Sexism (not as bas as it sounds, promise)

I've noticed an actual sexist trend with my characters.

My melee characters are mostly male while my ranged are mostly female.

There are a few exceptions, but the trend is quite apparent.

Be well, people of CoH.

I'm male, I will only ever play male characters.

This. In most MMOs I have played, males run like they have a stick up their posterior. In many cases, I also dislike the hunched, bulky look of male toons.

I'm halfway on that trend. My male characters are inevitably melee, but I've females of every AT.

It's a habbit. Not a good one or a bad one. Just a habbit.

On a related tangent, size of your toons?

I prefer small to medium height, athletic or thin, and rarely do I max out the breast slider. I do not like the bulky toons for the most part, and it baffles me the number of players that play the extreme of bulky large or bulky small predominatly. What ever they like I guess.

Is a habbit the plural of a hobbit?

I'm a male for whatever it's worth.

12 Female characters (7 Heroes, 5 Villains)
7 Male Characters (5 Heroes, 2 Villains)

It's mostly concept for me. Either I have a concept that tends more towards female or I come up with a good name that lends itself more towards being female.

95% of my characters are female (the one that isn't is a misogynist werewolf, don't ask).

Reason: If I am going to stare at a butt for hours on end, I prefer it be female.

Rolling a few more guys again now, though. It honestly comes down to which suits the concept best

And nothing to do with females and spandex. Nope. Especially not Widows >_> *cough*
My concepts are... all of my female characters are amazons. I make tough ladies. That's about as creative as I get story-wise. Roleplaying just isn't for me.

I have many more females than males. Of the 35ish characters I have, 4 are male, highest level of those being 20. I am male.

Females just look better. No, not in the "I'm checking out her butt" way, they just have better style. Also, female characters are underrepresented in games in general, especially kickass ones. Damsels in distress irritate the crap out of me, I want to see some beating the crap out of anyone foolish enough to think grabbing the upper arm is all it takes.

im a male and i have all male toons, more so because it keeps the immersion because i always try to put myself into my toons shoes, and that wouldnt work if it was a female toon (i do this on every game ive ever played)

on the other hand i have a friend that plays nothing but female toons because he likes to look at butt

Yup. 99% of my toon in every game are females. I just don't dig playing the opposite gender, for some reason.

I have an almost 50/50 split. However, my melee people are overwhelmingly male. Ranged people and control-types are female.

There are exceptions to this rule, but not many.

I was very resistant at first to the idea of rolling male characters, since I could identify more closely with the women... being one myself. Once I got past that, I find playing male characters very enjoyable and as an added bonus, it greatly cuts down on the what-are-you-wearing tells.

Every time this comes up, inevitably someone brings up butt-watching or poor run animations. While I enjoy just turning on Walk and enjoying a lovely lady, I don't spend 750 hours doing that. I spend the bulk of that time killing stuff, which entails looking at my enemies, staring at my power trays, looking at my health an endurance bars, watching enemy health, surveying terrain and watching TV. I actually have to keep reminding myself to drop what I'm doing and just look at the character I'm playing. That's actually the primary reason I use Walk - to force myself to stop looking at the game pragmatically, lean back and just enjoy the costume I made. That's for characters of all genders, not just females.

Furthermore, I don't get the running animation complaints. Males may run a bit goofy, but it's still superior to the repugnant, ugly run animation females have. They bob up and down like a cork in the water, they swivel their hips for no reason and they "run with their elbows," so to speak. Every time I play a basic female character, I feel like I'm watching Peg Bundy run. Ugh! If I can, I'll try to always keep a weapon or a shield out, or otherwise constantly fly, because that running animation offends my senses.

As far as sexism goes, I can't testify to any. I used to make mostly male characters, but then Serevus showed me the plethora of amazing female designs he had. I stole a lot of his, then started making more weird concepts, and I've been experimenting with both females and males ever since. I don't know if I have an even split (I wouldn't know), but I know I don't have any preference of any specific kinds of characters requiring a specific gender. My girls range from fighters to rangers to casters to everything inbetween, and my guys are usually esoteric in some way. I have kids, I have spirits... I even have a few animals. It's too across-the-board to make any generalisations about.

However, the one instance where I WILL show sexism, though I don't know if it counts, is with "genderless" concepts. If I'm making a robot, a monster or, as of late, a swamp creature. If I have no gender characteristics to something, I'll use the basic male model as a "default humanoid shape." That doesn't mean I don't have female robots or, at the latest, a bug lady, but when I do design females, it's only if I have some reason for them to both BE and LOOK female.

That's the exact reason I play for too - it's also why I have only one avatar - it's me, but with superpowers - even if the costume creator doesn't give me the right haircut I want

And as for the height question, I'm 5' 5" in real life, but when I made myself that high in the game, I was totally tiny beside the giant NPCs, so I had to exaggerate my height a bit

Definitely have never looked at a characters' butt--only at the mayhem they unleash. I just figured I was an exception since I'm wired somewhat differently.

I base my characters sex on either the name I come up with or the origin idea I come up with. Or I randomly click on a body type, click on random costume, and see if anything clicks.

Although I tend to start out a game with mostly male characters, over time I've developed a group of alts that are about half and half. Some of it is because I created a few characters for my sister, hoping I could talk her into playing. Then again, when she actually did create a couple of characters of her own, one of them was male.

I must admit that while I don't play female characters for the butt thing, I do notice it from time to time. The female model in this game is pretty nice, and the spandex looks good too. In fact, my main female character, a cyborg, has the Tech Wired bottoms, and I would have figured she would look pretty armored and not too "sexy". But the lines of that pattern do seem to nicely highlight her curves back there.

Male here. I have 2 female characters, and one is parked at lvl 2. All others (too many to count) are male.

I made them for concept reasons, mostly. I have no interest in their virtual lady-parts. The one that I actually play is based loosely on Wonder Woman. I wanted to make a version of her that wasn't hyper-sexualized, and just super. I have one revealing costume on her, but it's nothing my girlfriend wouldn't make.

Most of my villains are male, since who do you see more often committing crimes on the news IRL? Males. (Most of my female villains are Widows and another female is going to be redeemed soon.)

My heroes and Praetorians are mixed genderwise.

to TO THE END!
Villains are those who dedicate their lives to causing mayhem. Villians are people from the planet Villia!

I'm male and my characters are mostly, but not exclusively, male. Of my 8 level 50 characters, 7 are male.

I think it's because I find the male characters easier to relate to.

I am a guy, and I roleplay. I refuse to make a female, because the first time I would get hit on, even if it wasn't for nasty nasty, just regular RP, I would be completely grossed out. That's just me. I don't want to play a girl.

One time when I was playing a female character of mine, a guy tried hitting on her and I accidentally managed to lead him on quite a bit without realising it. I guess I'd make a good girl?

It helps that this particular character, having an artificial body, tends to be very unconcerned about these things. The part that she's completely indestructible and strong enough to punch things past the sound barrier helps, too.
