You do realise you're neither cute nor funny when you say things like that, right?

Well, the truth isn't always cute or funny

Let's be honest here- we've all met some Americans who were NOT mentally handicapped, and perfectly nice, yet were completely unable to hold a coherent conversation with someone else on a detailed, multiple talking point topic. Ie: <removed> is brought up, you try to make arguments for either side- the other person, when asked how they feel about it sums up everything with a simple dogmatic statement in a blank stare- "<removed> is wrong!" without explaination as to why. They can't form a coherent argument for or against things. At best, they follow up with "because X (insert God, my momma, pundit name) said so!", or even better "It's just wrong!". They can't discuss an idea at a level beyond actual good/bad words, or discuss whys.
I'm not making a caricature of my citizens. There are people THAT DIM. That hold normal lives, no mental handicaps. They just can't think critically, either because they don't know why they have to, or because they were raised not to.
Just became even more relevant.

i can understand being utterly ignorant of developments in the real world regarding machine intelligence and how minds function, and even comic book conventions in that regard, but it's how GG proudly trumpets her total inability to provide any reasoning at all as proof of the correctness of her assorted faiths* that provides so much facepalm material in these threads. Hell, her assertions about machine intelligence contradict almost all relevant lore in the real and fictional, especially comic book fictional, worlds.

*If the only support you provide for a position comes down to "I know it's true because it just is" then your contribution to almost any discussion is noise with no signal. Also, believing something is true with no proof is the definition of faith.
...i'm stating the obvious again, aren't i?

Dr. Todt's theme.
i make stuff...

A machine can never have a soul - no matter how advanced a robot is, it's still always going to be a parody of a real person - it'll always lack the life spirit of genuine living creatures.

Humans don't have a soul either, so what's your point?

Then just what are humans? Other than a sack of meat and assorted base elements with insanely complex 'programming'? How do we not know that, in future, sentient machines complete with their own equivelants of souls might become a reality?

Heck; define what a soul is, other than a non-provable ideal?

Humans are special - they're higher than animals, just like animals are higher than any kind of robot.
A robot is nothing more than a computer.

Feel free to show me a robot that can do anything other than respond from a pre-selected set of responses
Machines can never have an imagination - they're too limited - the best they can ever do is respond to things based on the stuff we've programmed into them - they can never have emotions.

Completly ignoring the 'possibilities of the future' part of the arguement, I see. It doesn't surprise me.

Put it this way; You prove that its utterly, 100% impossible for that to EVER happen...and I'll believe you.

Oh, and you still haven't pointed out what a Soul is. And how you prove it exists. And if humans even have one. Because their the biggest, amoral bunch of *******'s I've ever seen, personally... I'd say animals are more moral.

Humans could evolve wings in the future.

That's not a valid argument

The fact we're discussing this is proof.

A "sentient" robot is just the sci-fi version of an elf or a dwarf or a dragon - a made-up creature for story purposes only.

Y'know something, GG? Your scary. In a very, very unsettling way.
If you ever came to any position of power...say, President? I'd be the first to see you unelected...or forcibly removed. Because people like you should never be in positions like that. Honestly.

Any sufficiently advanced AI would be indistinguishable from biological intelligence.

No it wouldn't - everything it said or did would be second-hand - it's be limited by what we programmed it to do.
Humans have unlimited imagination, creativity and thouhgts - a robot would never get anywhere near our abilities - it'd just be a puppet.
