Keep telling yourself that.
The analogy sticks.
There just ain't no way that anybody could have been on the Internet for 5 years (forum join date 2005) and NOT have heard of Slashdot. Not when New York Times has mentioned them. Not when Fox News has mentioned them. Not when CNN has mentioned them. Not when CBS, NBC, ABC, Reuters, and the Associated Press have mentioned them.
You would have to have your head buried in a lump of concrete to have been on the web for that long and never have at least HEARD somebody refer to Slashdot.
For those non /.ers out there, it's pretty much the opposite of 4chan with a pre-millennial Digg feel. Unless you're only concerned with pr0n and GlennBeck it may not be the site for you but otherwise give it a go. -
Problem resolved although now it is without the future support of manufacturer but really now, they didn't offer too much help to begin with so ...not much of a loss after all.
Thank you all so very much.

See you in game soon! Regardless of server since my raging alt-itis has me with characters across them all (no,really) but Alt-o-Holism is another topic for another thread in another section on another day. -

I am not Lady Luck. You should be able to click the link and download the drivers and just install em. The modded inf file is already incorporated in the executable
[/ QUOTE ]
Looks like I just missed you, I was PMing you while you were replying to me. The link returns a 404 error and I have tried it in FF ,latest release build and I8 with all page permissions active. -

You can try these drivers. I have good luck in the past with this website and my toshiba laptop with the 7900gs mobile drivers

that is actually "the" site ... I just wasn't too sure about inf. files and the like so I figured I would need to ask for help there ... can I just install this from your link?
Lady Luck, is that you?
<<Thanks CoX Community =) for all the Help, regardless of how it works out rest assured I am well reminded why it is I always come back here (or at least try to!)>> -
Well, don't I feel like a blundering dolt ... seems I can't even get successfully registered at that site PMed to me thanks to my a) incomplete knowledge of my system and b)failure to even enter in correctly the information I do know - BUT I have emailed the sites admin and once hopefully registered can post in their forums for specific how to with their driver download.
Looks like a few savvy points have flown the nest but on the plus side I think I have pulled out more than enough hair to balance that out ...oh wait, bald doesn't equal savvy- oops. -
[ QUOTE ]
Gee, that would be frustrating. We've looked at a bunch of software (driver) causes, but you haven't mentioned whether you've checked that the hardware isn't reporting problems.
Have you looked under Control Panel - System - Hardware - Advanced - Device Manager - Display Adapters? There should be a listing for your display adapter there, you sound pretty savvy, and you may have been to this screen many times to uninstall / reinstall the drivers, but are there any hardware conflicts reported? Any yellow warning exclamation marks or red X's? Is the device listed as Enabled? In any of these circumstances your lappie is going to try and use it's onboard video which would fail abysmally at running this game or any other.
Also, how often do you reboot your laptop, perhaps there were some changes made a couple of weeks ago, but the problem only occurred when you rebooted?
Finally, ya might want to double check that this service is running:
O23 - Service: NVIDIA Display Driver Service (NVSvc) - NVIDIA Corporation - C:\WINDOWS\system32\nvsvc32.exe
Look for nvsvc32.exe on your Task Manager list of processes. It should be running but using virtually no resources.
[/ QUOTE ]
Excellent, I had checked the former and all is well but the latter never crossed my mind. I'm probably not as savvy as you give me credit for but thanks =) what I do have on my side is usually knowing if I actually get something or if I have a lot left to understand which apparently today doesn't fit very well between people who think they know everything and those that are happy to know nothing =/.
I will search my tasks to make sure that is running and also got a PM from someone suggesting a link to a "third party" site that seems like it might have potential even if it is on the intimidating side and modded inf. files mean just as much greek to me as the first page worth of reports in this thread.
No help from Sony, No help from NVIDIA, yet I get tons of help from people from the very game world I am trying to get into - I have to admit I'm gonna be that much more miffed if it turns out I can't make this work.
Wish me luck - and I'm off !!!!.................*insert zoom sound here=)* -

I feel your pain BigBlue. I take it you play the game on the laptop's own built-in monitor? You don't have a multi-screen set-up or another monitor attached?
From memory Sony Vaio's have an application in the system tray to set output to single or multiple display, are these settings appropriately set to single display?
[/ QUOTE ]
My usage is about 60/40 own laptop display/ SonyTV doubling for larger monitor. I don't have a system tray button for it but I do have it set to clone my display so it reads as a single screen mirrored.I'm beginning to feel like a [censored] seeing as how I I had resubbed both the Mrs and my account for a 3 month cycle and for some reason I expected more than a couple of weeks out of the time.
...and like a sucker I keep trying to load City, even in safe mode like its going to make a difference the 30th time
[/ QUOTE ]
Definately set it to single display (monitor only), I had an issue of the game not loading/running uber-slow when set to clone. I have a desktop PC with a different NVidia card, but still, absolutely something I'd try.
I also have had a look for an updated driver for your model of laptop, you're not missing anything, you're right about Sony Vaio's being an exception to the Nvidia driver update, and the Sony site has nothing new for your model either.
Don't feel bad, it's a glitch, where there's a will there's a way!
[/ QUOTE ]
Thanks for the motivation and I tried your suggestion, in fact I tried it twice just out of the odd since of obsession being desperate has put me under ... no difference=(.
I've even got support tickets out with Sony although their first response was to suggest one of the very things I had mentioned in my support ticket as something "tried with no success". In case you are curious I even went as far as to try their suggestion (yet again) to the much familiar no success.(their suggestion being to uninstall then reinstall the driver listed from them.)
*Insert a resounding GRRRRRRRRR!!! here* -
