Help Elect the Leader of the Legion of Super-Heroes

DC Comics is letting readers vote for the new leader of the Legion of Super-Heroes (which used to be a big tradition in the past).

They've set up a website for people to cast their votes.

It's kinda fun that we get a say in who leads the team. And the writer, Paul Levitz, has to figure out how to make it work, which can sometimes turn into a cool story he wouldn't have thought of otherwise.

So if you're interesting, head on over and vote.

And Long Live the Legion!

EDIT: DC has a post about this election on their blog.

Eh?? When did they relaunch the Legion?? I was a huge legion fan in the 90's, right after the Zero hour relaunch, (with newer names, and new guys like that Flash Girl XS, was her name? ect) then they ended.. relaunched... as kind of jerky kids IIRC, but it got better... then, they ended... right? Now this? Are they new and different then before again??

Bah... I love the Legion but they make it hard to keep up.... heh.

I've been following the new series... it's essentially the Pre-Crisis version of the team, all grown up as shown in some recent JLA/Superman stories and the Legion of Three Worlds mini. The United Planets are recovering from widespread xenophobia on Earth, formerly spurred on by Nemesis Kid (now calling himself Earth Man). Though I do believe they added Gates from the post-Zero Hour version of the team to the lineup...

Clearly lex Luther is the man to run the Legion.

Being an old school Legion fan, I cast my vote for Cosmic Boy.

Confirmed altaholic with 70+ alts in coh and cov...yes i know thats alot! Playing coh since beta test phase.

I voted for Phantom Girl. I think she's the longest serving member who hasn't been the leader yet.

Voted for Colossal Boy, myself. Figure we need an Earth-born Legionnaire to help appease the cranky terrans, and he's got loads of experience with the team.

And he's not Earth-Man.

My backup choices were either Brainy, Cos or Garth.

Yup, Gates stuck around to repair the image of this Legion and to provide some non-mammalian perspective while his Legion is out there hoping through the multiverse (since that Legion's universe was destroyed). And the threeboot guys have been relegated to "ignore" and watching over Superboy-Prime.

I still love the Legion, always have. But i almost wish theyd gone through with another reboot. Almost.

Voted Cosmic Boy, because you can never trust a Durlan!

I voted for Brainiac 5, 'cause of his mad people skillz (yeah, he makes people angry!)

Seriously, I've been a LSH fan for years and missed this rebooting. Thanks for the heads-up, H4L!

well... technically it wasn't really much of a reboot. it's brought back the original Legion, but with rewrites and ignoring everything that happened between Crisis and Zero Hour...

okay, it's a reboot.

Had to go with Brainiac 5.

Yeah, there's a new Legion of Super-Heroes book and they also restarted Adventure Comics which currently has Legion stories in it (and a good back-up with The Atom). It features the pre-Zero Hour Legion from before you started to read them. Gates and XS are currently around though XS will probably be seen more in the Flash-related stories than with the Legion.

If you're interested in learning more about this new/old Legion, here's some trades you might want to check out:

The Lightning Saga
Superman and the Legion of Super-Heroes
Legion of Three Worlds (Don't be scared about it being part of the Final Crisis event... it really wasn't)

After that, they tried to restart the Legion as a back-up in the new Adventure Comics series, but it only lasted a couple issues before there was a creative team shift. As luck would have it, DC's president and former Legion writer Paul Levitz stepped down to become a writer again. So he picked it up and started this new Legion series while also writing Legion stories in Adventure comics.

I'm really enjoying the Legion stories right now. I think it's a good time to be a Legion fan.

Bah... this election is undemocratic. where is our spot for a write in candidate. vote COBRA!!!! *hisssssss*

Actually, Cobra Commander was originally a candidate for this election. Unfortunately, he had to withdraw when rumors surfaced that he had an affair with Lady Jaye. He even held a press conference to announce the end of his campaign and clamed he plans to spend more time with Baroness and his henchmen.

Legion used to be one of my favorites in the mid 70s. I have strong memories of so many issues still in my mind.

Now, who do I choose?

total kick to the gut

This is like having Ra's Al Ghul show up at your birthday party.

I also voted for Phantom Girl, and for the same reason. My vote was NOT cast because she's cute and has huge...leadership skills. I would never be that shallow.

I would and am.

Voted for Wildfire myself. Always did like that cranky, crotchety ball of energy.

Just to clarify, Nemesis Kid and Earth Man are not the same character. Jeckie killed Nemesis Kid back in the 80s.

My apologies, you are absolutely right. I forgot the whole bit about how Earth-Man absorbs the powers of other metas, while Nemesis Kid developed whatever powers he needed to overcome his opponent.

I'm really enjoying the Legion stories right now. I think it's a good time to be a Legion fan.
The recent reboot confused me a bit since i have LoSH on my pull list at the comic shop and don't read most of the other DC mainline titles. (Or at least i tend to avoid the massive crossover, redo the universe, again, events with the exception of 52.) Needless to say the Legion reboot confused me for the first issue or two. Suddenly the comic's characters, setting and history were all different from the last issue i'd purchased with no warning or transition.

The new series is decent enough, and resetting it to mostly be the character roster from the Eighties isn't a bad choice, but a notice or explanation in the comic would've been nice.

Dr. Todt's theme.
i make stuff...
