Nice dodging of the questions. Basically it boils down to this:
Post: Other games graphics leave you in the dust, are you planning more than Ultra Mode? WW: Ultra mode looks nice, doesn't it? Post: CoV had way more new costumes than Going Rogue, what's up with that? WW: The GR costumes look nice, don't they? |
Frankly, the graphics question was a little... harsh? Not quite the right word, but graphics were just updated, and done so in a way that older systems could still run the game. Basically, that question trivialized something that was actually a substantial boost to the game, and also ignores that the game without Ultra mode still looked okay.
I still remember when I updated my graphics card about 1 3/4 years ago and I could turn up the graphics (that we had then) to the top. Everything looked much, much better. Ultra mode added to that, and I can't have all the buttons to 11, so things do look pretty good.
Basically, that question hit on an issue a lot of people have with graphics. Many think a new game should push any current tech to the edge, not matter if those graphics are worth it. Whereas others would prefer an interesting style, and especially one that did not require a new system every two years. Of the Zelda games in the past 10 years, the best looking is Wind Waker, even though people at the time complained about its style. Yet it will continue to age better than the more realistic looking Zelda games.
I'd rather CoX kept its own look and added on to it in ways that all players can keep up with. Heck, I'm amazed that people want MMOs to have bleeding edge graphics. I'd say CoX and WoW show that it's better to not go for that ragged edge.

Most concerned about this:
"The Incarnate System gives our high-level players more insight into what makes them, frankly, so freaking awesome but it is also a vehicle to introduce them to new high-end raids." Hamidon Raid is passable to quite fun. Cathedral of Pain is a huge pain in the neck. Sure you can blitz it in 8 minutes, or you can just be tearing your hair out. Rikti War Zone raid is great, fantastic execution there. My concern is...I hope the rewards from these are tradeable/sellable on the Market or to other players. At the very least, if the rewards are Incarnate shards or Merits, make sure other avenues exist to obtain these shards. The last thing this game needs is the raid treadmill, devolving into elitisim etc. etc...something which exists only in a small capacity in this game. |
I don't suffer from altitis, I enjoy every minute of it.
Thank you Devs & Community people for a great game.
So sad to be ending ):
Shards drop from common mobs, so you can get them in solo play, or playing any level 50 content. So they are casual friendly, even if being casual means they will take longer to get. At least no one will be able to buy their way into them.
Now if you want to join TFs and such, you'll get the same shard drops, and the option to get common... forget the term. But you need 4 or 8 shards to make one of them. Seems good and balanced to me for an endgame system.

And this points out the best way to make this system work. Do a few TF's, make a boost, do more TF's, upgrade...and the entire time you're guaranteed a specific piece you may need so long as you do the right TF. This is distinctly unlike mass raiding as done in other games where there's only a chance that the thing you need will be *dropped*, and even then some jerk could snatch it from your grasp at the last second.
Anyways...as to the contents of the article I can only say one thing. It was confirmed that we're not getting the upper tiers of the Alpha Slot until i20. NOTHING in this article contradicts that. WW states that more of the system can be doled out as needed to keep the stream for running dry. This does not necessarily contradict the Alpha Slot message as it could easily refer to Other Incarnate slots being released over time.
Lateral expansion instead of linear. Instead of just giving us more of what we already have, give us something different. Instead of doling out the last two tiers of the Alpha Slot, they could hand us Judgement to play with next month, with the first couple abilities of that available.
This could be the entire reason behind the Mass Secrecy of i20, they're testing EVERYTHING that's been completed of the Incarnate system to make sure that there aren't a ton of bugs related to the other powers. The idea isn't to just expand what we already have until the next issue, the idea is to introduce other incarnate slots with basic capacity between issues so that the issues can focus more on boosting the capabilities that we already have access to.
My guess? They detailed a bit of info on Judgement on the GR website because they already know that this is something that will likely be released either just before or just after the winter event, because they know that i20 will take MUCH longer to debug than previously expected and therefore want us to know that there's more than just per-power spare enhancement slots coming down the line. The reveal of the Judgement slot being an AoE attack power with in-game info for stuff like Ion Radial Judgement claiming it to have near-NUKE damage...well we now know that's not just a placeholder or old info that is no longer applicable to the current build of the Incarnate system.
I know my Crab will enjoy having yet another AoE power, and Ion looks to be a chain-type which given the mechanics behind the Chain powers in Elec Control means that it'll be End-light as well due to the uncertain and unpredictable nature of its AoE effects.
In all, actually more informative than many of you are making this out to be by focusing on specific details rather than looking at the more broad potential. An old saying comes to mind about not being able to see the majesty of the forest for all the trees cluttering the area....
The "targerted" drops are one of the best thing about the Incarnate system - I think it's awesome the way you can plan exactly what you need to do to get the stuff, and also the way that it ties into the lore, with the components dropping only on a suitable TF.

Very insightful commentary by the Post:
Post: Aside from the two officially announced auras (Snow and Fireflies), and the Imperial Defense Force costume set, are there going to be any other new graphics/costume pieces/etc. introduced in the upcoming free expansion? The quantity of costume options introduced with Going Rogue (the most recent paid expansion) is lackluster compared to the near-doubling of options that the first paid expansion, City of Villains, introduced.
Bianco: City of Villains introduced some pretty cool costumes sets, but Going Rogue introduced some costume features that CoV never did such as tintable costume pieces, Ultra-Mode enhanced sets (REAL shiny mirrored armor), enhanced details, combat auras, and customizable weapons (which arent really costumes, but they can match). We also gave the players access to the Resistance Costume and Loyalist Costume sets and the Alpha and Omega costumes.
I have to agree and hope we can see some really cool adds and soon. The recent Booster packs have not offered anything great and GR had some cool pieces but not many that are superhero-like. I hope i20 has some cool stuff.

Are we gonna get any new incarnite type powers as well ? i want to do that lightning ground pound thing the statesman does !!
Seeing as how marketing would probably string her up by her coat tails if she revealed any new features they are working on for future issues, that interview surprised anyone.?
Really? Have you not been paying attention to the marketing style of NCSoft/PS? They sure as hell would not reveal anything in an interview till it's good and near ready to be put into closed beta. EDIT: Some of the people on these forums are acting like this is their first time reading or posting on these forums. Sheesh. |

Chasing the graphic treadmill is a losing prospect, and I'm glad CoX isn't doing it.
So, who else read the headline and immediately thought, "Ray, when someone asks you if you are a god, you say YES!"
I was wondering about that but everything seems to point to the fact that they are going to stay with the same engine, especially, at least to me, with the 9 layoffs that occurred. Guess I'm a little nervous about the layoffs, hoping its not a foreboding of something negative in the future, I just play this game too much to have it go away, well, ok, at least hang on for another 10 years :-)

Hear hear..bully I say, bully (imagine monacle and british accent). I agree, definitely would rather see it be something you earn vs. buy..all the more worthwhile and fitting for end-game hi-end players.
Elitism is alive and well in this game; its characterised by those who can afford to slot a powers-list chock-full of 500 million-Inf recipes and those who cannot. Luckily purple merits mitigate this somewhat.... but only somewhat.
I don't want the Incarnate stuff sellable on the market, nor would it make sense for it to do so since it would be.... completely unattainable to many players. If purple recipes are selling for 300 million plus these days, what do you think those would go for....? But that is even to the side: people who want to be Incarnate can get their hands dirty AND EARN IT THE HARD WAY. Do you really, really think States and Recluse bought their way into the Well of Furies' abilities? What a ridiculous idea. Nor did they earn it like we'll have to, but my point is that becoming Incarnate is NOT a financial transaction, NOR SHOULD IT BE. At least it better not be, that would be incredibly stupid from a lore standpoint. *gets off soap-box* |

You're just lucky I don't have Castle smite you. Don't think he won't do it, either. Two years ago I had a scuffle with a poster named PeterV and I asked Castle to smite him. If it wasn't for the fact his aim was really off that week... but I digress.
