Best Dom pet?

Broken Voltage

I was wondering which Dom AT had the best pet? Would that be Gravity or Fire? I heard they were both amazing pets, if so, which would be the best secondary for a soloing Dom?

Thanks!

Never played a fire dom, but I gotta say I love Singularity to bits. What squishy WOULDN'T want a nice repulsion field that only costs endurance once when it's turned on?

I'm not too impressed by pets but I have to admit Stoney is amazing. That little guy can tank and his 2 big hitters have built in controls, his hammer causes knockdown and KO Blow can hold.

I have a keybind set up so that if I see Stoney running off to someplace he shouldn't be I can just despawn him. With Stoney there is a small chance he'll use Hurl Boulder (great control power) knocking an enemy back into another mob and then run up and punch someone in the face. I'm in charge, I decide who gets aggroed and when.

I rarely find that additional mitigation is something my doms require. So on that note I personally find Singy to be nice looking and that's about it.

I like imps because they excel at a singular focus that I desire; additional damage.
I like stoney because he's nearly unstoppable, aggressive, and does good damage

If there was a choice of phantom army they would be my vote.

While not quite a 'pet' I also really like carrion creepers.

Carrion Creepers are my Fav along with Siny, Ex-Poo Man, I like all of the pets really except for Jack.

Alos I can't give you a good secondary to be honest every dom secondary is amazing. Most go for dmg though so maybe fire or elec? Energy is good dmg as well.

For us to better answer you questions...what do you want your dom to do? What fighting style or control set appeals to you the most?

The best secondary is /fire. It kills way faster than anything else. Most of the primaries provide ample mitigation while solo'ing so additional control from your secondary is usually unnecessary once your primary is mature.

I look at it this way: while solo'ing I rarely if ever need the extra stuns that a secondary like /nrg offers, so I prefer the much much great damage that /fire provides. No matter what I do I can never make any of the other secondaries do nearly as much damage as /fire. I can also never make /fire as mitigative (ignoring the fact that death is the ultimate mitigation) as any of the other secondaries, but I have an entire primary that is designed to reduce and even negate my need for /fire to perform that role.

So far I am not all that impressed with the gremlins. They seem to be just as squishy as imps but you only get 2. In an 8 man group they seem to die every other spawn. Dont know if they are getting too much agro or just aoes that are tearing them up.

Back when there was a bug where pets would fight each other, Singy came out on top as the most durable - he was always the last one standing. I'd have to go in this order of durability/damage:

1. Singularity
2. Stone Pet
3. Fire Imps
4. Plant Pet
5. Jack Frost
6. Electric Gremlins

The electric gremlins love to over aggro everything, then die a blaster-style death. Jack Frost is still frail as anything and frequently gets stuck in sword animations.

Fly Trap was meh for me before the pet change but now he's actually impressive. He can last for more than 3 seconds and actually does ok dmg and keeps the baddies busy thanks to his recent buff...I still think Jack needs some lovin'...I mean why is he Resistance based? I think Ice should always be def.

I think Jack Frost is pretty underrated. He may be frail but he does a decent amount of damage in melee and he doesn't have any attacks that do knockback so he's unlikely to aggro other mobs.

Don't get me wrong he's amazing at times and can put out some series dmg/mitigation esp If I'm fighting certain targets but sometimes he goes down fast than a Tart in Port Oakes. that reminds me let me hop on my Ice Dom it's been a while.

Yeah, he's saved my butt quite a few times by holding aggro from adds for long enough for me to layer some extra mezz.

Having Vengeance and Fallout slotted for recharge means never having to say you're sorry.

I have to say sings are imo the best pets in a wider range of difficulties and situations.

Get singularity and softcap your ranged defense. Then, blast from a distance. You will feel absolutely uber, even as a squishy. Singy is a bad mutha to mobs, knocking them all over and holding them as you blow them away. It's not even fair. However, if your toon likes to play more in melee range, then its usefulness is severely hampered.

I've never used it on a Dom, but I have on a defender and so I'm imagining my defender with more firepower to go with Singy and my heart goes pitterpat and my loins tingle.

Never argue with stupid people. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

I'm going to give a nod to Singularity as well due to

- Reliable behavior. Singy stays by your side and does NOT go run after the mob it kbs. No other Dom pets are even competitive to Singy in this regard.
- Toughness. It has rather strong resists for a pet - 50% to s/l/f/c/e/n and 100% to psi/toxic and can't be mezzed.
- Stacking mezzes.

Maybe it doesn't win for you if you're looking for damage for a pet. That may be more of an issue for Controllers, but for Doms, not so much.

I like my pets to do damage, so never liked singy, but I can see why others do.

On the plant I will add that the ability to slot achilees heel -res proc is very cool.

I can be found, outside of paragon city here.
Thank you everyone at Paragon and on Virtue. When the lights go out in November, you'll find me on Razor Bunny.

I hope you mean on your controller or else my defenders are missing something.

Singy does decent dmg actually it's just slow DOT. Much like Jack Frost...cept a bit slower.

no offense Gavin if you're looking for dmg then Gravity shouldn't be a first choice anyway even though gravity can put out some nice ST.

Is singly currently plagued by the pet bug that makes him prefer melee range despite having no melee attacks (see phantasm)?

Ideally this bug will eventually be sorted out...hopefully. In the mean time it plays a factor in my pet centric preferences.

Nah, he usually stays at range unless...

1.They try to crowd on him
2.They get to you
3.He takes a lot of dmg
4.Or sometimes if you take a lot of dmg

Still, to this day I can't figure out his AI but it's almost as if he knows that your are in trouble...well...most of the time. When 1-4 happens he will immediately swoop in and Repel them all back at the same time. Usually this will remove aggro from you and piss off the mobs as they constantly try to attack him with melee attacks in vain.

Mmmmm... I've experienced with all of them. I think I would rank:

1. Gremlins
2. Stoney
3. Jack Frost
4. Singy (damage is just too low)
5. Fly Trap
6. Imps

I must be the only person here who likes Gremlins the best and I think it has a lot to do with electricity set as a whole and that I am /Earth so having two pets that are aggressive with some controls and having more base HP than I have is a good thing!

I find Fly Trap the coolest looking pet but it is very fragile.

Stoney is a good mix of "durability" and "damage". Jack Frost has good damage but I find him quite slow sometimes and he melts fast if he gets hit anything other than ice damage.

What's left is to normalize all Assassin Strikes and improve Stalker's old sets (Claw, MA and EM)! You don't need to bring back the missing PbAoE attack. You just need to make the existing ones better! For example, make Slice a WIDER and LONGER cone.
