Emperor Cole at the end of the Power Loyalist Arc...

To the OP, you need to remember that as nice as those words were: Marcus Cole, in any incarnation, seems very very good at speeches on the spot. I'm sure he could have convinced you with a speech that killing your own family would be for the good of Praetoria.
Also: You went Powers Route, you're a villain, plain and simple.
To the one wishing they could be a StormTrooper, not the best idea: Your inherent power would be "Imperial Stormtrooper Marksmanship Academy Graduation" which would be a permanent -100000% ToHit and Accuracy debuff to self and all teammates.
This is kind of a small problem with Praetoria, the devs wanted to see it all in shades of Grey, but everyone of significant power in the established government (Manchard the exception) is pretty ruthless and evil (The Praetors, Cole, Etc.), not helped when they've explicitly established that the old Praet arcs ARE Still canon, this is just moving along on the timescale with the Praetorians attempting ANOTHER invasion of our world.
Oh, and there's the whole "brainwash the citizens" thing.

I have no interest in ruling the world - or taking over other worlds - or mass murder, slavery, torture, brainwashing, propaganda and repression

Mother and her Seers constantly keep watch to ensure our safety should one such self-seeking individual wish to cause us harm. They are not restrictive or brainwashing; rather, theirs is a responsibility to ensure the well-being of all of Praetoria.
Our great Emperor Cole is no murderer or propagandist. His just acts in the past have served only to strike down those who would cause us destruction; the Hamidon and its abominations among them. In that same way, he is preparing to retaliate against the unprovoked attacks from Primal Earth, and he will not cease until the threat is put to rest.
All hail Emperor Cole!
We in Praetoria seek only to further the betterment of the public, my dear. Do you know why we have such things as prisons and rehabilitation facilities? It is because the public will eventually turn on itself given the chance. When a man decides that his personal needs or desires outweigh those of his neighbors, he is heading down a dangerous path of mistakes and misguided effort.

I think the shades of gray come along the lines that everyone of significant power outside the established government is pretty ruthless and evil, too. Both sides have exceptions but in large number of cases, it's the devil you know versus the devil you don't.

I think it's a bit natural to side with the Resistance for Vet players purely because we've already dealt with Tyrant and so forth in the past.
Trying to make some of us see them as ANY level of good is next to impossible. Even more so for people who followed the comic book, and again, the Devs did say the old Praet arcs are still canon.

He saved us from the Hamidon. You think that was a hoax?
There is propaganda at play here, but it's clear that I'm not the one with the wool over my eyes.
"The people have always some champion whom they set over them and nurse into greatness. This and no other is the root from which a tyrant springs; when he first appears above ground he is a protector...
At first, in the early days of his power, he is full of smiles, and he salutes every one whom he meets;—he to be called a tyrant, who is making promises in public and also in private! liberating debtors, and distributing land to the people and his followers, and wanting to be so kind and good to every one! And if any of them are suspected by him of having notions of freedom, and of resistance to his authority, he will have a good pretext for destroying them by placing them at the mercy of the enemy; and for all these reasons the tyrant must be always getting up a war.
And the tyrant, if he means to rule, must get rid of them; he cannot stop while he has a friend or an enemy who is good for anything."

Even in your primitive, barbaric Primal Earth, do you not elect your leaders to govern those who elected them? To select from their ranks a champion to place into a position of greatness? This behavior is, by your own admission, fostering tyranny, though I presume you will decide in disagreement.
Though as I observe your world from my objective vantage point, I see your presidents and prime ministers acting on behalf of only a fraction of the people they pretend to serve. Theirs is an agendum of political merit; to use their influence as provided by their election to impose petty laws on the population in total, all too often to be met with bitter opposition and to nonetheless proceed in their endeavors.
Is this not tyrannical, quarrelsome and otherwise disruptive to the well-being of the people as a whole? It seems to me that your own world cannot even come to agreement on such simple issues, yet you feel the entitlement to point to ours and claim our Emperor to be a tyrant.
This prejudice is inherent in your kind, and you have actively struck out against us in a form of misplaced vengeance for the perceived wrongs of the people of our world. You are beasts, the lot of you, and fitting of the Primal name.
Emperor Cole's victory over your world will be most majestic indeed.
For Praetoria!
