Worst Brute build?

I'm looking for a couple power sets that are considered the worst for brutes.
I'd like to try and build something worth while out of them.

I'm not looking for help with the build just the perfect horrible pair to play with.

Any thoughts?

hmm, Energy Melee/Stone Armor?

Sooooooo......Sllloooowwwww.

I was going to say energy melee/energy aura, but I think I would rather roll a /energy aura instead of /stone armor. The thought of playing /sa is shuddering, personally.

Words to the wise aren't necessary- it's the stupid ones that need them.

I've heard tell that EM/Fire is a craptastic set, but FA recently got buffed, so that may have helped it a little bit. Maybe EM/EA really is the king of crap these days.

dm/energy aura i had one it was horrible

the one combo i never really like was axe/fire

it was decent dmg but terrible surviveability and the constant redraw of the axe made it suck bad

Energy Melee/Energy Aura

Self damage from ET on a set that only gets +HP from its tier 9. A tier9 that can't be made permanent. Long animations on ET and TF mean more time for EA's pathetic mitigation to crumple. Pathetic AoE output means more incoming attacks which means even more time for EA's weak defense to fail.

Be well, people of CoH.

don't forget to slot heavily with Craptactics: chance for suck

... silence the background hum of EM, color both sets dark with black/dark red....

It'd LOOK awesome.

Personally, I've got a 40 EM/Inv brute, I solo most equal-level elite bosses, sometimes without popping any inspirations, DP or Unstoppable (I usually have to be lucky and/or have a crappy EB to fight), AND I'd respec'd stupidly, leaving out my second low level EM attack for boxing (so I could get tough and weave sooner...and then never got around to getting them).

EM is an excellent single-target set, I think, since it can let you stunlock an enemy. And with my secondary choice I can just gather 20+ rikti monkeys and just set Whirling Hands on autofire while I eat a sandwich (even though my set choice has 0 protection from Psi).

I don't think its the BEST set, necessarily, but its not a bad set. It looks good, usually works well, and...I *do* like Energy Transfer.

/stone is slow as hell but still pretty sturdy so while it may take forever to kill stuff, you will be difficult to kill as well..... post granite that is.

/Dark has way too much potential to fall under worst build category, same with WP, shield, and invuln.

/SR goes like this. Crap, crap, crap, hey I didnt die in that mish, onto Godmode. So while leveling it may suck, the end result can be quite good.

/Fire kinda squishie but stuff dies fast and with decent slotting can get some strong defensive numbers as well.

So that really that only leaves Energy aura and Elec Armor. The recent buff with Energize makes Elec usefull and with enough cash can be made pretty close to perma. So what that leaves us with is the pretty set of Energy Aura. By far the least popular armor for brutes.

Now that we have a secondary, we need a primary that does not mesh with it very well.

All sets have thier pros and cons. But I think Billz is right. One of the worst combos would be EM/Energy. The synergy is just not there. All other sets have decent mitigation or superior damge. EM has crap for group mitigation and only slightly better single target mitigation. Toss in the self damage on the big damage attack and you have a winner... or loser depending on how you are looking at it.

Take all 4 Presence Powers and take all 4 leadership powers to a Stone/Energy build and and make sure to skip any status effect protection powers. :'(

Without looking at the rest of the thread, I'd say:

Energy Melee / Fire Armor .... squishy and mostly slow and single target-oriented.

Energy Melee / Stone Armor .... just ponderously slow.

Dual Blades / Dark Armor .... mainly because the Oppressive Gloom might make guys wander out of your ideal blade setup. But it might not be too bad.

Weird. I really love mine. My Defense numbers are adequate (27% to 30% vs most types other than psi) and things don't see me other than the spawn I'm attacking. Yet with the new Fury changes, I still keep at least 50% Fury even when only 3 guys are attacking me. Siphon Life keeps me standing in conjunction with my defenses.

Anyway, I like DM/EA just fine. I think DM or Stone Melee are the best sets to combine with EA.

If you skip OG and just run DS and CoF then you'd probably be able to keep them in your range and line up just fine.

Skipping OG means I've skipped the main reason I want to play Dark Armor anyway.

This is why I'm afraid of trying that Claws/DA brute. I have an SS/WP. He's level 34. He has tough and weave. He dies. All. The. Time.

I know the problem isn't the sets. The problem is me. I just can't brute!

But I will learn. Oh will I learn. And my claws/DA will rip faces off of anything he pleases.

Actually, he will. You'll be pleasantly surprised.

The worst has to be Stone/Dark Armor: It will have end issues that will make you cry for your entire career. Best of luck.

I'm playing one of those right now. He's 18. Sure, he has a significant amount of downtime but he hits like a train and is extremely hard to kill.
