NCsoft sued... again.
Well, as much as I would like to discuss the implications of this, discussions of any game other then City of Heroes/Villains itself has been banned. Such a shame, too, as I would have loved the discussion behind this.
On the other hand, I WOULD like to state that it is perfectly acceptable to discuss non-CoH related gaming news on Paragon Unleashed, the fan forum for CoH/V that includes all the naughty words, gaming news, and partial nudity that one has come to expect from any worthwhile discussion.
It's like nobody is responsible for their own actions any more.
I figured as much. *rolls eyes* - oh well, nevermind.
Aren't we technically talking about the legal action and not the game itself?

The lawsuit points to a particular game only because it has to. The thoughts behind the lawsuit, however, can be applied to any game, and behind MMOs in general, including ours.
Loose --> not tight.
Lose --> Did not win, misplace, cannot find, subtract.
One extra 'o' makes a big difference.
You mean if the subject should bizarrely and for no explicit reason mutate to;
'Have you ever heard of, or imagine, CoH being the reason for said legal action or does the inherant pick up 'n' play casual nature of CoH work in it's defence'.
Well, I couldn't possibly comment. - How very Ironic that this clampdown on forum topics (for the good of all) just happens to coincide with the Praetorian expansion. .o>
*smirks*
I don't have enough faces or palms to /facepalm as much as this requires.
Why is it that is always seems NCSoft gets the most /facepalm worthy lawsuits?

Whether or not the game in question intentionally was designed to exploit addictive behavior, there are broader legal issues at work here, e.g. are click-through EULAs valid in court, and is a legal decision against a gambling casino relevant to the way a game company allegedly conducts its business? Unfortunately, the mods have deleted entire threads for containing violations against the "any videogame (aside from City of Heroes)" rule, so there's a precedent of a different kind set here.
My Idiocy Sensor just blew up. Facepalm cannot describe this.
In the future, MMOs will come with warning labels:
WARNING - GET A LIFE!

Goodbye. Not to the game, but the players. Goodbye. Everyone, remember to have fun. That's all I can say.
I just...I can't...I....I...
*head explodes*
I can't link it but search youtube for "Nostalgia Critic" and "you". That comes close.

Smallwood's gameplay averaged around 11 hours per day during that period. |
Teams are the number one killer of soloists.
So having nothing better to do I actually read through the whole case.
Almost half of the claims were dismissed, and the case is about
Defamation/Libel/Slander,Negligence,Gross Negligence, and Negligent Infliction of Emotional Distress.
I'm fairly certain the defamation charges will be disprove, and all of the negligence charges will be easy enough for NC to disprove.
I've also learned the the EULA is actually a valid contract in several instances.
This is as stupid as sueing McDonald's for making you fat.
Ah the actions of an addict/dealer getting cut off from his fix/supply/cashflow in one fell stroke. Ntm the judge is a moron for not seeing thru the guy's history and intents.
Video games do not contain any addictive substance such as nicotine, and thus those that play video games are solely responsible for how much they play. Simple as that, end of story. This isn't heroin we're talking about, it's video games. Stupid, stupid litigious people. Why are they only in America? They're giving us a bad name.

This time for making their games (in this case Lineage II) too addictive. How dare they.
/facepalm.
