So, Chuck?
It's just my opinion of course, but it seems to me that "Chuck" may have run it's course.
Unlike previous seasons, the first two episodes of this season just aren't holding my interest. I mean, come on, a cameo appearance by Olivia Munn (that was Olivia Munn wasn't it?)? A rebuilt (and *purposely* over the top) Buy More? Chuck's back to lying about being a spy to Ellie...geez guy, grow a pair already. (and why in the world would she believe him? Hey, I'm disappearing for days at a time, and so is my spy girlfriend, but no I'm not a spy anymore, trust me). Anyway, I'll keep watching (heck I suffered through the later seasons of Heroes too), but overall I'd be surprised if Chuck lasts much longer unless things really pick up soon. (I'm kind of expecting the whole "shuffle it's timeslot until it quietly dies" to start soon). |
LOCAL MAN! The most famous hero of all. There are more newspaper stories about me than anyone else. "Local Man wins Medal of Honor." "Local Man opens Animal Shelter." "Local Man Charged with..." (Um, forget about that one.)

I'm going to agree there seems to be a dip in the show this year as well. The thing that was always good about Chuck is they allowed the stories to move forward. Chuck was a bumbling reluctant spy who had a thing for Sarah but was unreciprocated, then he started to get the hang of the spy work and Sarah started noticing him, then he got the intersect 2.0 that turned him into super spy and he and Sarah finally started a healthy relationship. This season they seem to be falling back on issues that have already "supposedly" been dealt with. I'm far from giving up on the show, but I do admit, I'm not feeling the love as much.
Oh and the General as the store manager and the rebuilt Buy More.........stupid. She plays much better from a video screen.

Which it appears she's going back to, by putting Morgan in charge. But since Big Mike is still in the credits I would expect Morgan to go get Big Mike to be manager so Morgan can go back to be "one of the guys".
Yes, I'm sensing the C-plot this season is to track down Mom so she can be with Elle for the birth, like tracking down Dad for the wedding.
Awesome is a terrible liar so Chuck has to lie to him. Elle is the over protective big sister/faux Mom to Chuck and now that she's preggers, Chuck doesn't want to worry her anymore than necessary. Not every spy is Michael Weston.
Anyways lying to loved ones is one of the fundamental cornerstones of situational comedy and face it, Chuck is an Action/Comedy.

My main beef is that I really didn't want them to go down the "search for the mother" routine because I got all the mother angst I wanted after watching Alias.
My other beef is that they really should show some grief or issues relating to the death of Chuck's father. Not even a burial scene or something. After all those years to lose him to a insane act of violence. I don't know. We'll see how the show goes.
When I graduated from college I actually applied for a job with the CIA. I wasn't interested in field work, mind you, but I thought a CIA job here in the States might be nice. They were very assertive about not telling anyone you were applying there. Your spouse was acceptable and maybe, maybe your parents and children. Beyond that...
So I'm okay with the whole lying to Ellie and Devon bit even if they're doing it for different reasons and playing it for comic effect.
I loved the Lou Ferrigno cameo. Glad to see they did more with him than they did with Dolph Lundgren. On the other hand, I'm a bit worried that they're doing a lot of stunt casting; Linda Hamilton, Dolph Lundgren, Lou Ferrigno, Karolina Kurkova, Olivia Munn, Isaiah Mustafa, Steve Austin, Nicole Richie. Stunt casting is often a sign that they know the show is weak but rather than fix the problems they cast cameos of people they hope the audience will tune in to see.
Some of the problems with these first two episodes have stemmed from trying to get things back to normal after the last season finale. Hopefully with the return of Jeffster and the other Buy More employees that will happen and we can move on.

Hilarious.
To be fair, Nicole Richie and Steve Austin are returning characters. Steve was on last year and I can't recall what season it was that Richie was on.
Catfight between Sarah and Evil Spy? Awesome. And it furthers the show's running gag of trying to get Sarah into her skimpies in every episode. To be fair there, they also offer Awesome up for the ladies, since he tends to be shirtless a lot.
i think chuck suffers a bit from being on the whisker of cancellation at any given point in time. it's not the only show in that boat, but it never tends to help the writers much.
i liked the buy more/cia gag, the general being pulled out of a meeting for her better business bureau award, and morgan's attempts to dirty the store up during his chat with her. could have had at least one female agent just shut him down with, say, an 11 foot pole.
i don't expect mind blowing mystery, but, it does seem to be recentering back to a near beginning again with jeffster and co back. i find myself surprised i missed jeffster as much as i did. ;p
Kittens give Morbo gas.
I've enjoyed the first two episodes. To this day I can barely watch an episode from the First season, but the second and third seasons really grew on me.
The show's focus changing is one of the best things about it. The status quo changes and the characters and plot progress. I like Chuck's progression from reluctant hero to spy, mostly because I enjoy capable main characters. Though, his abilities are likely to plateau and the focus has to shift to from Chuck's professional development to something else. Also a plus was the show's refusal to milk the will they/won't they for a considerable amount of time.
At the rate of progression, assuming the writers don't drag their feet, I do see Chuck finding a nice point to end at this season or the next.

In addition to some of the names you listed: Scott Bakula from Quantum Leap, Carl Lumbly from Alias/Justice League Brian Thompson from X-Files, Bruce Boxleitner from Babylon 5, Jordana Brewster, Christopher Lloyd, Michael Clarke Duncan, Dominic Monaghan, etc, etc.
though the show has been "on the bubble" every year, I think it's more of a device to get "geek cred", than it is stunt-casting.
Thank you, Champion.
Dug it - it was a fun ep.
They should have made old spice man say ONE phrase
"I'm the spy you wish your spy could smell like"
or simply
"Hello Ladies"
I've enjoyed both episodes so far.
While I haven't really been dissappointed with an episode of Chuck, to be fair, not all where OMG!
To me, Chuck tends to stay really good with moments of awesome!
Now obviously we see Sarah seem to freak out on a comment, that I don't think Chuck meant to be serious. Likely to cause some fears in her, is my guess.

Anyone else trip out that they got Bronson Pinchot (Balki) on the show for a second...and that's it?
Well, I'm loving it still
I nearly choked when I realised it was the Man Your Man Could Smell Like in the Buy More, and the Star Wars moment with Jeffster and Morgan, I had a mouthfull of sandwich nearly leave my mouth at high speed from laughing so hard!!
Bring on more Chuck, I say

Also, love that the old spice guy was in it.
"Look at your spy, now back to me, now back to your spy, now back to me. Sadly, he isn't me. But with Buymore brand Oldspice, he could smell like he's me. Back to your spy, now back to me. Where are you? The Buymore Music Section with the man your spy could smell like. Look down at your hand, back to me. What is it? A CD, with the music of that band you love. Back at your hand, back to me. Look again! The CD is now diamonds! Anything is possible at the Buymore. I'm on a horse."
Enjoying the new season so far. My only request: More Casey. Casey rules. They better not go softening him up now that he's trying to do the dad thing.
Oh, and the return of Jeffster was just pure gold. "Is there room in that womb for two?" Even my wife did a spit-take there. Awesome.
